About Jonathan Rick

Hello, I'm a 65 year old snowbird spending 6 months in Ft. Lauderdale & traveling and 6 months in the Berkshires. I love South Egremont. Lots of beauty and really close to everything. I love to cook so my kitchen is well outfitted. I also will cater meals if you like. If you like to walk or hike this is the place for you and yet we are very close to Great Barrington. The view from this property is outstanding and setting is magical!

Why Jonathan Rick chose Berkshires

I have lived in the Berkshires since 1973 and before that I grew up in Sharon, CT just over the border line into CT. I love this area the natural beauty and the amazing amount of attractions available here.

What makes this cabin unique

Peace & quiet & lots of nature.

Iconic Berkshire experience

  • 5 of 5

A friend and I found this cabin to be even better than the accurate description in the listing. Yes, the cabin is vintage-but-updated with a great view and location. But it is also a space, inside and out, with the perfect ambience for a visitor who seeks comfort and beauty in the midst of glorious hills and woods. We weren't here to cook, but the kitchen is one where good cooking happens, so chefs will love it. The screen porch was our hangout when at home; probably the stone fireplace would be the centerpiece in winter. Jonathan is a thoughtful and skillful host. We recommend it most enthusiastically!

A beautiful view of the Berkshires with the screened in porch facing north east for experiencing glorious sunrises. The cabin is well-stocked with all the useful amenities renters need. Wonderful location -we would readily come back.

Just spent 3 wonderful days in the Berkshires. The cabin was the best part of the trip. Clean, well stocked, comfortable. The view was fabulous and the setting was quiet and relaxing. Highly recommend this cabin.

An absolutely wonderful retreat in the beautiful Berkshires

  • 5 of 5

We have just finished our second visit to Jonathan Rick's cabin in South Egremont. It is always sad to leave this romantic place. But we know we are coming back next summer for an extended stay. And that makes all the difference. The cabin is a perfect combination of cozy charm, proper amenities, spectacular views, the feeling of quiet seclusion, and a location that puts its lucky inhabitants just minutes away from many of the cultural and natural treasures the Berkshires have to offer. The town of South Egremont is comfortable and convenient - with shops and good restaurants. Our favorite is the Old Mill for dinner and Mom's Cafe (with "brookside dining") for breakfast or lunch. Great Barrington is a bustling place - about 10 minutes down the road. Make sure a stop a Guido's is on your list! And of course Lenox, Stockbridge, Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow, the Clark in Williamstown, the Colonial Theater in Pittsfield, Berkshire Theater Festival. Well, you get the idea. The cabin itself, with its big stone fireplace, wide plank floors and comfortable furnishings is a gem. And the frozen martini glasses waiting in the fridge have always made a great first impression. We recommend the cabin highly.

Beautiful, relaxing vacation.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed over 5 nights and, as my husband commented, it was really my vacation with family members dropping in as their work schedule allowed. The cabin is well kept and nicely furnished. The screened in porch, however, is the best room in the house from my perspective. It has a beautiful view over mountains and meadow. On the first afternoon in the house, I was reading on the porch when a rafter of turkeys passed through the yard. The kitchen is well stocked with lots of good knives, which in my experience is often a problem so much so that I frequently bring my own. No need here! The cabin is one in an association, but extremely private and comfortable. I was there for two nights alone and didn't feel any anxiety at all. Our Golden Retriever also enjoyed it on the nights she was there. She loved the meadow and the dirt road around the association was a perfect run in the morning for us.

The host, Jonathan, left excellent vacation ideas and we followed his advice each day for walks and hikes. We didn't eat out much, but I've been to several of the restaurants on his list and they're excellent as well.

Only two things missing in this house - a deck of cards (which we bought and left for future renters!) and a teapot, but really is that a big deal? - absolutely not! We really enjoyed our stay.
