"Kapoho Joes is absolutely the best rental in all our years coming to the islands! Homey and comfortable with everything we could imagine and more! We loved Gus the house gecko! The lanai is fabulous and ocean breezes and the sounds of the frogs and the ocean put us to sleep easily and we slept so peacefully - the house is truly blessed and a sanctuary.
Walking distance to Champagne pond, the tidepools, easy drive to the volcano, Hilo, Isaac Hale, the and we loved Pahoa - the most amazing place with every single restaurant we tried was fabulous food and surprising great value. Christmas Eve Mass at Sacred Heart, the flashlight vigil to the lava, mango ice cream on the lanai - great neighbors - it just couldn't have been a more perfect 8 days! We will be back for sure."
Very Comfortable, laid back setting and house. Great place to get away and relax.
When we arrived to stay for 5 days in this home, we were not too excited. It was tired looking, despite some basic updates like granite countertops and a stainless refrigerator. The beach chairs were weathered, as well as the kayak and bikes, although much of the snorkel gear looked brand new. We knew there was no AC and thought the breeze would be lovely, but I need to be honest and say our first night was miserable. We were hot and sticky inside the house, despite fans blowing on us from several directions. The bed in the master bedroom was small and too soft. In addition, that night I made brownies, only to have them infested by ants in about 15 minutes of sitting on the kitchen counter. This is an isolated home, near the tidal pools (very cool..had to drive to a different neighborhood to get to) and the Champagne ponds (also neat to swim in once we found a place to access them), but in the boonies. If you are looking to get away and don't mind being hot and sticky, it is a good choice. Neighbors were friendly, sharing coconuts with us. We were looking for a place to use as home base while we explored the east side of the Island and it was a bit too far from everything we wanted to do, except for the tidal pools. We ended up leaving after only 2 days. Now, I do not feel like anything was falsely advertised, and the management company was receptive when I called to let them know about the problems we encountered, assuring me she would arrange for pest control, but it didn't work out for us.
We recetnly got back from a wonder 3 day stay at Kapoho Joe's. Wish it had been longer. Loved relaxing on the Lanai, looking at the ocean. Great cooling sea breezes. Wonderful neighborhood esp. being able to walk or bike to the other ponds to swim and snorkel. Access to ocean only feet away tho we didn't swim there as it was a bit rough. Loved going over to the Tide Pools for the afternoon swim/snorkel. Also hit the Sunday market in Pahoa. My husband said the stay there was his favorite part of our 2 week Hawaii vacation. House is very well furnished, spacious, quiet, and so relaxing. Had snorkeling gear, beach towels, lots of other towels, dishes and cooking gear. and bikes. Would stay there again. Thanks.
We loved Kapoho Joe's. It was very relaxing and peaceful to be so near the ocean. The warm tide pools and the swimming and snorkeling were especially pleasant, and I also loved biking through the lovely community. Greg and I enjoyed the nearby Kalapana area, visiting Uncle Robert's for a real Hawaiian evening, with music, hula and food. There was a special feeling about your home and Kapoho that is hard to leave. Thanks again!
We stayed at the "beach house" and had a great time, was the high light of our Hawaiian vacation with our college age kids.... Plenty of beach time, bocci ball in the afternoon, dinner on the patio with the geckos... Swimming with the turtles in the pond was icing on the cake...We ran all over the island from the beach house and saw pretty much everything.... it was awesome. The house was neat and clean perfect for our family.
I felt like I was at home the minute I walked in. The view, cozy home feeling. Secluded enough for privacy and just a quick walk to the ocean front for a mind blowing view. a 10 min ride from town and the best food ever for many taste. Snorkel till your hearts desire. Quick ride to the national park-volcano and the heavy forest with native plants-birds and history center for the entire family. I am going back soon.
This rural area offers scenic beauty that most tourists miss. Kapoho Beaches is a gated community located on a turquoise -blue private bay about 9 miles from quaint, old fashioned Pahoa town. Unique Italian, mexican and Thai restaurants along with art galleries and shops are there. You can snorkel and swim in the thermally heated waters of Champagne Pond, Ahualanui Park or the marine preserve tide pools (1 mile), or surf the waters of Pohoiki Bay and Isaac Hale Park.(5 mi). We're just about 30 miles to Volcano National Park which makes a great afternoon trip to see the volcanic craters, museum and a huge lava tube that you can walk through. Or take the scenic Kalapana highway along the coast to the end of the road where lava covered the small town of Kalapana. At night view the clear star studded sky from the deck.
Visit the botanical gardens, orchid farms or see breathtaking waterfalls
