Overview

Valle Pura Vida Villa Rental Photos and Description

3 bedroom, 3.5 bathrooms, sleeps 6

Casa Añoro is one of the newest luxury homes in Manuel Antonio. Casa Añoro rests on one of the highest points in town in an exclusive community of multi-million dollar homes.

Añoro is a unique word with no direct translation. It is pronounced 'ahn-your-o' and in Spanish refers to deep desire for something missing in your heart.

Casa Añoro was designed by Michael Cunningham who has owned homes and managed dozens of properties in Manuel Antonio for many years, including the award winning CasaTolteca. His new home, Casa Añoro, will become his permanent home early 2016. In other words, this is your only chance to see Casa Añoro before it is taken off the rental market and becomes the owners personal home.

Because this will be his permanent home, Casa Añoro is filled with high end details. To preserve these high end touches, we do have a minimum age of 15 for any guest in the home.

Indoor / Outdoor Living:

Open the entire 20 foot wall of windows separating the indoor great room with the outdoor terrazza to give you almost 1000 square feet of great-room living area, completely covered by beautiful slabs of exotic coral stone flooring. Take two steps down to the pool area for even more lounging space.

Of course, the entire home does have air-conditioning, but you will probably never need it since the home was designed to capture the breezes and sweep them through the house.

Gourmet Kitchen:

The owners love to eat, drink, and entertain and have actually attended culinary school. The kitchen is equipped to please any chef. The 13 feet of counter space contains Bosch, Kitchen Aid, and Decor appliances. In addition, there is a 9 foot island to prepare and serve food. Of course, the wine refrigerator is also available for your use.

Limited Stairs:

Manuel Antonio is a very hilly town forcing virtually every home in town to have many stairs. However, Casa Añoro has all the essentials on one floor. Park your car and walk in the front door, the master bedroom, kitchen, living area, and outdoor terrazza are all on one floor making it handicap accessible. There are only two steps down to the pool level.

Ultimate Location:

Casa Añoro is located at the very end of a private road, overlooking the famous Gaia reserve. This means no cars, traffic, noise, or even other people will ever go past the home. You are in complete privacy surrounded by rain forest, our gardens, and acres of private nature reserve... yet you are just 2.5 minutes from the main road where you will find dozens of restaurants and small shops.

Huge panoramic ocean views stretch across the horizon allowing you to have perfect ocean sunsets every night, any day of the year.

Unique Pool:

With the corner or our infinity edge pool facing straight west up the coast line, you can daydream as you watch the surf breaking on miles and miles of shoreline. The large pool also includes a sitting area at the far edge where you can relax and enjoy the views while having a cool drink. Even the tiles in the pool are unique... made from imported light blue Italian glass with gold veins to catch the light.

After your stay with us, we know you will understand the meaning of 'Añoro' and your heart will always desire to return to Costa Rica and Casa Añoro.

About Michael Cunningham

After year's of traveling through Asia and Europe, Costa Rica was my first travel through the Americas. I quickly fell in love with the people and the incredible beauty of Manuel Antonio. I purchased my first home in Manuel Antonio in 2006... CasaTolteca.

After extensive renovations, I'm proud that I have made the award winning CasaTolteca the most rented home in town... unfortunately, that means I rarely got to visit. So a few years later, I purchased this property to build my retirement home.

Why Michael Cunningham chose Quepos

I now own several properties in town. I know virtually every house and lot in town. When this lot became available, I had to make it my home. It is truly unique... at the end of a private community. I own the property below it, the property above it, and everything in front of it is acres and acres of private reserve. Nobody will every walk or drive past this house. No buildings will ever be built anywhere near this property. The privacy and unobstructed views of the rain-forest and panoramic ocean views just can't be found anywhere else in town.

Guestbook comments from the manager

When it came to this home, my expectations were high. We stayed during New Years (when prices peak) so we expected to get a lot out of this experience. Fortunately, our expectations were not only met, but exceeded.

Dealing with Michael on the front end was easy. He was professional, quick to respond, and always ready to facilitate the rental. I especially appreciated this since it's the first time we've rented abroad.

Thomas, the concierge, was equally easy to work with. When we arrived, there was a refrigerator issue (which I can't fault them for because it was a high end refrigerator that just decided to be a jerk.) Thomas immediately brought bags of ice to keep the fridge cool and then somehow managed to get another refrigerator in the house within 12 hours. I was impressed, because sometimes things do happen, but it's rare they are handled with such professionalism and speed. It left a positive impression.

The house itself was gorgeous, the view panoramic. The hill up to it was daunting, but worth it. We appreciated having a 4 X 4. The kitchen was well stocked and we needed for nothing.

