Paradise for gourmets and for hikers: Baiersbronn is a paradise for gourmets: there is a total of six Michelin stars united in Baiersbronn, and one of the restaurants in Baiersbronn (“Traube”) is one of the Top Ten restaurants worldwide (according to the International Herald Tribune). The landscape here is the setting for one of the most beautiful vacation spots in the heart of Europe.
In Baiersbronn a multitude of opportunities for a varied holiday experience are available to active vacationers, as well as those in need of rest and relaxation - in close proximity to home. Each year during the most beautiful season in the Black Forest, namely from the end of July to the end of September, approximately 20 different hikes are organised, which are subdivided into four topical themes (family hiking week, the most beautiful trails in Baiersbronn, the waters of the Black Forest and rock formations).
Please contact Kathrin Gruber for further details. She will also provide you with a hiking map.
Kathrin Gruber: a mother of two in her 40's, is your hostess at the 'Golden Rooster'.
After studying business management and interior design, she attended the hotel management school 'Belvoir' in Zürich (Switzerland).
Andreas Gruber-Beck: is Kathrin's husband and is available for questions. Andreas is also responsible for the internet and the technique, so any questions you have, he is the person to ask.
Stefan Gruber: Stefan Gruber is Kathrin's brother. While he is not available during the week, he is available on weekends. He is a skilled piano player and will sometimes play for the guests, using the beautiful piano located in the room across the hall from the playroom.
Eric and Anna Gruber: Eric and Anna are Kathrin and Andreas' children. They are available to play and to show your children the best toys in the playroom!

We stayed in a one bedroom apartment in the main residence building, it had a small kitchenette (no oven - just a hob and microwave), a large shower room, a small bed in the entrance area and a pink sofa bed in the lounge. The apartment was clean and comfortable with a view across the valley to the Baiersbronn sign (from where the paragliders jump)!
One of the main selling points of this apartment is Frau Gruber, she is one of the most welcoming hostesses you could ever expect to meet. She speaks English and German and makes everyone feel at ease. She will even do your washing for a small fee! She provides the most excellent customer service!
Baiersbronn is a small town with plenty of supermarkets and smaller shops. The backerei just up the road (towards Penny) is very good (and inexpensive) and the staff are very friendly.
You get a Konus carte during your stay which permits free travel on local trains/buses (not ICE trains etc) in the Schwarzwald region. This carte is also a guestcarte and you may get discounts off some attractions in the region (e.g. Trier wasserfalle). It is a short walk down the hill to the train station (a steam train visits one Saturday afternoon per month - please see local magazines provided by the owner). There is also a children's play centre in the town.
The children loved the indoor pool and we saw younger children using the trampoline and facilities in the garden.
My family would recommend the smoked Black Forest ham available from supermarkets and in the Schwarzwalf Hofer speciality store in Klosterreichenbach (near Netto). If you fancy a pizza we would recommend Pizzeria Stöckeralm, Sankenbachstraße 121, just next to the cable car in Baiersbronn.
There is lots to do in the Schwarzwald region. We particularly enjoyed the rodelbahns (Gutach was the best) and our eldest children enjoyed the high rope tree top adventure at Enzkloesterle (which was cheaper then Go Ape in the UK). I was amazed when my daughter climbed the most enormous tree ladder and then zip wired right across the valley above the trees!
I would recommend this property to families wishing to stay in the Baiersbronn area.
Please note each time we have visited Baiersbronn some of the roads to the north of the town have been closed (in 2013 part of the 462 at Forbach was closed and this year the L83 Herrenweis road was closed at the 462 end) so be warned you may have to take alternate routes if travelling northwards.
