Girdwood is Awesome. Ideal locale for day trips. Not typical vacation rental-Borrow Friend's Place

  • 2 of 5

Girdwood and condo location are amazing. Layout is great with no windows in bedroom for long summer days. Stocked with TP and linens. Wash/Dry for $2.00 each and game tables were great. Grocery store adequate price and selection. (Anchorage better of course) Girdwood Transit is awesome. Amazing vacation for family of 5 (kids 8, 5, and 2)

We have used HA for all trips since 2007 and a few negatives are worth mentioning.

Owners are friendly and respond quickly but blamed being unfamiliar with Home Away/VRBO and its process changes including inaccurate price quote, cleaning fee and the timing of deposit refund. Owner solicited payment and offered refund outside HA. The consistency and protections of HA is why we use it.

Beds are old and uncomfortable. The bottom bunk has a 2 inch foam topper to cover it up. Linens were average with noticeable bleach stains. Bathroom is very dated (no pic, right) Oven and dishwasher dated and do not perform well. (Brand new fridge) Sectional couch is well used/uncomfortable. Game room area is right outside neighbor doors and smells awful and furniture is quite gross. All of these issues result in the condo not being worth a repeat stay in the future.

However, the condo really is not setup as a vacation rental based on our expectations to not have owners personal items. Bathroom medicine cabinet and drawers were filled with personal care items. Kitchen cabinets/drawers were full of personal items, junk and old food items. The bathroom nor the kitchen had a single cleared cabinet or drawer for renters use. The fridge had lots of old food. Fridge door was completely filled. (3 jars of salsa). Christmas S’mores kit was left out. (We stayed in July) Foam back rollers and other unnecessary personal items that weren’t of a decorative nature were out. The interior doors are difficult to shut /open and the front door doesn’t have a dead bolt. The patio doesn’t have chairs to enjoy but my kids loved the bag of ice melting salt and snow shovel. (July still) Cleaners left garbage and cleaning supplies out. Dishwasher had dirty dishes and soap tablet inside but had not been run. We kept commenting we were borrowing a friend’s house for the weekend rather than a vacation rental. With all of this, a personal owners locked off closet does exist. Perhaps consider cleaning the place up and using the closet for its intended purpose as expected of a vacation rental. Hope you enjoy your stay---

Girdwood itself is awesome

Great Base Point and Incredible Scenery,

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this condo for a week and it was perfect for what we had planned. It had everything we needed. We ate at the nearby Seven Glaciers Restaurant for our anniversary and it was amazing! We also ate at Jack Sprat and Chair 5 restaurants and both were also great. We hiked the Winner Creek Trail nearby. We did a day trip to Whittier for the 26 Glacier Cruise of Prince William Sound and also a Wildlife Cruise of Resurrection Bay in Seward. The scenery was unbelievable!! This was our first trip to Alaska and we would love to come back. We would highly recommend staying at this condo. The owners, Ben and Kelly were both very helpful. Thanks for making our dream vacation even better than we imagined.

We want to thank the owners of this amazing property, Ben and Kelly, to give us the opportunity to stay at their place while we were visiting Alaska in July, 2017!!!

It is a great cozy place to stay !!! We found everything we need it at their place. It was always great to come home after driving for hikes and other adventures while we were in Alaska. Their condo has everything you need!!!

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

This condo is great. Easy access to slopes and restaurants. The condo is so close to Chair 3 that even my three year old could carry her own gear. We did not drive our car one time the entire holiday. Plenty of kitchen supplies for dining in. The recreation room is a huge plus for the kiddos. My kids loved it! I would definitely stay here again.

Great place to stay for a ski weekend!

  • 5 of 5

Condo was spacious, convenient, and affordable. Much better deal than staying at the resort. Kitchen was fully equipped - perfect for our family to cook and eat meals and recharge before and after skiing each day. We loved the decor and photography displayed in the house. Three beds provided plenty of sleeping space and there were ample towels and blankets. We also enjoyed the ping pong and pool table in the common area. It was a bonus having access to a shared (coin-op) washer and dryer too. Nice to just park the car for the weekend and walk around the corner to the lifts every day, especially considering Alyeska got 3 ft. of fresh powder at the top during the 5 days we where there (when Anchorage only got a couple inches)! Owners were super friendly and easy to work with. We'll be back!
