Overview

Asheville Area Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

This magical retreat in a wooded setting has picturesque old world charm reminiscent of an Italian Alpine cottage.

Red Gate Cottage, situated on a knoll in Beaverdam Valley, is a vintage log cabin faced with stone. Semiskilled craftsmen working over decades, using stone and antique brick, produced an effect that makes the cottage resemble an ancient stone house in the Alps. The original log walls inside have been restored and preserved.

The luxury renovation by the Architect/Owner features high pine-faced cathedral ceilings throughout. The river stone fireplace is a focal point where people enjoy gathering to watch movies and cable HDTV or to just soak up the relaxing atmosphere. It's a great venue for romantic couples, friends and family groups to celebrate holidays and special occasions.

A hot tub on the stone patio, cradled by massive rock walls, rests under a vine-draped pergola. Beyond, a sunken garden has blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and fresh herbs to use in the gourmet kitchen, and a fire pit for roasting marshmallows.

From the deck, you can enjoy close mountain views as you dine or sit around a blazing fire in the chiminea. Relax in the hammock, and listen to the sounds of the abundant wild life mingling with those of barnyard animals from nearby farms. Flocks of wild turkeys wander by. Guests recently saw a total of eight black bears (including 4 cubs) during their 10-day stay.

Peaceful and quiet, the cottage is within 10 minutes of the center of Asheville with its many world class restaurants, year-round live entertainment, museums, art galleries, theaters, concert halls, and large exhibitions at the Civic Center. Golfing, rafting, fly fishing and horseback riding are among the local attractions, as well as the Grove Park Inn and the famed Biltmore Estate.

Other nearby activities include spas, YMCA, dancing, yoga, live music, great shops, coffee houses, farmers markets, NC University activities, and the Nature Center. Asheville is an antique hunter’s paradise, and the River Arts District (more than 80 artists’ studios) produces some of the best art in America. Shoppers will love the boutiques and specialty shops. A 24-hour grocery store is 5 minutes away, and there are many gourmet shops – the Greenlife Market is not to be missed!

The NC University (UNCA) campus is just minutes away. Black Mountain is within 30 minutes, and Lake Lure, Chimney Rock Park and Wolf Laurel Ski Resort are all within 45 minutes. Mt. Mitchell, highest mountain in the Eastern U.S., is an hour’s drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The scenic Beaverdam Valley meanders past the country club golf course en route to the spectacular high mountains of the Blue Ridge Parkway – where you can enjoy hiking, mountain biking and scenic drives. Yet the fantastic restaurants and night life of Asheville are only a few minutes away.

At Red Gate Cottage, you can enjoy both town and country, truly the best of both worlds. So bring the children, bring the dog. Here, you can get away from it all but still stay in touch by telephone (free long distance) and high speed wireless internet.

Charming and cozy cottage in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

Our family (two adults, two preschoolers, and two labradoodles) comes to Asheville every year and this is our favorite place we've stayed so far. The cottage is charming and cozy and is even nicer than the photos would suggest. Our kids thought it was a real fairy tale cottage! The owner clearly takes pride in the cottage and was a pleasure to work with. When we got delayed getting into Asheville she came by the house and turned on the lights and heat to make certain the house was warm and welcoming for us when we arrived. The yard and outside areas were so fun for our kids and dogs to explore. The house is in a convenient location for exploring downtown Asheville and surrounding areas. The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed. Even though the cottage is pet friendly it's well maintained and free of pet hair (for those of you who may worry about that). There is a hot tub on-site which we didn't use but we inspected it and it looked very clean as well. Our favorite parts of the whole week were spent hanging out in the cottage watching movies, playing in the yard, and roasting s'mores We made wonderful memories and look forward to coming back next year!

Lovely Cottage, Cozy, and Perfect Location!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at Red Gate for 3 nights as a late honeymoon getaway. It was wonderful! Georgia left us a note and some very sweet personal touches (I don't want to spoil it for anyone)! Everything we needed to have a comfortable stay was provided, including extra blankets, movies, games, and kitchen equipment/dishes. My husband really enjoyed playing the piano during our stay. The fireplace was especially nice as we were there over a very cold weekend. Everything was just as described! I would love to go back when it's warmer to enjoy the lovely outdoor space. The location was also great - it was very quiet but we were still 10 minutes from downtown. We had no trouble getting Ubers back and forth. We would definitely go back, thank you for a lovely weekend Georgia!

Owner's Response: A historic snowstorm temporarily shut down Asheville and the entire East Coast. My job was to make sure that my guests could enjoy the romantic experience of feeling like they were snowed in – without lacking for anything. There was a lot of snow to shovel, but it was all great fun!

Great Place

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Red Gate Cottage!

Everything we needed was provided and we easily slept 8 comfortably. The hot tub was a nice bonus since we were in town with cyclists who were racing at the Biltmore for the week. We had a great time unwinding each night and even enjoyed playing the board games and reading by the fire. Everything was convenient for each of our guests. Thank you Georgia, we will be back!

Thanksgiving Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the Red Gate Cottage for our Thanksgiving week and we had a wonderful time. The cottage is very quaint and the owner was very accommodating.

There are plenty of Restaurants and Grocery Stores at a 10 minute drive, and Downtown Asheville is just 15 minutes away.

These cottage is a keeper and we will be definitely staying again.
