What makes this House unique
He house is located on a quiet cove, with a spectacular view. It is very conducive to relaxation and we sometimes find ourselves sitting on the deck each morning for a couple of hours with our coffee. Along with our water toys, (canoe, kayaks, pedal boat) there are tennis courts, pickle ball court and a large park for games.

Nice camp on peaceful cove
We enjoyed our stay over Labor Day weekend. House was as described and the cove was a great place to swim and float. Snack shack at the dock is a great feature. There is no wi-fi at the house, which could be an issue for some visitors. I missed that detail when reviewing the property description.
Quick vacation before everyone heads back to college
This property was perfect for our family trip! The adult children got the downstairs and could come and go as they wanted with their own entrance. Very quiet cove and close to Bridgewater Plaza. Thank you for a relaxing vacation.
Great location - not many other positives
The house is a great location for driving and boating to various destinations. The cleanliness of the house was sorely lacking and lessened our opinion of the house.
Upon arrival, we found the house to be dirty. The musty smell was so strong that we had to air the house out and go purchase candles, air fresheners and odor neutralizers. The lower level bedrooms and bathroom had cobwebs and dust in the corners. The ceiling fans in the upper level bedrooms were coated in dust and obviously had not been cleaned in some time. The outdoor furniture was too dirty to sit on or eat on.
The house has a staircase to the basement which is open and is not safe for a toddler like our grandson who was with us. We had to sit chairs around the opening to deter him from going near the steps.
Our second night there, we opted to cook in. There were dirty pots and dishes in the cabinets and evidence of mice in the cabinets and drawers. We ate the rest of our meals out.
The kayaks had to be cleaned before we could use them because of cobwebs, spider nests and debris. We did not use the Snack Shack, the floating dock or the upper level dock because of the condition.
The owners were very responsive prior to our arrival but when I emailed them about the cleanliness, suggesting that they may want to discuss it with their cleaning service, I did not receive a reply.
I took pictures of the house in the event that the owners wanted to address it with their cleaning service.
We will not rent this property again.
I'm sorry that our lake house did not meet her expectations. I knew immediately when I got the first call from this renter that she was a troubled person. Therefore I chose not to answer her call as she was complaining about spider webs on the deck. In all the years that we have rented the lake house we have gotten back positive reviews. Therefore, after reading all the angst in her review I would never rent to this person again.
Perfect Weekend Stay!
We did a long weekend at Making Memories and the whole experience was amazing! The location is great for a group: the cove allowed us to all float in tubes, or scoot around on the Wimmer's paddle boat. We rented a boat and jet ski through Captains Quarters and it was only moments drive away (by boat) and maybe 10/15 minutes by car. The best day was really staying at the dock, taking turns on the jet ski or just swimming around.
The house layout was perfect for 4 couples with 2 bedrooms and one bath upstairs and 2 bedrooms and one bath downstairs. It was a hot weekend but the A/C and ceiling fans kept us very comfortable while inside. The kitchen was fully stocked and we cooked all of our meals in the house. I gave 3 stars for cleanliness simply because it is what it is: a lakehouse! We expect some bugs, some debris, nothing was offensive and it worked for us.
I would might be a little cautious with bringing younger children as there are a lot of stairs and an open staircase to the basement. For an adult get-together, it was great and we hope to return every summer!
If I had a question, Ann responded quickly and was super kind. Checkin and checkout was a breeze.
Thanks for all the wonderful memories!
These folks were excellent renters and I would definitely rent to them again. I do hope they return.
This is my second time staying at this property. The location is fantastic; it is secluded enough, but a short ride to the main area of the lake. The house fit my group of eight perfectly, and the multiple docks at the water were spacious and great for hanging out. The owners are very nice and easy to work with. I would definitely recommend it.
Thank you so much for your review. I think you just described our Cove and lake house perfectly. We look forward to you coming again. Thanks Jack and Ann Wimmer
Great family get together
Our time at the lake was wonderful. The house is situated at a perfect location- on a quiet, peaceful cove. We spent most of our time swimming, fishing or just relaxing on the dock or deck. The house was quite large and had everything we needed. We hope to come again.
There are several restaurants, shops, theater, and marinas located on the lake at, West Lake and surrounding area. Also there is live theater, museums, and shopping in Roanoke, Va which is approximately 35 miles away. Bedford, Va is about 20 miles from the lake house and infamous World War II Memorial Park as well as other historic sites.
