About Scott Stoll and Susanna Place
We have dreamt about spending more time in Guatemala for 30 years, since Susanna first traveled here to study traditional textiles and Scott worked here as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the mid-1970s. Now that our children are older, we decided to put down roots. We purchased this easy, spacious house in a quiet neighborhood, and have enjoyed renovations to add comfort and art, and we purchased an additional empty lot to expanding the gardens so we could pick our own avocados and fruit in the backyard! Scott is a sculptor and Susanna volunteers with Safe Passage/Camino Seguro and pursues interests in the Ixil Region of northern El Quiche Department. Her new guidebook is called 'Guatemala Journey Among the Ixil Maya' -- for sale and bookstores in Guatemala.

Why Scott Stoll and Susanna Place chose Antigua Guatemala
This particular neighborhood, at the south-western side of Antigua, is quiet, well-maintained, and just beyond the constant swirl of dust and noise of central Antigua. It remains very easy walking distance to the central park, restaurants, and the market -- where we shop for produce on an almost daily basis. We deliberately did not choose a gated community, and enjoy daily exchanges with our neighbors --a mix of Guatemalans and expatriates -- who socialize regularly and actively attend to neighborhood developments. It really feels like home and not just a vacation rental.
What makes this House unique
Huge gardens, room for kids to play ball or ping-pong, a variety of spots for sunbathing, reading in the hammock, yoga, listening to the birdsong, and viewing the magnificent surrounding landscape.

A beautiful place to stay in Antigua
This is our second time staying at this property and it was everything that we remembered.
Beautiful and spacious home. Conveniently located for walking all around Antigua. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Well equipped kitchen for renters that want to stay in and cook their own meals from the bountiful produce available from the local market.
Amazing views of the volcanoes from the terrace and sun porch. Will never tire of watching Fuego erupt on the far horizon at night.
Comfortable, amazing 'home away from home' in Antigua
We had a delightful three-week stay at Casa Número 3. The typical Mayan weavings on walls and chairs, the owner's flowing wooden sculptures, the colorful mosaic and paintings, the views of nearby volcanoes from the patios -- all combined to make a spectacular backdrop to our memorable stay in Antigua. We used the well-stocked kitchen every day to make meals. It was an easy and picturesque walk to nearby markets, restaurants, bakery and grocery stores from the quiet Callejón del Espíritu Santo. The house team of Jose, Ana and Erik Leonel was super. Our two teen-age children studied Spanish daily during one-on-one lessons with marvelous teachers at nearby Escuela Tecun Uman. We enjoyed a fun chocolate-making workshop at La Trufa Chapina, breakfast and banana bread at Doña Luisa Xicotencatl, dinner with a view at Tartines, indulging at the San Martin bakery, hiking to Caoba Farms for healthy smoothies, buying fresh tortillas from the lady seated outside Pollo Campero, and so much more! Thanks to Scott and Susanna for sharing their lovely home with travelers to Antigua.
Perfect house in Antigua
This house is spacious, comfortable and beautiful, and José, the property manager, was a pleasure to work with. His English is very good but he was kind enough to indulge our efforts to speak Spanish. He picked us up at the airport, helped us with other transportation and facilitated our request
Well stocked home with great staff
We were greeted at airport by jose, the property manger, and delivered safely to our home where we were provided with a full tour and orientation. The home is beautiful, clean, and well stocked with kitchen and needed items. The staff is avail for any issues that arise and the gardener and cleaning gal are lovely. The location was perfect, close to groceries, market, and buses, yet far enough away to be a quieter area. A definite home away from home. We look forward to our next trip to casa #3.
another joyful stay
We once again thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The beautiful back garden had become even more beautiful and the house was as always spacious, comfortable, quiet and thoughtfully furnished. The support staff was excellent.
So glad you enjoyed your stay. Antigua is truly a magical place! Thanks for staying at Casa 3!
I choose this house in Antigua for the week of my wedding and was so happy to have made this choice. This home is amazing, it has plenty of space for your entire family with three back yards, one with a fountain, 2nd with basketball court and ping pong table, 3rd with Avocado and lemon trees, it has four good sized rooms plus a den with views to the Volcano, the owners and Jose property manager are so nice and kind and were very helpful during our stay. This house provides everything you need, we hired Ana the housekeeper to cook for us and her food was so delicious and healthy. All the furniture and beds in the house were very comfortable and they provide towels and linens. Location is great as they are close to the Mercado and a few blocks from Parque Central. As a person that works with vacation rentals I give this place 10 Stars. Thank you Scott and Susana for letting us stay in your beautiful home.
Easy access to fabulous cultural, archaeological, and ecological explorations, Spanish lessons, volunteering opportunities, wonderful restaurants, fresh produce, art galleries, lectures and workshops, and all the treasures of colorful cultural Antigua.
