Overview

About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

This magical retreat in a wooded setting has picturesque old world charm reminiscent of an Italian Alpine cottage.

Red Gate Cottage, situated on a knoll in Beaverdam Valley, is a vintage log cabin faced with stone. Semiskilled craftsmen working over decades, using stone and antique brick, produced an effect that makes the cottage resemble an ancient stone house in the Alps. The original log walls inside have been restored and preserved.

The luxury renovation by the Architect/Owner features high pine-faced cathedral ceilings throughout. The river stone fireplace is a focal point where people enjoy gathering to watch movies and cable HDTV or to just soak up the relaxing atmosphere. It's a great venue for romantic couples, friends and family groups to celebrate holidays and special occasions.

A hot tub on the stone patio, cradled by massive rock walls, rests under a vine-draped pergola. Beyond, a sunken garden has blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and fresh herbs to use in the gourmet kitchen, and a fire pit for roasting marshmallows.

From the deck, you can enjoy close mountain views as you dine or sit around a blazing fire in the chiminea. Relax in the hammock, and listen to the sounds of the abundant wild life mingling with those of barnyard animals from nearby farms. Flocks of wild turkeys wander by. Guests recently saw a total of eight black bears (including 4 cubs) during their 10-day stay.

Peaceful and quiet, the cottage is within 10 minutes of the center of Asheville with its many world class restaurants, year-round live entertainment, museums, art galleries, theaters, concert halls, and large exhibitions at the Civic Center. Golfing, rafting, fly fishing and horseback riding are among the local attractions, as well as the Grove Park Inn and the famed Biltmore Estate.

Other nearby activities include spas, YMCA, dancing, yoga, live music, great shops, coffee houses, farmers markets, NC University activities, and the Nature Center. Asheville is an antique hunter’s paradise, and the River Arts District (more than 80 artists’ studios) produces some of the best art in America. Shoppers will love the boutiques and specialty shops. A 24-hour grocery store is 5 minutes away, and there are many gourmet shops – the Greenlife Market is not to be missed!

The NC University (UNCA) campus is just minutes away. Black Mountain is within 30 minutes, and Lake Lure, Chimney Rock Park and Wolf Laurel Ski Resort are all within 45 minutes. Mt. Mitchell, highest mountain in the Eastern U.S., is an hour’s drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The scenic Beaverdam Valley meanders past the country club golf course en route to the spectacular high mountains of the Blue Ridge Parkway – where you can enjoy hiking, mountain biking and scenic drives. Yet the fantastic restaurants and night life of Asheville are only a few minutes away.

At Red Gate Cottage, you can enjoy both town and country, truly the best of both worlds. So bring the children, bring the dog. Here, you can get away from it all but still stay in touch by telephone (free long distance) and high speed wireless internet.

Very unique property

  • 4 of 5

The cottage has lovely grounds which we couldn't enjoy due to bad weather 😟 We had a few issues but they were solved quickly by the owner.

Perfect Retreat

  • 5 of 5

My siblings and I stayed at Red Gate Cottage for an extended weekend, and LOVED IT. Booking with Georgia was simple, and she provided many terrific recommendations for local attractions. We arrived and the property blew my expectations out of the water. The cottage and lot were so tidy, and cozy. I felt at home, even though I had never been there before. Georgia has a keen eye for detail, and the cottage is very well organized. We spent the cool mornings out on the deck with a book and cup of coffee near the warmth of the chimenea. The hot tub was wonderful after coming back in the evenings from a day of sightseeing. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a place to stay in Asheville. Thanks Georgia!

LOVED Red Gate and Georgia

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I arrived at Red Gate Cottage and were thoroughly surprised - every single detail had been thought of. There was salt and pepper, spices, a specialized dog treat for our furry friend, a bottle of delicious wine, and even enough pancake mix and coffee for the next morning! The hot tub was amazing and Georgia's book of attractions made navigating Asheville so much easier. It was cold for our stay but we had plenty of blankets and the indoor fireplace made the whole cottage comfy and warm!

We could not have been happier with our stay, with Georgia's hospitality and helpfulness, and with our choice of cottage. Georgia is even helping to return left items. We would recommend to everyone and anyone!

Quaint dog-friendly cottage convenient to Asheville

  • 5 of 5

My wife & I and our 2 pugs stayed at Georgia's cottage for 4 nights at the end of an unseasonably warm February. The cottage is compact but cozy with all the mod cons. Was easy to find, about 10 minutes from all the action in Asheville & convenient to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The gas stone fireplace and hot tub out back are nice touches. Great place to bring your dogs; Georgia left out customized dog-treats for our 2 guys, and the fenced-in yard makes it convenient to let the dogs out and roam. Nothing really bad to say, though I'd say it'd be a little tight for 6 adults. 4 adults and 2 kids would be fine. For the very fair rental price, it's a good option for a romantic couple getaway.

Fantastic rustic cortage

  • 5 of 5

We had a weekend in Asheville with two teenagers and it was a wonderful experience. Georgia couldn't have been more accommodating and we loved everything about the house.

It really is only minutes away from downtown Asheville and there are supermarkets and such very convenient to the property while still feeling like we are out of town.
