Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 5 nights

About the property

House, 1 Bedroom w/KING Bed, 1 Bath, Hot Tub, HD TV, WiFi, QUEEN sofabed, A/C

You will love it here! Casa Montoya is a very romantic, charming adobe vacation rental house 3 blocks from historic Taos Plaza. WiFi - HiDef TV - Netflix. The tall shade trees in the backyard keep the house cool in summer and provide a graceful backdrop for the private hot tub. If it's too hot, we have A.C. Watch the stars in the private hot tub - there's a tall fence surrounding it. Two nights to two or three weeks, but we do not offer monthly rentals since our cleaning crew needs steady work - and they're the best.

The high-end furniture, including a KING bed guests rave about, is a suave mixing of old country charm and sophisticated, comfortable furnishings designed by an award-winning designer from Paris. Cook a great meal in the big kitchen which is fully equipped, and let the dishwasher do the dishes - or walk to the wonderful restaurants nearby. The bathroom (tub and shower) has Mexican tile and hand-painted sink. The floors in the house are wood (a little squeaky but they're old) and Saltillo tile and the ceilings are wood. You'll sleep well in the King bed in the bedroom with four big pillows and three small ones. For more than two guests, there's a Queen sofa bed in the living room, which guests tell us is very comfortable. The brick patio is for outdoor eating or relaxing in summertime. The gas BBQ grill is easy to use. The red living room furniture surrounds a Kiva gas fireplace - just turn the knob (inside the Kiva) counterclockwise if it gets chilly. Of course, we also have a furnace - just adjust the thermostat on the wall.

You can enjoy a romantic weekend or longer vacation and delight in all the amenities of home in this 'magical, enchanting abode' (words of a guest.) There's a small casita in the back of the property which I sometimes rent out, but so far only fabulous people have been drawn to this property on Montoya Street.

Bring your laptop: we have wifi. If your favorite TV show is on while you'll be out, just record it. We have Dish Hi Definition TV with DVR. And Netflix! There's also a CD stereo player, dishwasher, gas grill, humidifier, yoga mat, 8 & 10 lb. weights, iron and ironing board, full-length mirror, hair dryer, ski rack in the entryway and portable bathroom heater. Cooking utensils, linens and towels are also provided and be sure to check the fridge and cupboards before grocery shopping. There's a Brita pitcher for pure, filtered drinking water (Taos water tastes unpleasant.) The laundry room has a washer and dryer and laundry detergent is supplied.

This is a non-smoking rental. A dog (well... maybe two) is welcome but there is a flat pet fee. Smaller casita vacation rental is next door. VRBO listing #143844.

If you want a larger place that's about the same price as Casa Montoya, check out my daughter Winton's Casa Paloma. It has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and you'll love Winton's sweet energy. Go to VRBO Listing #262087.

Considered 'sacred' by many of the residents, Taos Mountain is a world-class ski resort. Taos has a rich history and cultural heritage, with numerous galleries, museums and festivals you can walk to from Casa Montoya. You'll love this place - only fabulous people have stayed here!

And for you, my wonderful, beautiful daughter Harper manages Casa Montoya and Casita Montoya. Her artistic nature and attention to detail makes sure the rentals are beautiful, in shape, well stocked and super clean.

Why Ellen Wood chose Taos

There's no place more magical or inspiring than Taos! This is a joyful house, full of character and charm. It's close proximity to Taos attractions, yet on a quiet street make this casa very appealing. It is so sweet, it feels magical and inspiring too, just like Taos!

What makes this house unique

It's uniquely less expensive, though charming and comfortable. In the summer it's always cool, and toasty warm in winter! It's an easy walk to the historic Plaza with lots of delightful stores and galleries along the way. Enjoy private the hot tub under shade trees in the summertime. Sit back and watch the hummingbirds flitter about.

Dee and I forgot to write anything in your little red book but we had a wonderful time and staying in Casa Montoya was extremly very pleasurable. Staying at Casa Montoya versus "suite" hotel is a no brainer.. Casa Montoya is far more relaxing..

We did recommend you to a couple that we met at the Apple Tree at dinner on Saturday..They had never heard of the idea of staying in a house but liked it and we gave them the web site and Casa Montoya name.. Hope they stay as they were nice people.

Best of luck and we will be back..

Cozy and quaint beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

Loved staying at this home. The owner is very nice and provided everything you would need. The husband and I wanted to go skiing for our anniversary and spend some quality time together. She made that easy with this beautiful home. After a long day of skiing we got to come back to a long soak in the private hot tub. Thank you again for being available for us to stay couldn't imagine staying anywhere else.

Excellent property

Casa Montoya is an outstanding VRBO property. Beautifully appointed, efficiently equipped and an easy walk to downtown Taos. We hiked, toured the sites and shopped with all of the comforts of home. We will be back.

Two Weeks of Fun!

  • 5 of 5

I chose Casa Montoya for my two-week stay in Taos because of the charming pictures and the washer and dryer! Such a comfortable accommodation, charming hostess and once I arrived, I was amazed by the extras. Everything one would need has been provided. It's centrally located...only a minute's drive to a huge grocery market. When I return to Taos, I will come back to Casa Montoya.

Very welcoming and such a quiet retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Once again we enjoyed our visit. Once again I didn't want to leave. All of the red throughout was so energizing. We brought our Corgi on this trip and she felt right at home too. Although she did have a lot of trouble negotiating the slippery wooden floors. Ellen has done a fantastic job of decorating this casa in true Taos fashion. I am ready to go again!!

Car: recommended

A.C. COOL in summer, Ski nearby at Taos Mountain in winter, visit the museums, galleries, shops and casinos, and stroll around historic Taos Plaza. Enjoy good, healthy organic foods from Cid's, a large health good supermarket. Visit one of the world's highest bridges, which spans the Rio Grande. Also must see: Wild Rivers Recreation Area, a deep canyon where the Rio Grande meets Red River and is great for hikers with lots of energy. Great Sand Dunes National Park is just over the border in Colorado.
