|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
A lovely home situated in the hills above San Juan del Sur. Just 3 miles outside of town, the house offers sweeping views of the bay.
The main house has a spacious living room and master bedroom which opens onto a large terrace overlooking the pool area and gardens. The kitchen is fully equipped and open to the living room. The master bedroom is spacious with a large private bathroom. The second bedroom and bath comprise the separate casita which affords complete privacy to both you and your traveling companions.
In the mornings pick mangos and grapefruit and have coffee on the terrace to watch the parrots and monkeys. Then take a dip in the pool, head into town for shopping or take a drive out to Playa Maderas to catch some surf. Enjoy cocktails in the afternoon at the pool while taking in the gorgeous sunsets. In the evening enjoy dinner in town or just stay in and pass a tranquil night with the fireflies.
4 wheel-drive property. Take a shuttle into SJDS and rent a car in town or rent a car at the airport in Managua. A representative will meet you in SJDS and take you to Villa Oro. Housekeeper 2 days per week. More photos available.
With two of my friends, all retired, we rented this Villa for one month in january.We rented a regular car from National in San Juan and arranged transfer from Airport with Adelante.We visited much of Nicaragua, including Leon and Granada. I highly recommend this villa and agree with all the nice things reported by previous guests.From what I had read from other visitors I expected very bad roads but I was surprised with the quality of the roads in Nic in general. Of course the last mile to the house is somewhat rough, but we made it easy with a regular standard Toyota Yaris. We went to most beaches and only one would need a 4 wheel drive: Madera beach.and if you really wanted to go to this beach there is a cheap taxi service from town.Of course we were not in the rainy season at wich time a 4X4 would be recommended( double the price of a regular car). The cost of living is amazingly low and you can eat in most restaurants fom 4.00 to 12,00$. The Villa is far enough from town( 15 minutes) for relaxing and yet close enough for all your required needs. Security is tops with 24 hrs on site surveillance.The staff is frendly and helpfull and Gordon promply replied to all our questions. We will be back.
My husband and I spent two wonderful weeks at Villa Oro. Though there were only two of us, it would easily accommodate another couple, or children. Villa Oro is a wonderful place to stay while visiting San Juan del Sur. The house is in a lovely, quiet location about 10 minutes from town. The house is situated in the hills above San Juan, with stunning views of the ocean, the sunsets, and the night sky. The house is amazingly well equipped, and the kitchen has everything you might want for any cooking you want to do at home. We actually preferred to sip a drink, and eat dinner on the veranda, watching the sun set over the bay. The house is very light and airy, with high ceilings. The living area is large, with French doors that open onto the veranda. The master bedroom has a king size bed, with a lovely master bath. This bedroom also has French doors that open onto the veranda. The whole house has enough doors and windows, so that it was delightful to open them up and let the breeze blow through. The grounds are large, and beautifully landscaped. The howler monkeys came onto the property on several occasions, and the pool was a treat after a day at the beach. Finally, the wifi is great!
We had a very small rental car, which was fine for navigating the road to Villa Oro in the dry season. We also had no trouble getting to most all of the beaches in our little Yaris. We enjoyed the fresh fish we bought near the port, the produce in the market, Sanchez Market, the bread at Pan de Vida, and the occasional trip to Pali.
The owner is very responsive, and will help you with any questions you have regarding the property, and the onsite caretakers are extremely helpful as well.
My boyfriend, daughter and I stayed at Villa Oro for a week in Nica. We had an amazing time. The home was better in person. We arrived at the house and it was very clean. The owner was very helpful at answering every question I had about the home and our surroundings. The home is beautiful and the people are so kind. The location of the house is not even ten minutes from the downtown area. We had privacy and didn't feel bothered at all.. I've been home for about a week now and all I keep thinking about is being there. I would definitely consider going back tomorrow. Villa Oro allowed us to have an amazing/memorable vacation. Till next year!!!
We had our best vacation ever here. My husband and two kids, age 10 and 12, spent Christmas 2013 in this house. It was magical! The house is great, with everything you need, including a lovely pool and fast wifi. Eight days was not enough and we are already talking about returning. My daughter learned to surf, we rode horses and had lots of adventures. You should rent this house. Make sure to rent a four wheel drive until the road is paved.
My family stayed over the Christmas holiday (my husband, son and I). The property was perfect for a family with a teenager (or multiple kids or teens) because they have their own separate guest house with 2 beds near to the larger house. The pictures don't do the house justice. It was really lovely with high ceiling, an open airy feel and nice, comfortable furnishings. We bought groceries at the Pali a few miles away and cooked a lot in the very well appointed kitchen. You could easily spend your whole time at the Casa and not venture out if you just wanted to relax. The grounds are gorgeous with tropical plants, and the sounds birds and howler monkeys (we didn't see any but we heard them). The pool is kept very clean by the friendly groundskeepers and perfect for cooling off in the afternoon. We loved being a few miles outside of town so we could totally get away but also go to town when we felt like more excitement. We rented a small car and although the road is a bit rough in the dry season a car made it ok. In the rainy season you likely need a 4 wheel drive. The rough road is approx. 1 mile long. We also walked to town a bit. If you are a hiker and don't mind the 4 to 5 miles road trip hike its really lovely. The property has this amazing deck to rock in rocking chairs and stare out at the rain forest and the jungle. The price is also very affordable compared to many other homes we looked at on VRBO. The owner (Gordan) was very helpful with providing us information about the nearby area and communicating via email (the house has good WIFI so you can use your hand held). Villa Oro is within driving distance of some of the most amazing surf spots. We LOVED San Juan Del Surf and Casa Oro! We miss it already. Kat
Three of us stayed at Villa Oro over New Year's and had an amazing time. The home is stunning - the pictures do not do the home, vistas or grounds justice! We were three women and felt perfectly safe, and made great friends with the next door neighbors. We did not have a car and managed fine without. Since we were there during the high season, we were happy to have a place that was a bit away from the hustle and bustle at night but close enough that we didn't feel like it was a hassle to get into town. The key is to get a cab driver's phone number - it's like having a personal chauffer. If you want to explore more than just the town, however, I'd recommend a car (you can rent one at one of the other resorts in town, I believe). As far as attractions and things to do, the beach is gorgeous (we felt perfectly safe at night on the beach as well), I had a great time surfing, so definitely check out some of the nearby beaches such as Playa Hermosa (there are shuttles that will take you there and back). When we went, the waves were small enough so that non-surfers could swim and play. The bar Republika is where the local ex-pats hang out (Wednesday nights are trivia night), and Cory and his wife who run it are the best. If you're looking for a surf instructor, Cory is the man. I learned more from him and got up immediately than four lessons in California. The zip line tour is just outside of town and is really fun. And after a fun day of adventure, you can go back to Villa Oro and relax on the amazing deck and watch the sunset over the Pacific, amongst the beautiful bouganvilla and other flora and fauna on the grounds. A couple of things to note, which did not impact our stay but you should be aware of: there isn't hot water, as is common in most of Central America; the casita, with the second bedroom, has two beds that are very close together but it can get a bit stuffy. Oh, the turtle tour is well worth it. We saw turtles making their way to the ocean by the light of the moon. Some of the locals bring their families and help the turtles make their journey as well - an awe-inpsiring experience to say the least, that warmed my heart. Gordon and his wife also answered all of our questions and connected us with drivers and the right people. And Jason, who is the rental manager, was incredibly accomodating as well - these are good people who will do everything to make sure you have the vacation of a life time!
