Original stones, antique tiles and wooden beams have been preserved adding loads of charms and old world feeling to this apartment hidden in a garden. Entrance on the ground floor with open kitchen fully equipped, a living & dining area with flat screen television, DVD, stereo and sofa bed. On the first floor a spacious bedroom with double bed, several closets, sitting area and bathroom with bathtub.
5 minutes walk from Place des Vosges, Place de la Bastille, St Louis Island, the Picasso and the Carnavalet museums, rue de Rivoli and the Antique shops of the Village St-Paul. Notre-Dame de Paris is also close.
Located in this very desirable neighborhood in the heart of Paris are many restaurants, cafés and bars, traditional bakeries, cheese and wine stores, gorgeous flower shops and the legendary stationary shops of rue du Pont Louis-Philippe. Metro and bus lines all within walking distance take you all over in Paris.
The cozy duplex was pretty much what the pictures showed. The location is fantastic, in the Marais between the St Paul and Bastille stops on the #1 Metro line. Even though it’s on a busy street, the apartment faces a small courtyard and was very quiet.
Our flight arrived early in the morning, and we were able to get into the apartment by midmorning, which helped a lot. Kevin met us there and showed us around. Unfortunately, we neglected to ask him how to work the washing machine and the microwave, neither of which we could figure out. We also assumed that we knew how to use the phone, but it turned out that we could not make calls on it. And while the friend we were expecting to meet said he called us there and left a message, the phone never rang and we had no idea there was a message. At least the wifi worked! I sent two messages via the Home Away app and then two emails to Kevin before I got a response about the phone, and that response was, “I tried to call you and you never answered.” Well, we were out and about doing Paris things, and as it turned out, the phone was out of order and did not work and the phone company was working on the line. The telephone never did work during our 8 days there, which was very frustrating.
The spiral staircase to the bedroom was 16 steps that would not have been bad if all 16 of them had not creaked loudly every time you stepped on them. If you’re part of a couple that goes to bed at the same time, no problem, but if one person goes to bed earlier than then other, the second person cannot get upstairs quietly.
The kitchen was furnished well enough with cooking tools and eating implements; we bought coffee and coffee filters and made our own coffee every morning but didn’t try to do any real cooking. There are drying racks for hand-washed clothes and a portable cart for grocery shopping.
What the apartment really needed (other than a working phone) was a handbook of instructions for the appliances. A list of the available television channels would have been helpful, too. Also, the listing said the apartment is handicapped accessible. It is on the ground floor, but to get into the main door to the courtyard you have to step over a metal lip that’s about 4 inches high. The bathroom is upstairs, up that spiral staircase. So I would not rate it as accessible at all.
We enjoyed our stay there, and as I said, the location is fantastic. Having a quiet and peaceful place to come home to was wonderful.
Sfeervol, schoon appartement. Centraal gelegen.
Bed en bedbank slapen prima.
Fijn dat je even met je stoel buiten in de besloten tuin kan zitten.
Bakker en Monoprix zijn heel dichtbij.
We komen graag terug!
We stayed at this wonderful apartment for 10 days to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. It was a secure and peaceful sanctuary in the middle of Paris. After long days of site-seeing, we really appreciated the large comfortable bed, the soaker tub and shower. It was beautiful to rise in the morning, and open the French windows onto the luxuriant courtyard garden. The apartment is exactly as shown in the pictures provided and is very well equipped. The Marais area provided us with both a sense of medieval history and real modern day Parisian life. The apartment gave us easy access to all major sites. Transportation and a variety of food sources (grocery, wine and produce stores, vendors, restaurants, cafes) were at our doorstep. Our hosts were welcoming, responsible and caring, as well as good communicators. They even kindly arranged a taxi for our departure. We definitely recommend this romantic retreat, and, if the opportunity arose, we would book it again ourselves.
Just returned from a fabulous week in Paris thanks to this great little apartment in the Marais district. Perfect location for exploring Paris with 3 nearby Metro stations nearby. The apartment was exactly as advertised with a well stocked kitchen, excellent internet service and a very modern bathroom. Potential renters do need to know that the stairs to the bedroom are steep which can be seen in the pictures. Rita was a fantastic host, very helpful with directions and restaurant recommendations. Great neighborhood to walk and explore especially on Sunday when most of Paris is closed. I will definitely stay here again on my next trip to Paris!!
We stayed 9 nights in the apartment in May 2013. It is everything the description on the website says and very comfortable. The location is fantastic, with a bus stop right outside the door, and a choice of stations and restaurants / cafes within easy reach. Even though the apartment is right on Rue Saint Antoine, it is reached via a security door and passage from the street and a beautiful garden courtyard. From the apartment, you cannot hear any street noise. The photo on the website is from the security door on the Rue Saint Antoine and the Place des Vosges is really that close!
Rita and Gerard, the owners, are very good with their communication via email, with ample directions on how to reach the apartment and local restaurant recommendations. Gerard met us personally on our arrival in the early morning from the airport, showed us around the apartment, and gave us a nice bottle of Bordeaux to enjoy during our stay.
We found we could get to the apartment from CDG airport on the RER and Metro with two large suitcases without using any stairs, just use RER B to Chatelet and then Metro to Saint Paul, and take the escalator up to street level and walk about 300 metres, so no need to take a taxi from CDG, even with luggage.
There is one caution. The spiral staircase to the bedroom and bathroom, which is clearly visible in the photos, is a bit narrow, so if you have any issues with climbing stairs, then this apartment is probably not for you.
I will be recommending this apartment to my friends and would definitely stay there again next time we go to Paris.
My husband and I knew we wanted to stay in Le Marais for our trip to Paris after many recommendations from friends about how laid back and fun the area is. I did some digging on HomeAway and found this apartment and promptly emailed the owners. We absolutely loved staying here and felt completely at home while on our trip abroad. While only in Paris for a short while (4 days), we were so close to a few major trains that we never had to take a taxi to get to any of our destinations. The neighborhood is great for strolling, eating, shopping and more and we couldn't be more pleased with our accommodations. Rita provided food recommendations and transit tips to/from the airport (also easily accessible via train) that were very helpful. Bottom line, I couldn't recommend this cozy apartment any more and would absolutely go back.
