About the property

Condo, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

Kanaloa at Kona is the nicest resort on the Kona Coast. It sits on an ancient Lava flow that juts out into the Ocean about 1/2 mile, thereby separating the resort from the noise and traffic of Alii Drive. All the other resorts in town sit right on Alii Drive. The resort is beautifully manicured and is surrounded by the Ocean on one side, and the Kona Country Club Golf Course on the other. Due to the integrated design and low density of the property, it has the feel of "Old Hawaii", as opposed to condo or apartment blocks with a few palm trees spread around.

The resort is a gated community with three lovely pools and hot tubs and a front desk with a very helpful concierge on duty to assist you. The Kanaloa at Kona oceanfront restaurant is again open for service, providing fine oceanfront dining in Keauhou at the water’s edge. There are enough world class beaches up and down the coast for you to explore a different one each day!

The condo was upgraded in 2013. Everything is new including the furniture, Koa wood kitchen cabinets, granite countertops, lanai furniture, linens, etc... The condo also has vaulted ceilings in every room giving it a very large open feel. There are three lanais in unit.

The spacious main lanai is oceanfront off of the living room and the two back lanais are off of the master bedroom and guest bedroom facing the mountains. We keep the condo stocked with snorkels, masks, fins, boogie boards, floaties, beach towels and a cooler so you're ready to start your vacation as soon as you check in!

You have several dining options. You can enjoy meals with seating for four at the glass table in the dining room or you can enjoy your meals oceanfront on the main lanai. You can also dine at the small table for two in the kitchen.

The spacious kitchen provides guests with all of the amenities and appliances to create gourmet meals right in the condo. Hawaiian Koa wood cabinets, tiled floors and granite countertops compliment this large, open kitchen with lots of cabinets for storage.

Perfect home base for our Big Island vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We really like staying south of Kona Town and have stayed in this complex before because of it's convenient location. This unit overlooks a little bay and is nice and private. Very close to one of the pools and we took advantage of the hot tub after biking several times. There's a grocery, post office and several places to eat within minutes. The complex is very well maintained and the staff are friendly. Other positives worth mentioning: great to have access to a washer and dryer, the kitchen is well-equipped and we were able to prepare many of our own meals, the owner provided chairs, towels, a cooler and other items that made going to the beach easy. The owner was very responsive and easy to deal with from the beginning of our communications. We would definitely stay here again. We loved our stay in Hawaii and this condo was a big reason why.

Wonderful View, Comfortable Condo

  • 4 of 5

The first impression of this property was "Wow, we are so much closer to the water than the VRBO Picture showed!" The location of this Condo is fantastic both within the property and for discovering the Island. The pools and tennis courts are right there and so is the BBQ. Even at Christmas it didn't feel crowded, and if one of the pools was a little full for your liking, you could go to one of the other two ( one is adults only which can be nice...). The Condo itself feels nice and airy, and the kitchen was equipped well. I was particularly happy with the coffee grinder! The rest of the Condo, as mentioned below, could use a facelift, but I found after a couple of days it was just starting to feel like home...It was great to have a cooler and boogie boards. Some of the beach stuff is getting worn, but still usable - I would recommend a new beach umbrella. Overall, this was a nice Condo and well priced and I am glad that we were able to stay over Christmas. A special thanks to Rita for quickly responding to a minor issue that was resolved quickly. And a big thank you to Steve for putting up your Condo - Mahalo!

Beautiful view great location

  • 3 of 5

We love Kona and enjoyed the location and view of this condo, sitting out on the deck in the morning was wonderful. The owner was very helpful when we had a couple of issues with the plumbing and AC ... There was plenty of beach gear and the kitchen was stocked well. The resort has lovely pools and tennis courts that are steps away from condo. The place does need some work though carpets and bathroom upstairs need to be replaced also the place is need of a thorough cleaning. We had a great vacation and love Kona!

Comfortable Condo

  • 4 of 5

While these condos have some age to them, they are well maintained. From the groundskeepers, to the maintenance and housekeeping these people are as friendly and helpful as anyone could want.

We have stayed in different locations on the Big Island and we were curious how the geographic location of this condo would be for the activities that we normally arrange.

We were very close to the coffee farms and at least an hour closer to the Southern end of the island. Arriving 2 days before the Ironman competition this location was convenient for accessing the south side of the island as the main roads going north are closed on the day of the race.

This condo is located close to shopping as well as one of the local farmers markets. This condo has a well equipped with a nice variety of cooking utensils.

The only issue that we had with this condo was the filter for the ventilation system was extremely dirty and needed to be replaced. After searching at various stores we were able to find a replacement, remember you are on an island and some things just are not so easy to find.

There are a fair number of stair flights to climb to get into and within this unit, so if you have difficulty climbing stairs this place may not be well suited for your needs.

Overall we were happy with choosing this property and it shall remain one of our choices for the future.

The perfect spot for your Big Island holiday!

  • 5 of 5

We were so happy with our stay. The hosts had provided beach gear for us to use which was perfect as we were able to use this rather than bring our own or hire! Having a rental car gave us the freedom to drive around the island and return to the quiet Outrigger complex and make use of the facilities there. It really did feel like a home away from home with a gorgeous view from the lanai. Plenty of space for the kids too so we didn't feel like we were crowding each other, very important when traveling with teens! Thanks again for allowing us to stay in your lovely condo! We would happily recommend this property to families as a perfect base for your big island holiday!

Nice unit in good location

  • 4 of 5

The unit is spacious, but in the hot summer AC is a must. We would have been uncomfortable without the AC in July. There is a little bay that the unit overlooks and it had the best snorkeling we found on both the Big Island and Maui which we visited both on this trip. The Kona coffee plantations are very close. The volcano is flowing again and should be a must see trip, but go over to the county side and rent a bike at the end of the day so you can get all the way to the lava and pole it yourself with a stick, but wear shoes not flip flops or they will turn you back. The Green Sand Beach by South Point was worth the bumpy ride, and we saw people jumping into the blue hole at South Point as well.
