About Chris and Cori

We are a family of 4 from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Cori owns/operates a private yoga studio and often brings clients/small groups to Samara where she hosts amazing yoga retreats. My name is Chris and was a former minor pro hockey player who now works in oil/gas accounting in Calgary. Our children both play hockey and soccer and enjoy travelling to Samara so that they can surf, go beachcoming and play at the pool.

Chris and Cori purchased this condo in 2008

Why Chris and Cori chose Guanacaste

The main reason we bought this property was clearly for the ocean view as well as for the quick access to the beach and town. We travelled to several other countries in search of a vacation home and quickly fell in love with Costa Rica. After spending two vacations visiting many beach towns down the pacific coast we realized that Samara was by far our favorite place to be. It's a quaint surf town with all the necessary amenities and great restaurants we were looking for, and the reef protected waters make swimming very safe for our young family. And as we've all discovered, it's a perfect beach to learn to surf!

Great place to stay! Better than pictures!

  • 5 of 5

The owners were very responsive and provided lots of information prior to our arrival. When we got to the condo we met Nick and the cleaning lady (Evelyn). Both of them were so hospitable and welcoming. The place was super clean and was even better than the on-line photos. There were so many extras throughout the condo that made our stay even better. We all LOVED the pool (especially the kids) and the views were simply amazing. The walk down to the beach was no problem but if you want to bring a lot of stuff with you it might be easier to drive otherwise I would suggest early morning walks to the beach. Our only problem was that we didn't see any howler monkeys from the condo but we sure heard them. When we come back we will stay here again.

Wonderful spot in Sámara

  • 4 of 5

We, a couple in our 40s, stayed at this Veneto Condo unit for a week in February, 2015.

Upon arrival, there were a couple of very minor glitches re: cleanliness, but Nick, the property manager, was very quick to sort those out for us.

This unit is just as described. The views from the living space are amazing - sweeping views of the ocean, sky, landscape and town. The condo unit was more than the two of us needed - two well-appointed bedrooms, 2 bathrooms each with shower, kitchen (no oven, but we weren't there to bake :)), and comfortable, spacious living space. There was even in-unit washer and dryer, although we didn't need to use them.

The air conditioning cooled the place down nicely. The back entrance was a nice spot to watch monkeys in the morning. The pool area was even nicer than the photos let on. There were plenty of lounge chairs, and the ocean views magnificent. The pool was kept clean, and the friendly caretakers were available to start the waterfall upon request.

The condo is within easy walking distance to town and the beach, but we usually took a cab home in the dark (~$2 US) as the roads back up were a bit tricky to navigate.

The only things we could possibly have wished for were a slightly softer mattress, and a balcony to enjoy in the evenings, to watch the sunset.

The owners were very helpful over the phone and via email, and payments and reimbursements went smoothly. Did I mention what a star Nick, the manager was? (there you go, Nick!) No, really, he was readily available to answer any questions and helped us out immeasurably during our stay.

Overall, we would highly recommend this unit as a comfortable, convenient place to stay in the Sámara area.

Amazing view and great location

  • 4 of 5

The pics are true! The view from the large wall of windows is breath-taking. An easy walk to the beach or in to town (a little tougher walking home as it is quite up hill. No really --QUITE up hill!) The exercise is good for you.

The driveway up is a little rough and steep but not unusual for Costa Rica. Water pressure was really poor sometimes. Biggest downfall was the lack of private outdoor space. But the beautiful common pool area mostly made up for it.

Make sure you take the time to explore neighbouring Carrillo beach. Loveliest beach we have ever seen. Lonely Planet was right!

We would use this facility again. Thank you Nick for your casual availability.

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

We loved the condo. The property managers were very friendly and helpful, as were the parking lot security guards. It is a very short walk to probably the nicest beach we have ever been to. The property has a private pool with a fantastic view. We happened to be in Costa Rica while the Olive Ridley turtles were nesting, if this occurs while you are visiting we highly recommend it. If you are interested in a fantastic zipline tour, Wingnuts is also a very short walk from the property.

One thing I would like to pass on is that the roads are paved all the way from the Liberia airport to the condo, but if you plan on taking any excursions I would recommend renting a four-wheel drive vehicle as some of the roads in Costa Rica are a little on the rough side.

Overall, we loved our stay and plan on returning in the future.

nice place, but a bit missrepresented

  • 4 of 5

i stayed with my girlfriend at the apartmen for 4 nights.

samara beach and the place is nice overlooking the beach.

you can walk to the beach or stay at the pool (good with kids).

for us it was a bit complicated to talk to the owner in canada, talk with a agent in costa rica and a representative to open us the apartment. we should call them on the way, even tough we did when we were 1h away - but this is hard with no cell phone reseption or public phones...

the pictures here on vrbo are really nice, but we think you should know:

it is an apartmentcomplex with about 25 apartments. mostly foreigners were buying it, but it is not finished yet and only approx 5 apartments are occupied. builders are working everywhere on the property which was not a problem, but work was a bit anoying during our siesta lunch break.

the walk to the beach and town is nice. try to be there in the dry season

Owner's Response: Thanks very much for your feedback. We appreciate all feedback we receive - both good and bad - and aim to use these comments whenever possible to make improvements to our guest's stay. I have just spoken directly with my property manager to ensure that I'm able to accurately respond to your concerns. Our property manager lives in Samara - only minutes from our building. Once we (as owners) have confirmed a reservation, all communication is between our guests and our property manager. They communicate directly with our guests to ensure that their check in is as smooth as possible as well as deal with any unforeseen changes that may occur to their travel schedule. We see this as the simplest and most efficient way of checking our guests into our condo. Our property managers have never received a complaint regarding their check in process. Once our guests have finalized their travel plans in Costa Rica they are asked to send an email with their estimated time of arrival in Samara. This enables our property manager to ensure our condo is completely ready for check in. If possible, guests are asked to phone when they are approximately 1 hour from Samara so that our property manager can arrange to meet them at the building gates when they arrive. In the future, I will ensure that our property manager mentions that guests who do not have access to a cell phone should ask to use our security guards phone upon arrival at the building. We have absolutely no intention of trying to 'misrepresent' our condo. Based on your comments this appears to be a concern about the building - not specifically about our condo or it's view. The building is made up of only 17 units - mainly owned by foreigners such as ourselves. The building has four levels - our unit is on the third level. At least 7 units are complete. I have pictures of our building taken from the ocean that would help guests see what the building as a whole looks like. Recently there has been construction going on with the interiors of some of the remaining unfinished units - including the one next to ours. We suspect that they must almost be finished. We have worked with the HOA to ensure that construction only takes place during certain hours (days) and that penalties have been put in place for non-compliance to these rules. We have done everything we can to minimize the impact this has on our guests. We are not aware of any construction going on at this time in public areas. Thanks!

Un appartement confortable avec une vue unique !

  • 5 of 5
