This lovely, clean, and unique log cabin is located in northern Michigan surrounded by beautiful hardwood trees and just feet away from a calm no wake lake. This cabin is truly a little gem on Thayer Lake and right across the street from the world recognized Torch Lake. If summer is your season you can enjoy your days either kayaking, fishing, napping in the hammock, sitting in the hot tub, taking a scenic walk, or visiting one of the many other lakes in the area. You will be minutes away from great restaurants and the great outdoors. If you wish to spend time here in the winter you will amazed at the proximity of many outdoor sports including; downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, and of course ice fishing right out your backdoor. Any one of these activities couldn't be capped off any better then by sliding into the steaming water our your own personal hot tub.

We had a great weekend! Enjoyed the hot tub, bon fire pit and kayaks!
Rustic Cabin in Beautiful, Quiet Lake
We stayed with our son, daughter-in-law and grandson. The cabin is a bit tight for 5, but we spent most of our time outside, enjoying the lake and the amenities available. The bathroom is very small, the shower is tight. The kitchen could use some updates, but provided the basics, a cooktop, refridgerator and sink. Pots, pans, dishes and utensils are provided. I would recommend bringing an extra kitchen towel or two. They do provide linens and bath towels. You need to bring beach towels. Also, bring extra TP and paper towels. The glass/plexiglass ceiling in the sitting area is really nice, just needs to be squeegied!
The best part is the little beach on the lake where you can sit and relax. There are tons of toys, so our 3 year old grandson was in heaven, building sand castles and splashing in the lake. Thayer Lake is a quiet, no wake lake, and we made use of the kayaks, canoe and small boat. The boys fished while the girls enjoyed the opportunity to float and relax.
If you are looking for a place to just turn off the world - you can certainly do it here. The wifi worked well. We will definitely go back Up North!
Great place to unplug and relax!
This was our first experience with a HomeAway.com rental and it was great!! The property was exactly as described and the location could not have been better! The private hot tub and the use of the canoe on the quiet peaceful lake were definitely the highlights! We spent most of our days taking our boat to several nearby lakes and then spent the evenings in the hot tub and near the fire pit. Beautiful views from the yard and even from inside! The skylight roof over the living room is an awesome touch - although it needs a little cleaning and TLC. We actually set up our air mattress in that room and slept there all week! The beds all appeared to be comfortable and clean but we didn’t sleep in them at all because we liked the living room location best.
The cabin is in a line of 4 or 5 cabins that are all pretty close together but they’ve done a good job of separating with fences and natural barriers so it still felt surprisingly private while we were there.
Being tent campers for years, We totally loved our first indoor rental experience and will definitely go this route again! The only thing stopping us from giving 5 stars is that we feel, for the price charged, the cabin should be in a little better shape and a few more items should be included (toilet paper, paper towels, etc). A little bit of tree trimming would help with the maintenance on the sky light roof and make the views from the hot tub even more incredible!
Perfect northern getaway
My wife and I really needed to step away from our busy lives, we found the cabin very relaxing, and with a great view and setting on Thayer lake. We enjoyed the hot tub, the mornings coffee at lake level from the hot tub was pretty cool. Thanks to our host for the use of the place, we will be back!
Boat leaked and had to bail out every 10 min.
House was nice But too close to smoking neighbors. Would enjoy if not close to street or neighbors.
Thank you for the review. We are glad that you found the house nice.
Our listing does state that there is a canoe and two kayaks at the cabin free for your use. However, the fishing boat is not listed as something for guest use. The boat, as we know, is in need of repair. If you would have asked us if this was free for you to use we would have let you know that it is not.
As for the neighbor, we are sorry that the smoke bothered you. With the six foot privacy fence between the neighbor's house and ours, we have not noticed that this has been an issue in the past but do feel bad that it was bothersome. However, this is not a direct review of the house. I would like to note that this neighbor is no longer living at that house, as of recently.
We do strive to provide a clean wonderful property where guests would like to visit again.
Again, thank you for your feedback.
Cozy relaxed get away.
Had a great vacation! Beautiful view. Cottage was cozy and family friendly. Didn't want to come back home to reality. Would definitely recommend