The best part was watching the rain forest wake up in the morning, being up with the birds. I'm not a bird watcher but I became one on this trip (if only because they were right there and I could be lazy about it). Some of the yellow ones (I'm obviously still learning names) dipped into the pool. The local Macaw flock was also fun to watch. I even caught myself bird watching from the shower, something that is not an option at home.

The pool area and comfy deck were a fabulous place to hang out and catch sunsets. Two iguanas (which we named B.G. (for big guy) and Ernestine) hung out daily. There was also a raccoon that visited nightly and behaved like, well, a raccoon.

I've tried to be even-handed, but I can't think of any helpful negatives (other than the drive up, which I've already admitted was worth it.) I would definitely stay here again, in fact, I'd jump at the chance. I am very grateful Michael chose to share his beautiful home.

Beautiful home away from the crowds

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely home high on the hillside in Quepos with a breathtaking view and wonderful pool. The home is air conditioned throughout, which was a big plus for us. One thing to note - the pool is very deep! I enjoyed working with Michael and Thomas, the house manager. Any questions were promptly answered. We enjoyed it so much, we will be back next year!

Owner's Response: I'm so happy you enjoyed staying in my home, Casa Anoro. As you know, I will be moving into the home as my permanent home in just a few months, so it is unlikely it will be available for rent when you are ready to come back next year. Of course, I do have some other great homes that will still be on the rental market, so I'm sure we can find something for you. As you mention, the pool is 5 foot deep throughout (except for the 6 x 6 sitting area), so really is not fit for young children which is one of the reasons why we do have a minimum age limit in the house. Maybe we can find a more shallow pool in the next home we find for you next year. I look forward to your return trip... Since I'll be living there by then, I'll be happy to have you up at Casa Anoro for a glass of wine.

You will not be disappointed

  • 5 of 5

We go to Costa Rica every year and love the country. We always rent homes but this is our first time in Casa Anoro. We wanted to try this new home while it is still available for rent. It did not disappoint!

I can highly recommend Casa Anoro for anyone staying in Manuel Antonio that wants to get away from the crowds and enjoy a peaceful, spectacular view. The house is about a 2 minute drive down a small road to the main road where there are plenty of restaurants. It's only another 5 minutes to the beaches and national park. I'd definitely recommend that you have a car since the house is very high up on the hill.

Because the house is so high up, the views are unbelievable! Nothing but trees and ocean as far as you can see. We took sunset photos everyday (they just seemed to get better and better every day). We never had to turn on the a/c. The breezes were always plentiful and kept the house comfortable all day.

We would book the home again next year, but the owner will be living in the house and the house will no longer be on the market. If you have the chance, don't pass up an opportunity to stay at this beautiful home. You will not be disappointed.

Owner's Response: We are very glad you enjoyed your stay. We won't be moving into the home until spring 2015, so there is still time to stay at Casa Añoro again for the first few months of next year. We would love to have you back again.

Specatcular Home

  • 5 of 5

We travel quite a bit and rent homes when possible. We've stayed in many homes around the world and Casa Anoro has to be one of the best, if not the very best. The beds were comfortable memory foam mattresses and the sheets were high quality which made for a very comfortable sleep. Double sinks in each bathroom gave us plenty of room to get ready each morning. The kitchen was huge and featured high end appliances. Even the gas grill was a unique infra-red grill. Cooking and preparing food was a treat.

The layout of the house was perfect, allowing us to cook in the kitchen while still being part of the rest of the group on the covered deck and others swimming in the pool. It felt like one large living area that we could all be together no matter what we each were sitting (or swimming).

I also have to mention the very cool pool light that slowly changes colors at night.

But the absolute best part of this house was the view! The house is located at the end of a private road with nothing but rain forest reserve and a huge panoramic ocean view in sight. Other than two rooftops in the distance, we couldn't see or hear any other neighbors. In a touristy town with hundreds of rental homes stacked up right next to each other, the privacy makes this home very unique.

The pictures of this home do not give it justice... it's really one of those homes you have to see to believe.

We hardly ever left the house and enjoyed watching the sun set into the ocean every night.

We thank the owner and his wonderful staff for letting us stay in his home. We will certainly be back one day.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying with us Jon and taking good care of our home while on your vacation. I'm glad you appreciated many of the luxury finishes we've added to the house to make your stay more comfortable. We are continuing to add more to the house and grounds over the summer including even more landscaping through the upper gardens and a huge hand-crafted dining room wall unit to showcase more artwork. Hopefully you have a chance to return to Casa Añoro to see the new additions before I move into the home permanently in spring 2015. We would love to have you back.
