Guestbook comments from the owner

I just wanted to write and say thank you sooo much for the opportunity to stay in your rental this past weekend (Oct 29th and 30th). I want you to know that your rental unit was just perfect in every way and I really wish that I was able to stay there longer. The hotel that we had to stay at down town was nothing in comparison to your space. Your rental really made me feel at home and the service and help you gave us on our first day there really made us feel welcome there! Thank you again and I want you to know that if Brent and I ever plan a trip to Boston again you are the first on our list of places to stay!!!

Great lodging option when in Boston

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I enjoyed staying at this quaint apartment. Cozy, clean and comfortable room, close to the T and close to the city attractions. Top floor room may be tough to get to for older folks with suitcases since stairs are narrow.Terrence was on top of emails and information requested. There is plenty of free parking nearby which was a plus. We felt safe walking around the neighborhood. No problems at all and would definitely stay there on our next Boston visit.

Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5

Loved staying here! We hand a private room with ensuite bathroom. We stayed in the Art room. It was full of antiques and treasures. We were an easy ten minute walk to the subway which was very convenient. Terrence was quick to answer any questions we had and was very accommodating. Highly recommend staying here!

best vrbo YET!

  • 5 of 5

We have used VRBO MULTIPLE TIMES and this was our favorite. Beautiful, large, clean, everything promised and more. We had a rental car and no trouble with parking...but a moderate walk gets you to the subway without a problem. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! PRICE WAS EXCELLENT VALUE!

Overall, it was OK

  • 3 of 5

My overall impression, is 3/5 stars.

Best: the Euro-dimensioned room really has everything you need except walking space. All basic amenities are supplied. Actually, more than you can imagine. Also, it is very close to the subway, a major plus. Very Clean. Terry, as everyone says, was helpful and friendly.

Cons: the room was tiny and movements of two people in the room requires some planning and orchestration.

The neighborhood had 2 significant drawbacks: The ad notes that it is

"racially, culturally and economically diverse," a euphemism for sketchy, with groups of "culturals" hanging out on dimly lit, isolated

street corners smoking weed. To be fair, we had no incidents but it didn't seem out of the question.

Secondly, there are virtually no eating choices nearby, necessitating either greater than a mile's walk or travel.

Smaller issue is the near-constant scream of sirens in the not-too-distant distance.

Given the great price in an expensive town, it is an overall positive. However, I would not return.

Owner's Response: Thank You Richard for your review! It will help future guests with making their lodging decision as VRBO and unique historic properties such as ours are not for all travelers. Many like to travel to Boise and have the exact same Disney experience as they have in Boston. They will not be happy here either. A few things I would like to point out to future guests. This is a historic property, many original details with modern upgrades for comfort and over 150 years old. The guest room you stayed in is one of the original bedrooms to the house and possibly the master bedroom! Modest in size, but not small. Boston has a huge European influence and if you have ever traveled to Europe and historic cities, this is the norm. Many in the US have become accustomed to McMansions and super sized everything, so our modestly sized, 300 sq foot rooms are not for them. In general most hotel rooms in Boston are modest in size. Our rooms I feel are perfectly sized as most guests are here to see the city and need a nice clean, comfortable place to relax. (Just an FYI we do offer full apartments here that are nicely sized for a little more $$. You chose our least expensive option.) I also would like to point out, Boston is a very multicultural city. Because of our world class universities, hospitals etc, Over 50 nationalities and Languages are spoken here. So if seeing "culturals" In the dark is "uncomfortable" and "sketchy" to you, hmmm, I just don't know how to respond except an urban area might not be for you. Also pot is legal here, so not sure how you equate that with crime, but that is your opinion and you are entitled to it. Boston in general is a safe big city and this neighborhood Fort Hill has many buildings selling for close to and over a million. This is an excellent Boston neighborhood, typical to other Boston neighborhoods that are not in the center of the tourist zone. It is not gated, Disneyfied and scrubbed clean nightly, you will get the real Boston experience here. Most real estate listings use terms to describe this neighborhood as, "Very Desirable, Sought after, Fort Hill". Real estate values have gone up 20-25% in the last year. I did want to correct your misinformation about proximity to restaurants. We have at least 25 and possibly more within a 1 mile radius and within walking distance. We provide lots of maps and guides as well as local restaurant suggestions in ever room. We are 1 mile to the South

Awesome hidden gem!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I were looking for a place to stay in Boston for a weekend getaway. We wanted an alternative to the expensive hotels, so we could spend our money on great food and seeing the city. This was a FANTASTIC option - very reasonably priced, and location was perfect - the house was a 3 minute walk to the T stop, and downtown Boston was a 10 minute metro ride away. We also used Uber and were able to hop around the city, never paying more than $15 for a ride. Exactly what we were looking for in terms of location and price. We did have a local tell us that the Roxbury Crossing neighborhood doesn't have the best reputation, but we had absolutely no problems walking to and from the metro at all hours.

Terry really did everything possible to make this a great place to stay. The bed was really comfortable, the linens and amenities (like coffee, shampoos and soaps, etc) were hotel-quality (or better), and the room was cosy and perfect for us. The owner has taken painstaking steps to make you feel at home - from handwritten maps, to personal suggestions for restaurants and things to see. Check in/check out was a breeze.

I absolutely recommend this place to stay for those who want to experience Boston but don't want all of their dollars paying for expensive hotels. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.
