New Mexico House Rental Photos and Description

House, 1 Bedroom w/KING bed, 1 Bath, Hot tub, HD TV, Netflix, QUEEN sofabed, A/C

You will love it here! Casa Montoya is a very romantic, charming adobe vacation rental house 3 blocks from historic Taos Plaza. The tall cottonwood trees in the backyard keep the house cool in summer and provide a graceful backdrop for the private hot tub. If it's too hot, we have a new A.C. Watch the stars in the private hot tub - there's a tall fence surrounding it. Two nights to two or three weeks, but we do not offer monthly rentals since our cleaning crew needs steady work - and they're the best.

The high-end furniture, including a KING bed guests rave about, is a suave mixing of old country charm and sophisticated comfortable furnishings designed by an award-winning designer from Paris. Cook a great meal in the big kitchen which is fully equipped, and let the dishwasher do the dishes - or walk to the wonderful restaurants nearby. The bathroom (tub and shower) has Mexican tile and hand-painted sink. The floors in the house are wood (a little squeaky but they're old) and Saltillo tile and the ceilings are wood. You'll sleep well in the King bed in the bedroom with four big pillows and three small ones. For more than two guests, there's a Queen sofa bed in the living room. The brick patio is for outdoor eating or relaxing in summertime. The gas BBQ grill is easy to use. The Kiva fireplace is not working at this time - sorry - that's why I lowered the nightly fees.

You can enjoy a romantic weekend or longer vacation and delight in all the amenities of home in this 'magical, enchanting abode' (words of a guest.) There's a small casita in the back of the property which I sometimes rent out, but so far only fabulous people have been drawn to this property on Montoya Street.

Bring your laptop: we have wifi. If your favorite TV show is on while you'll be out, just record it. We have Dish Hi Definition TV with DVR. And Netflix! There's also a DVD player, CD & stereo, dishwasher, gas grill, humidifier, yoga mat, 8 & 10 lb. weights. Cooking utensils, linens and towels are also provided and be sure to check the fridge and cupboards before grocery shopping. There's a water filter on the kitchen faucet for pure drinking water (Taos water tastes unpleasant.) The laundry room has a washer and dryer and laundry detergent is supplied.

This is a non-smoking rental. A dog (well... maybe two) is welcome but there is a flat pet fee.

If you want a larger place that's about the same price as Casa Montoya, check out my daughter Winton's Casa Paloma. It has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and you'll love Winton's sweet energy. Go to VRBO Listing #262087.

Considered 'sacred' by many of the residents, Taos Mountain is a world-class ski resort. Taos has a rich history and cultural heritage, with numerous galleries, museums and festivals you can walk to from Casa Montoya. You'll love this place - only fabulous people have stayed here!

About Ellen Wood

My wonderful, beautiful daughter Winton has been managing Casa Montoya and Casita Montoya for me for quite a few years now - but it's time for her to move on so at this time I'm managing them myself. Since 2007 I've been writing and giving inspirational talks (about growing younger and living happy!) and I'm currently writing my second book. Can I brag a little? My audio book, 'Think and Grow Young - Powerful Steps to Create a Life of Joy' won the 2011 gold Nautilus Award and I am blessed with four children, two stepchildren, two foster daughters, 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. And for you, I'll do my best to make sure the rentals are well stocked and super clean.

Ellen Wood purchased this house in 2004

Why Ellen Wood chose New Mexico

There's no place more magical or inspiring than Taos! I live 35 miles north of Taos in the boonies but I get to Taos at least once a week - usually to babysit Winton's two precious little girls and go to the supermarket.

What makes this house unique

In the summer it's always cool and toasty warm in winter!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Ellen,

Dee and I forgot to write anything in your little red book but we had a wonderful time and staying in Casa Montoya was extremly very pleasurable. Staying at Casa Montoya versus "suite" hotel is a no brainer.. Casa Montoya is far more relaxing..

We did recommend you to a couple that we met at the Apple Tree at dinner on Saturday..They had never heard of the idea of staying in a house but liked it and we gave them the web site and Casa Montoya name.. Hope they stay as they were nice people.

Best of luck and we will be back..

delightful extras

  • 5 of 5

We were astounded at all the thoughtful extras ready, at Casa Montoya. There were canisters of both regular and decaf coffee in the refrigerator, along with half and half....There were plush hot tub towels, with a little sign over

them, in the bathroom, along with plenty of regular towels. There was every kind of shampoo, soap, and cleaning device, hair dryer, etc. etc. We found a new jar of mustard in the fridge. The amount of utensils, plates, glasses,

and cups was extraordinary. The barbecue worked splendidly. The hot tub was spotlessly clean and sparkling.

We walked into the plaza for dinner at a fine restaurant. Another night, we listened to free live jazz at the Taos Inn. Shopping for art and clothing was also a short few blocks away downtown. We had a great time at Casa Montoya.

Charming House close to Taos Pueblo

  • 5 of 5

Unfortunately we did not reap all of the benefits offered by this property. Ellen was fantastic to work with. We were held up by a flash flood at Ghost Ranch, so we arrived a day late on our two-day stay. It rained off and on our entire stay at Taos, including our visit to Taos Pueblo. The house is well laid out, very clean and charming as well. The kitchen was well stocked and the shower/bath and towels were excellent. We did not have an opportunity to utilize the spa. We appreciated having a washer and dryer, as we had run out of clean clothes. Ellen was very gracious concerning our delay, offering us a make-up day on our next visit. Be sure to visit nearby Taos Pueblo; it is both historical and inspirational. We will definitely stay at Ellen's house on our next visit. Thank you Ellen.

Relaxing and homey!

  • 5 of 5

A great place to stay in Taos, very relaxing. Loved the hot tub. It was a reasonable walking distance to the plaza but the route down Montoya to Kit Carson Road went by some aggressive dogs so we walked the other way down Los Pondos on later walks. Would definitely come back if we come to Taos again.

Comfortable and Convenient

  • 5 of 5

Perfect fit for our family of 3 for a ski weekend! Comfortable bedroom and living room areas; kitchen isn't big but is well-equipped for cooking. Very close to grocery stores, shopping and restaurants! Hot tub was a nice plus after a day on the slopes. We'd definitely stay at Casa Montoya again.

Car: recommended

A.C. COOL in summer, Ski nearby at Taos Mountain in winter, visit the museums, galleries, shops and casinos, and stroll around historic Taos Plaza. Enjoy good, healthy organic foods from Cid's, a large health good supermarket. Visit one of the world's highest bridges, which spans the Rio Grande. Also must see: Wild Rivers Recreation Area, a deep canyon where the Rio Grande meets Red River and is great for hikers with lots of energy. Great Sand Dunes National Park is just over the border in Colorado.
