Nice property but needs some things
This property met our families needs while traveling, but we had to figure out how to get things to work that were missing things. The dryer was missing the main knob and we couldn’t turn it to the cycle needed. The gas grill was out of gas when we went to grill our burgers. There were no wash cloths in the bathroom, only towels. Other than those things we enjoyed our stay.
Perfect rental property to stay at for us! There for a mountain top wedding. The property was super clean; modern, and very close to the gondola and other amenities. Very clear communications with this amenable Host!
very clean and well organized condo. Perfect location for access to the ski hill.
Brief but pleasant stay at the Aspens 24
We were very happy with our stay at the unit. Great views, large deck with a grill, and patio heater was a nice plus since it was very cold! No hot tub which neighboring units had but we knew this when booking and were fine with it. Not much difficulty getting our gear up the stairs to the unit and was well cleared of snow. Couldn't figure out how to get up to the trail easily so we wound up driving to the Kicking Horse parking lot each day which was close and easy with plenty of parking available. Almost figured out how to ski back down to the unit at the end of the day but not quite.
Inside the unit is very clean and feels like having your own vacation ski condo with nice decorations and a very large TV. Wasn't the easiest to figure out the TV/Cable controls but that was actually a good thing so my son wasn't glued to watching TV after skiing. Beds were very comfortable, heat worked well with individual controls in the rooms. Bathroom shower had a bit of a squealing sound when running but no big deal. Kitchen filled with plenty of useful appliances and easy to cook yourself a meal. Brendan, the owner, was also very responsive over email. For the money would consider the unit a very good value and hope to return someday!
One piece of advice for future visitors, wish we had stopped in town before we drove up to Kicking Horse to pick up groceries. The general store at Kicking Horse has some variety of food you can buy but not a whole lot. If you want to buy more than the basics you would need to drive back down to town about 20 minutes from the mountain (on somewhat windy snow covered roads) which we didn't bother to do since we were only there 3 nights.
Kicking Horse the mountain was great, wish we had some fresh snow but managed to find some leftover powder on the second day exploring the mountain in the Feuz Bowl dropping in from Redemption Ridge. Although there wasn't much fresh snow we still had fun on the groomers and never had to wait more than a minute to get on a lift, even the main gondola! Will definitely come back on a powder week and hit the more challenging terrain like Ozone next time.
In a nutshell this condo is for 2-3 people maximum. So for our family of 4 what we thought we were paying for was not what we received.
There is no bunk bed in the second bedroom as the pictures on the website indicate. There is also no pull out couch as the website pictures and "house rules" would indicate. there is a 1 piece couch - no bed.
The Deck/BBq were not accessible as the snow was not removed. All neighbouring units seems to have the use of their decks though.
We contacted the owner about the lack of pull out bed / couch and he stated " unfortunately, the couch is just that- a couch, not a pull out. Although, i suppose you could put sheets down and turn it into a bed." its not a bed.
Overall the pictures on the website are out of date and do not give a true indication of the number of sleeping accommodations.
Lastly, the bathroom fan continued to run even though it was turned off.
On the mountain
Rented for one week in autumn. Payment is 100% before you arrive and no refunds if you don't. No problems with owner, and damage deposit refunded promptly. Units are fairly close together. Sitting on the deck you can hold a conversation with both the lower unit people in their hot tub and the next unit cooking steaks. Noise from other units drift into condo and wife had trouble sleeping due to lower unit staying up into the night. Living space is small. Master bed completely fills the bedroom. No place for luggage. Appliances inside all worked. Limited pots and pans. Much food, toiletries, and equipment from the owners in the flat. Appearances make me think they just left the other day and expect to be back tomorrow. I guess a new experience for me, since I am used to properties that are primarily rented out. Here, I really didn't feel right touching anything. Outdoor Heater on the deck didn't work. Baseboard heat with controls for every room. Bathroom fan would not shut off. Sleep quality was average. Rooms were clean. Parking was not a problem. Decent drive up and down the mountain, but the result was good views all around. Close to YoHo and other NP of Canada. Did not use the TV. The bedroom clock ran fast, and we ended up pulling the plug. No iron or board. Places to walk to at Kicking Horse with restaurants and a few shops. Hiking and mountain biking available. Resort is sports orientated, and we were looking for a place to chill. Probably will not return.
