Mark and Daphne MacDonald. We live in Penticton, B.C. , Canada
Daphne purchased this Villa in 2014
Why Daphne chose Sayulita
We fell in love with Sol Blau while staying here as guests with our children. After staying in a number of other vacation rentals in Sayulita we came to realize what a gem this home truly is. Lucky for us it was for sale!
What makes this Villa unique
Sayulita is such a wonderful place and we particularly love the peacefulness and quiet of the north side of town. Sol Blau is in such a great location to enjoy the beach and also be close to the town center. We love the way the home brings the outdoors in and we also love the fantastic kitchen. It is right in the heart of the home and close to the pool where all the action is- it makes for an ideal home for sharing with others.

I really didn’t care for the house. The house needs a lot of work. Everything is old and outdated. Big bug problem, in my bedroom while I was sleeping very uncomfortable. No A/C in the kitchen., where you need it the most. When using the bathroom, you can’t flush the toilet paper down the toilet, was never told that or I would of not rented the home. The maid never changed our sheets or gave us clean towels. My stay was ok, but would never go back.
What an unfortunate response to your stay at Villa Sol Blau. I’m disappointed that with all the lovely features of my home and Sayulita that you failed entirely to appreciate them.
As you mentioned to me, you are “ more of a resort person” and didn’t care for Sayulita or my home. This is good self knowledge for you in the future because staying in a big all inclusive generic hotel is vastly different to staying in a home in a village.
Firstly, nothing in my home is old or outdated. The two refrigerators, the 6 burner gas stove, the Bosch dishwasher, smart TV, etc are NEW. You are factually incorrect.
Secondly, there is not a “ bug problem”. When you choose to vacation in the jungle at the end of rainy season there are going to be mosquitos. This is a fact of life in the tropics. My home is open air in some parts. Closing the doors and windows in your room and switching on our excellent air conditioning is all you need to solve your “ problem”.
There is no A/C in the kitchen as it is open to the pool deck and has large ceiling fans. Being warm is something most people expect in the tropics on a vacation. All the other rooms in the house are completely air conditioned for comfort at night for sleeping. This is clearly described on my listing.
Flushing tissue in the toilets is not commonly done in Mexico. This is a cultural thing and I’m sorry you felt it was an issue. Things in foreign countries are sometimes different then what you are used to at home. That is why most people travel. To experience different cultures and ways of doing things.
Our housekeeper is very accommodating. During your 5 day stay if you had wanted any extra laundry done she would have done it happily for you. With a Spanish speaking person in your group AND our property manager checking in on you regularly helping you rent golf carts and doing other things for you, I’m not sure why you would not have mentioned this? A real shame you did not ask if this was an issue for you. Complaining after the fact is a lose/lose for both of us.
I’m unsure why you would have chosen to focus exclusively on negatives when by all accounts from all the staff there who served you, you appeared to be having a great time. Super disappointing and pretty insulting to the chef who cooked for you, the property manager who went out of his way to help you with things, the housekeeper who would have happily accommodated any request.
I do agree with your assessment that you are indeed a resort person and perhaps travelling to different cultures and countries is not for you. Perhaps though, this is not the fault of the place you visit.
Best place in Sayulita
8 of our closest friends got together for a reunion trip to Sayulita. The house was breathtaking and the staff kept the house in immaculate shape while we went about daily activities. The pool area was our favorite and because if the heat in town during September it was our main hangout. Book this house!
We spent 5 days on the property celebrating my husband's 50th birthday. There were three couples so we even had an unused room. The property was stunning, the photos don't do it justice. Omar, the property manager, will help you with anything you need during your stay and is absolutely wonderful. Daily housekeeping was a welcome surprise. We had Carolina, the chef, come and cook for us one night. In hindsight, I would have scheduled her to come a few more times. The food was AMAZING! We also thoroughly enjoyed a private tequila tasting (Omar helped us schedule) and massages at Nirvanna Spa downtown (indoor, private, air-conditioned rooms). We are already trying to schedule our next visit. Thank you so much.
Beautiful Home! Fabulous Staff! Amazing City!
We had a great time at Villa Sol Blau and Sayulita. The house is great. It looks just like the pictures. Omar the house manager and the other staff great. Omar was always available for questions about the house and quickly resolved a few small issues. We would certainly come back to Villa Sol Blau and Sayulita.
Fantastic home, spectacular views, charming town!
Our mother/daughter group had a wonderful vacation at Villa Sol Blau. Everything was in top condition and very clean. The beauty, luxury and comfort of the property really exceeded our expectations. All of the staff were exceptionally kind, helpful and efficient. We had a idyllic vacation and hope to return soon!
we look forward to seeing you back!
Sayulita is a vibrant community with plenty to do. This home has five levels. The garage is the lowest and a large rooftop deck the top floor. It's also up a fairly steep hill. You better have strong legs! Because of all this, the views are spectacular and the breezes are lovely. The staff was very nice and eager to help.
