Overview

Asheville Area Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

This magical retreat in a wooded setting has picturesque old world charm reminiscent of an Italian Alpine cottage.

Red Gate Cottage, situated on a knoll in Beaverdam Valley, is a vintage log cabin faced with stone. Semiskilled craftsmen working over decades, using stone and antique brick, produced an effect that makes the cottage resemble an ancient stone house in the Alps. The original log walls inside have been restored and preserved.

The luxury renovation by the Architect/Owner features high pine-faced cathedral ceilings throughout. The river stone fireplace is a focal point where people enjoy gathering to watch movies and cable HDTV or to just soak up the relaxing atmosphere. It's a great venue for romantic couples, friends and family groups to celebrate holidays and special occasions.

A hot tub on the stone patio, cradled by massive rock walls, rests under a vine-draped pergola. Beyond, a sunken garden has blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and fresh herbs to use in the gourmet kitchen, and a fire pit for roasting marshmallows.

From the deck, you can enjoy close mountain views as you dine or sit around a blazing fire in the chiminea. Relax in the hammock, and listen to the sounds of the abundant wild life mingling with those of barnyard animals from nearby farms. Flocks of wild turkeys wander by. Guests recently saw a total of eight black bears (including 4 cubs) during their 10-day stay.

Peaceful and quiet, the cottage is within 10 minutes of the center of Asheville with its many world class restaurants, year-round live entertainment, museums, art galleries, theaters, concert halls, and large exhibitions at the Civic Center. Golfing, rafting, fly fishing and horseback riding are among the local attractions, as well as the Grove Park Inn and the famed Biltmore Estate.

Other nearby activities include spas, YMCA, dancing, yoga, live music, great shops, coffee houses, farmers markets, NC University activities, and the Nature Center. Asheville is an antique hunter’s paradise, and the River Arts District (more than 80 artists’ studios) produces some of the best art in America. Shoppers will love the boutiques and specialty shops. A 24-hour grocery store is 5 minutes away, and there are many gourmet shops – the Greenlife Market is not to be missed!

The NC University (UNCA) campus is just minutes away. Black Mountain is within 30 minutes, and Lake Lure, Chimney Rock Park and Wolf Laurel Ski Resort are all within 45 minutes. Mt. Mitchell, highest mountain in the Eastern U.S., is an hour’s drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The scenic Beaverdam Valley meanders past the country club golf course en route to the spectacular high mountains of the Blue Ridge Parkway – where you can enjoy hiking, mountain biking and scenic drives. Yet the fantastic restaurants and night life of Asheville are only a few minutes away.

At Red Gate Cottage, you can enjoy both town and country, truly the best of both worlds. So bring the children, bring the dog. Here, you can get away from it all but still stay in touch by telephone (free long distance) and high speed wireless internet.

Five stars for charming, comfortable Red Gate Cottage in beautiful Asheville, NC!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you, Georgia, for the wonderful weekend we enjoyed in your lovely cottage July 8-11, 2016. We had seven people in our group, including four teen boys. We slept very comfortably with all the bedding you had available (1 queen bed, 1 full size bed, 2 twin or 1 king, and 1 sofa/sofa bed), plus a twin size air mattress we brought so all of the boys could sleep on their own. Every room in the cottage is very nicely decorated, comfortable and low key.....perfect for a relaxing stay. I love how there is at least one window in every room with a nice view of your garden landscaping and attractive outdoor sitting areas. Everything worked great and it was all very cozy.

The cottage is very serene and charming, and just a short ten minute drive to downtown Asheville. Your thoughtfulness and extra touches made our stay all the nicer. We greatly appreciated the delicious oatmeal raisin cookies you baked for our stay and the bottle of wine you left for us. What a warm welcome! The wifi worked well whenever we wanted to use it. The wrap around dining table booth was great for dining together. We also enjoyed the hot tub in back, and all of the wonderful seating you have available outdoors on the wrap around porch and in the yard below. Sunday afternoon my husband and I grabbed three bed pillows and pushed the two large, comfy cushioned front deck chairs and ottoman together for a delightfully peaceful nap under the trees and music of the birds. Sunday evening we made smores using the chimera, which you had stocked with twigs for easy burning, on your front deck. We then returned inside to play a spirited game of Taboo around the dining table.

Asheville is especially beautiful in the summer and the local attractions are all great, more than one weekend will allow. We visited a local park Saturday morning to meet friends living in Asheville, had a delicious lunch at Zen Sushi, biked along the French Broad River in Carrier Park in the evening, and explored the cool food truck stop/craft beer pub/coffee shop & organic market located across the street from Carrier Park on Amboy Road. Sunday we kayaked, paddle boarded & swam at Lure Lake's water park 45 minutes away, and had a delicious lunch in downtown Asheville at a great Korean restaurant on College Street. I am recommending your cottage to several other relatives and hope to visit again with them to explore more of beautiful Asheville together.

All the very best!

Charming Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Red Gate Cottage was the perfect spot to enjoy our visit to the Asheville area. Georgia was a wonderful hostess whose attention to detail was evident from the moment we arrived to find cookies and a bottle of wine! The cottage was super clean and the location close enough to all the places we wanted to see, yet nestled in a peaceful setting. We were especially happy that Georgia welcomed our 2 small dogs and the large gated deck was perfect for relaxing with them. It was so inviting that sometimes we found it hard to leave the cottage to start our day of sightseeing! We will definitely stay at Red Gate Cottage again if we come back to the area.

Loved this place!

  • 5 of 5

My wife, seven-year-old son, one-year-old Labradoodle, and I spent three nights in this very cute cottage and thoroughly enjoyed the place. The house was well furnished and supplied. Everything you need is there.

When we pulled in and parked, we closed the gate. Then our son and dog had the whole property to run and play in with no worries about traffic or other hazard. This was great!

The owner, Georgia, made our planning so easy with her emailed links and personal contacts. We'd stay here again for sure!

Mountain Oasis

  • 5 of 5

We are repeat customers of Georgia and her lovely Red Gate Cottage. It is the perfect little getaway, nestled in the beautiful trees and hills of Asheville. The location is central to downtown Asheville and many of the outlying scenic locales. It is close-enough and yet away from the hustle bustle that you can truly relax, smell the fresh mountain air, sit by the firepit, grill a tasty meal (checkout the Chop Shop Butchery nearby!) or soak in the hot tub. What is not to love? We just left, and I am already missing Asheville and need to schedule a return trip to the Red Cottage!

Peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

The Red Gate Cottage is the perfect getaway - relaxing, very clean, and well equipped. The property feels private, with pretty landscaping and a fenced yard perfect for the dogs. Yet it's an easy drive to downtown Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Highly recommend!

rustic and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We loved everything about this cottage! Georgia thought of every detail to help make the stay a home away from home experience and being able to have our dogs run free in the fenced in yard while we hung out at the fire pit, on the front porch and in the hot tub made it even better. It was the cleanest dog-friendly home we've ever rented. Being minutes from downtown made it super convenient too. And we even got to see a momma bear and her 5 cubs across the street, which was really fun and exciting.

One of our favorite outings while we were visiting was about a 45 minute drive to hike at Triple Falls and then lunch and beers at Sierra Nevada Brewery afterwards (en route to your drive back to the cottage and both the hike and brewery are dog friendly :) And the french restaurant Bouchon (downtown) was our favorite dinner out. I would definitely recommend this cottage and we hope to visit again some day! Thanks Georgia - Your taste in design and attention to detail is truly appreciated.
