5 star reviews!
La Torre consists of a charming studio space with a 15 sq. meter terrace, a bathroom with shower, a double bed and a kitchenette. (second private bedroom with private available, for up to 4 persons total)
It is a beautiful walk to the Alhambra palace through the lush gardens surrounding it. Downtown, entertainment, Arab spas and a large variety of restaurants are also just a short walk away.
The apartment is well communicated by bus and taxi to the rest of Granada or other cities in the region.
Thre is excellent skiing just 40mins drive away at the Sierra Nevada Ski resort. All equipement rentals (including pants, jacket goggles etc) are available in Granada.
Smoking allowed on the terrace only.
Street parking available from 100-400 meters down the road.
I am truly grateful to all of the wonderful, interesting people/families that have come and shared their stories and precious moments appreciating our little paradise here on the hill.
My wife, Fina and I bought and reformed the house in 2006. I am a designer and she is a social educator. Together we resolved the living spaces to function well socially and with great natural light. There are high ceilings and traditional clay
terra cotta floor tiles most everywhere.
Fina Moreno purchased this studio in 2005
Discovering the Albaicin 20 years ago I was overwhelmed by it's incredibly human charm, ancient soul and village-like tranquility.
The winding walking streets, flower filled balconies and open-air veggie markets take you in as a welcome visitor. Then of course, the Alhambra Palace is a must-see and the terrace has on of the very best views of it.
The stunning view is probably the most memorable aspect of our place but the village-like tranquility and close proximity to local markets, restaurants and live music help to complete the experience.
Now THAT was and enrichening experience! Charming and unique apartment.
had everything we needed. Small but plenty of space and well organized for a week visit. Did plenty of walking and thats what its all about...taking in the old world charm surrounded by beauty, music and the chit chat of the locals.
The area was vibrant with life, flower filled balconies, street musicians...lots of Flamenco made it an especially "Granadino" experience! We would highly recommend a visit here in La Torre.
Review is WOEFULLY overdue!!!! (Oct 14 not 15)
My husband, aunt and myself stayed here all of Oct 2014 and between work,
and unexpected life happenings after our trip the review kept getting put off!
Believe them when they say it’s best not to bring a car in if you don’t need one.
Coming into Granada, with the streets shrinking as you get further into the
‘center’ it’s quite easy to get ‘stuck’ - literally - as we nearly did. Taxis are plentiful/cheap.
We made day trips and overnights to other places and returned here as 'a hub'.
The view of the Alhambra and the courtyard was perfect to sit outside and have breakfast, lunch or dinner. It was small and compact, cozy and had everything we needed!
We also had friends from Portugal meet up with us and they joined us there for cocktails and tapas. Their last night in Granada we played guitars and sang late into the evening.. under the plump fig tree - where in the morning you would see (and hear) the fattest, most well-fed doves you’ve ever seen!! (beautiful!)
I also took the flamenco class with Fina as a 'one on one'. (Some friends wanted to join me but our schedules didn’t mesh). Greg plays guitar and Fina teaches Flamenco dance along with the ‘clapping’, singing and ‘timing’ that is so different from the 'Western way’ (based on divisions of mostly 4 beats per measure).
She is an excellent ‘intuitive' teacher who sees where you are and adjusts methods accordingly. It was ‘work’, good work! Between walking everywhere and the week of Flamenco i easily lost 10 lbs. We’d work for a couple of hours, then have an amazingly tasty, healthy lunch, with organic homemade wine (if you wanted) or tea. Every lunch was completely heavenly. With the freshest ingredients and thoughtful combination of flavors. Then finish with good coffee or tea, then back to Flamenco for another hour or so.
At the end of class we watched several wonderful videos of authentic Flamenco which really referenced the social ‘importance’ and ritual of this art form.
And again had wonderful food prepared by Fina and Gregg and my aunt joined in the wonderful experience.
Greg and Fina were wonderfully helpful in so many ways, from an occasional out of the way ‘drive’ here - to making a couple of important phone calls - (non us were fluent in Spanish).
As hosts, as ‘teachers’, as people they really went 'above and beyond' in so many ways … I just can’t say enough about them and their warm hospitality and all around ‘good-natured’ ways!!
All was a delight. Charming pad perfectly situated with spectacular view of the alHambra....Greg was helpful and welcoming. We had a lovely time.
We were so pleased to find the photos and reviews were right on the mark. The place was cozy with the necessities nicely lined up. The views never failed to impress us. We loved exploring the neighbourhoods with all the bars, restaurants and markets. Greg was very helpful. We had a great Granada experience.
My wife and I loved this place! very cozy and has an Incredible view! Everything was within walking distance. Gregg was amazing - knowledgeable and extremely friendly. Always willing to help and give you tips. Take note, this place is in the hills so walking is absolutely necessary, but If that's your thing - which it is for me - this is a great place for you!
Enjoyed two+ days in Granada using this small, but excellent apartment as our base. Greg is super responsive to emails and helpful in every way. View of Alhambra from the terrace was a highlight. Not for the unfit, as you cannot drive to the apartment, nor take a taxi.
My husband and I stayed four nights in April. First, there's no place like Granada...it was our favorite city during our trip to Spain. And the view gifted to you in this apartment will literally take your breath away! It is simply stunning. Greg is super friendly and responsive; we had a slight problem with a sink drain and he tended to it immediately. We love to walk, which is good, because there's a LOT of it to do, including up and down rather steep, cobblestone paths. The apartment location is wonderful for exploring this amazing region. The unit itself is quite small and narrow, but generally well laid out. It's quiet for sleeping. I think the apt. could use a little TLC, we noticed some water damage near the top of the entry ceiling, and a bit of a smell that could've been related to that. Maybe some salt & pepper would be good to have on hand, and a new frying pan. But all and all, it was a great stay. Thank you, Greg!
The Alhambra Palace is a must see (15 min walk) and there are many outdoor activities available...
Mountain biking, hiking, snow skiing, snorkeling, sailing, summer outdoor concerts, numerous tapas bars with great ambience and great prices, wine tasting bars, Flamenco shows, jazz festivals, monasteries, Arab bath spas...to name a few!
