About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, Hot tub, Record Player, Close to River (Sleeps 2)

The 'Bon Fir Cabin' is a beautifully restored 1930's cabin located in the foothills of Mount Hood. It is just 43 Miles from the Portland airport, less than a mile from the Mount Hood Wilderness Area, and a three minute walk from the Zig Zag River. The original native fir floors, cedar siding and vaulted ceiling throughout help it retain it's historic charm. The cabin is fully equipped with a modernized kitchen, cozy wood stove, a queen bed, and a four person hot tub. The Bon Fir sits on a large wooded lot with plenty of room to relax.

The cabin has only one bedroom with a queen bed. The bathroom has a full-size front loading washer and dryer, and an antique clawfoot tub with a shower. The four person jetted hot tub is built into the deck to soak your bones after a long day of fun.

About Martin

I was born in Oregon and I like all kinds of outdoor activities. I hike, bike, surf, run, rock climb, ski, fish, raft, and camp. I write and play music. Nothing is better than great friends, great beer, and great food. I live in Portland, Oregon. Other than managing cabins, I work full time as an electrical engineer at Intel designing the worlds most advanced computer chips. I'm involved in several community gardens in NE Portland.

Martin purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Martin chose Mount Hood

I bought this cabin because I wanted a place close to Mount Hood and I love the outdoors. As soon as I walked inside I fell in love. The dark wood paneling and the vaulted cedar ceilings give the cabin a beautiful historic feel. The deck is huge and the hot tub is a great bonus.

What makes this cabin unique

I like to get a fire blazing in the wood stove and play games with friends. The tall trees and large lot give a sense of space that contrasts with my otherwise urban life. I like to play old records on the record player.

Oasis in the Mountains

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed in the Bon Fir cabin for her birthday. The cabin was cozy and provided all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay such as kitchen utensils, towels, and linens. Our stay was amazing! One of the best parts had to be taking a soak in the hot tub on the deck, with almost a foot of snow on the ground, then getting warm again by the wood stove inside. The record player was also fun and really provided that "cabin" feel. It was also very convenient to have multiple restaurants nearby when cooking wasn't happening cause we're on vacation! (The Zig Zag Inn was delicious and reasonably priced, we had breakfast for two with drinks for $20) We will def be staying here again! Thank you Martin for providing an authentic, cozy mountain cabin experience! Cabin Sweet Cabin!

Cute, Rustic, Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

The one thing you can count on with near certainty during the Thanksgiving Holiday in the Pacific Northwest is dismal weather. At least in the valley. So we decided to break with our family tradition and head to the mountains for the weekend this year to enjoy our feast, and get outside. Rain, snow, or (unlikely) sun. We were happy to have been able to book the Bon Fir for the weekend. We found it to be rustic, cozy, cute- quite comfortable for the four of us. Vintage, and full of character, the cabin is conveniently located a stone's throw from the Mt. Hood forest and all the adventures therein. We came prepared for X-country skiing and hiking. Though the weather teased of snow, there was just not enough. So we took a short drive to Tamawanas Falls Trail on Highway 35 and had a beautiful hike in the mist. We returned to the cabin and cooked up our Thanksgiving meal together while listening to vintage vinyl, and warming ourselves by the woodstove fire. It made for a memorable family weekend. Thank you for sharing your lovely cabin.

Perfection

  • 5 of 5

Been to Bon Fir four times and it's always the highlight of each trip home to see the family. Even got engaged there. This place holds such a special place in our hearts that I even got a tattoo of a sketched drawing I saw in the guest book on our last trip

Great relaxing getaway close to hiking at Mt Hood

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this original mountain cabin. It was better than we thought it would be. Kitchen was fully equipped. Bathroom had large claw foot soaker tub. There was washer/dryer which was much appreciated after long days hiking!! I really loved the old LP albums which included many of my favorite artists. Slept like a baby in the large queen bed. Very peaceful and relaxing and would highly recommend this property to anyone!
