About Alan and Molly

We (Molly, Alan and 2 daughters) have been renting properties for over ten years and love providing you a home away from home that gives you a way to spread out and have your own kitchen and privacy. We are available for any help or questions you might have throughout your stay.

Alan and Molly purchased this house in 2002

Why Alan and Molly chose Philadelphia

The carriage house is over 100 years old and has just recently been completely renovated. It sits behind our house with it's own private parking and offers privacy. The upgrades we put in are all high end and we know you won't be disappointed upon arrival. The kitchen is stocked with everything we could think of, but if you find something missing, just let us know and we will bring it to you.

What makes this house unique

High end carriage house with private parking and side yard if you just want to sit out and get some sun. The area is a great central location to many places of interest in the Philadelphia area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My wife and I have nothing but positive things to say about our stay in Alan's Carriage House. He and his family were very accommodating, and made us feel extremely welcome staying in a private space on their property. There was a fresh container of milk and orange juice in the (brand new) fridge for us, they answered all the questions we had about the neighborhood and the rental, and gave us our privacy without us needing to ask for it. Second, the physical space and amenities far exceeded our expectations. From the brand new flat screen TV with FIOS cable and wireless internet, to the cleanliness of the bedroom, the nice linens and comfortable mattress, everything was perfect for us and our 3 year old son. I literally have no complaints. I was in town for the Philly Triathlon and will likely rent the same exact space (assuming it's available) for the Philly Marathon. This is easily the nicest neighborhood in Philadelphia, also. Very kid friendly, and close to Fairmount Park, the Zoo, Smith memorial Playground, etc. All in all this was a fantastic experience for us, one that we would easily do all over again.

Old and musty

  • 2 of 5

The picture of the property seems to indicate that even though this property is 100 years old, it is remodeled and may not be bad. The kitchen has new appliances and looks remodeled. The ground floor (kitchen and living area) had a musty smell when we entered the house and I suffered sever allergy through out my 9 night stay. The owner changed the filter and said the season could also be contributing to my allergies. The air quality upstairs (bedroom) was much better. The bed was good.

The furnace was in a basement that was not accessible and so not sure how the air quality was in the basement where the air intake is. Turned off the heating to avoid getting air from the basement, opened windows, but, resulted in a cold home. Was very uncomfortable staying in the cold place with questionable air quality.

Owner's Response: These renters were great guests. I checked in with them within a day of their arrival, and she mentioned she seemed to be allergic to something. I replaced the filter on the furnace as soon as I got home that evening. My wife and I saw them that evening and explained that they had arrived from overseas into one of the worst pollen weeks the Philadelphia area has ever seen. Otherwise, Jay and her husband never mentioned anything to us the rest of their stay. They came and went normally. They even left us a nice bottle of wine. To address a few of the concerns about this house: it has been majorly rebuilt because a massive tree landed on it 4 years ago. A new roof, new heating and air conditioning system, all new plumbing, and all new duct work were installed. The furnace is installed in one of the closets and the air intake is within the home. The filter is changed through a door in the back of the house that guests never see that allows full access to the furnace. Since May 1st, 2015 upon completion of the construction we have had 36 guest stays in our carriage house without anyone complaining of allergy or air quality. Many of our renters have returned, and many of these renters have stayed in the house for weeks to months at a time. It is unfortunate that she had an allergy problem during her stay, and I wish they had come to us during their stay when the issue continued for her as we have other properties in the area that might have been available for them or considered letting them out of their stay early in order to stay somewhere else.

Cozy and Convenient

  • 5 of 5

The Carriage House was perfect for our visit to Philadelphia and reunion with our daughters. Our daughters are both away for college and one of them goes to school outside Philadelphia. This house was perfect because it was conveniently located for visiting Philadelphia as well as our daughter's school along Mainline. The kitchen was exactly what I needed to cook for our family Thanksgiving dinner. While the kitchen is very modern, the rest of the house has the warm charm you'd expect and want from a 100+ year old house. The house was very clean, comfortable and cozy, and the beds were comfortable. The owners were very accommodating and made sure our stay was a great one.

Beautiful home in a beautiful area

  • 5 of 5

This gorgeous home has all the amenities you could think of! Our family of 5 fit comfortably with ample room and storage space. It's wonderfully maintained and feels like a second home. The owners, Alan and Molly, are incredibly helpful and leave you with all the information you could need. The home is located just far enough to not have city traffic but close enough to be in the heart of Philly within minutes. We absolutely adored this house and recommend it to anyone visiting the area!

Carriage house with contemporary furnishings and lots of charm

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay for a short visit to Philadelphia to see the Barnes Collection. My friend lucked out in finding this spot---all I could locate were boring, overpriced hotel rooms. Wonderful tree-lined, quiet neighborhood with beautiful old homes. Carriage house has comfortable downstairs with well-equipped kitchen and modern furnishings, and upstairs with two wonderfully comfy beds and a modern bathroom (with heated towel racks!). Best part was the hospitality of our hosts---they went the extra mile in making us comfortable, recommending a great restaurant close by, and answering our questions. I look forward to staying here again for more than two nights. I highly recommend to families, couples, or even solo travelers looking for something more memorable than a cookie cutter hotel room!

Home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

I almost don't want to write a fabulous review for this lovely home because I don't want it to be booked the next time we try to reserve it!! Can't say enough about this residence, though. The unit itself is well appointed and tastefully done. Everything we needed for an extended stay was right at our finger tips. Equally as inviting for a quick visit. I've stayed there alone as well as with my family. Always felt safe and secure. Always felt completely comfortable. Plus, owners Alan and Molly are simply delightful. Our son attends university in the area so we will be returning over and over while he is in school. Thank you again, Alan and Molly, for your extraordinary hospitality!

Wonderful Stay!!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much Alan and Molly!! We have just finished a 2 month stay at your wonderful property. We enjoyed ourselves so much. The beds are more than comfortable; the kitchen well stocked and beautifully high-end; the location was perfect for us. We appreciated the privacy that you gave us, and yet we knew that we could ask you for whatever we needed. This property is close to 'everyday' type shopping - Target, grocery stores, drug stores etc. It was also very easy for us to go to Center City, as well as to NorthEast Philadelphia where we were working. All in all, this is a gem of a place and we will definitely be back
