You will love it here! Casa Montoya is a very romantic, charming adobe vacation rental house 3 blocks from historic Taos Plaza. The tall cottonwood trees in the backyard keep the house cool in summer and provide a graceful backdrop for the private hot tub. If it's too hot, we have a new A.C. Watch the stars in the private hot tub - there's a tall fence surrounding it. Two nights to two or three weeks, but we do not offer monthly rentals since our cleaning crew needs steady work - and they're the best.
The high-end furniture, including a KING bed guests rave about, is a suave mixing of old country charm and sophisticated, comfortable furnishings designed by an award-winning designer from Paris. Cook a great meal in the big kitchen which is fully equipped, and let the dishwasher do the dishes - or walk to the wonderful restaurants nearby. The bathroom (tub and shower) has Mexican tile and hand-painted sink. The floors in the house are wood (a little squeaky but they're old) and Saltillo tile and the ceilings are wood. You'll sleep well in the King bed in the bedroom with four big pillows and three small ones. For more than two guests, there's a Queen sofa bed in the living room, which guests tell us is very comfortable. The brick patio is for outdoor eating or relaxing in summertime. The gas BBQ grill is easy to use. The red living room furniture surrounds a Kiva gas fireplace - just turn the knob (inside the Kiva) counterclockwise if it gets chilly. Of course, we also have a furnace - just adjust the thermostat on the wall.
You can enjoy a romantic weekend or longer vacation and delight in all the amenities of home in this 'magical, enchanting abode' (words of a guest.) There's a small casita in the back of the property which I sometimes rent out, but so far only fabulous people have been drawn to this property on Montoya Street.
Bring your laptop: we have wifi. If your favorite TV show is on while you'll be out, just record it. We have Dish Hi Definition TV with DVR. And Netflix! There's also a CD stereo player, dishwasher, gas grill, humidifier, yoga mat, 8 & 10 lb. weights, iron and ironing board, full-length mirror, hair dryer, ski rack in the entryway and portable bathroom heater. Cooking utensils, linens and towels are also provided and be sure to check the fridge and cupboards before grocery shopping. There's a Brita pitcher for pure, filtered drinking water (Taos water tastes unpleasant.) The laundry room has a washer and dryer and laundry detergent is supplied.
This is a non-smoking rental. A dog (well... maybe two) is welcome but there is a flat pet fee. Smaller casita vacation rental is next door. VRBO listing #143844.
If you want a larger place that's about the same price as Casa Montoya, check out my daughter Winton's Casa Paloma. It has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and you'll love Winton's sweet energy. Go to VRBO Listing #262087.
Considered 'sacred' by many of the residents, Taos Mountain is a world-class ski resort. Taos has a rich history and cultural heritage, with numerous galleries, museums and festivals you can walk to from Casa Montoya. You'll love this place - only fabulous people have stayed here!
My wonderful, beautiful daughter Winton has been managing Casa Montoya and Casita Montoya for me for quite a few years now - but it's time for her to move on so at this time I'm managing them myself. Since 2007 I've been writing and giving inspirational talks (about growing younger and living happy!) and I'm currently writing my second book. Can I brag a little? My audio book, 'Think and Grow Young - Powerful Steps to Create a Life of Joy' won the 2011 gold Nautilus Award and I am blessed with four children, two stepchildren, two foster daughters, 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. And for you, I'll do my best to make sure the rentals are well stocked and super clean.
Ellen Wood purchased this house in 2004
There's no place more magical or inspiring than Taos! I live 35 miles north of Taos in the boonies but I get to Taos at least once a week - usually to babysit Winton's two precious little girls and go to the supermarket.
In the summer it's always cool and toasty warm in winter!

Dee and I forgot to write anything in your little red book but we had a wonderful time and staying in Casa Montoya was extremly very pleasurable. Staying at Casa Montoya versus "suite" hotel is a no brainer.. Casa Montoya is far more relaxing..
We did recommend you to a couple that we met at the Apple Tree at dinner on Saturday..They had never heard of the idea of staying in a house but liked it and we gave them the web site and Casa Montoya name.. Hope they stay as they were nice people.
Best of luck and we will be back..
Lovely little Casa near downtown Taos. Quick drive up the mountain to Ski Valley. Perfect for a romantic weekend, or a spring-break with the kids. The hot tub was great for relaxing in after a long day on the slopes. Can't forget to mention how helpful and responsive Ellen was. She really goes the extra mile to make sure you are comfortable on your stay!! Would definitely stay here again or another property of hers.
This property was the perfect spot for a winter get-away in the mountains. Even from the very first communications with Ms. Wood, I felt like an old friend rather than a complete stranger. The house itself was cute, cozy, immaculate, and very inviting. It has everything you need and much, much more!! The private hot tub was fantastic and the king size bed was super comfy!! If we ever find our way back to Taos, NM we will definitely book Casa Montoya again!!
Hot tub was perfect after a long day of skiing. 4 of us stayed here with plenty of room. Walking distance to restaurants and breweries. The house was a highlight to a perfect vacation.
My partner and I spent 5 nights in this lovely casita during the Thanksgiving holiday. It is pretty much as described - spacious, nicely furnished, and comfortable. It has all the furnishings you need for your stay, including anything you need in the kitchen to prepare a full meal or just some snacks. It is an easy walk to downtown, so you really don't need a car unless you want to go out and explore the countryside. It is a perfect place for a few nights or even a week or so visit. You will not be disappointed if you choose to stay here.
Casa Montoya is a really unique home for a stay whether it be a couple of days or and extended period of time. The appointments are superb with everything a person might need and more. We always look for a comfortable bed and this met that desire. The owners take special care, checking in to make sure everything is going as planned. We couldn't ask for more and will return when going to Taos.
A.C. COOL in summer, Ski nearby at Taos Mountain in winter, visit the museums, galleries, shops and casinos, and stroll around historic Taos Plaza. Enjoy good, healthy organic foods from Cid's, a large health good supermarket. Visit one of the world's highest bridges, which spans the Rio Grande. Also must see: Wild Rivers Recreation Area, a deep canyon where the Rio Grande meets Red River and is great for hikers with lots of energy. Great Sand Dunes National Park is just over the border in Colorado.
