Do you feel like experiencing history? Dating to before 1460, what you'll find here is tradition meets history. Tradition meets history. Indulge yourself in a different experience! Our new holiday home, renovated in 2013, is located on the third floor (though here, it's marked as the 4th floor, similar to the American convention). It sleeps a maximum of 4, and is a unique experience. Even if there's just two of you looking for separate bedrooms, our holiday home can be booked by parties as small as two! If you are a smaller group, please inquire about pricing and/or our other holiday homes in the same building. The furnishings are just fabulous, and the location is incomparable. You'll get out of bed and find yourself in the historic centre. The centre of Freiburg's life, including Augustinerplatz and the Spanische Treppe, is yours to see and enjoy. You'll also hear some of it, but the rooms face the water. Let the waves lull you to sleep, even while you're in the middle of the town. Cafés, bars, restaurants, beer gardens, cinemas, theatres, and several museums: you won't want for anything. The Black Forest, Alsace, and Switzerland are just around the corner. Our invitation to you: Magical, idyllic, and romantic - those are the first words that come into people's minds when they arrive in Freiburg im Breisgau. That is just how we want our guests to feel with this holiday home. Built before 1460, our house is situated in the middle of Freiburg, right where the action is. History and modernity meet here. Wooden floors meet hot tubs, double-glazed lattice windows meet steep stairs. The holiday house is situated on the third floor with a view of the Augustinerplatz and, of course, the Münster cathedral. The flat is comfortably furnished with a fully equipped kitchenette. You won't want to leave the comfortable dining area and sofa. We're happy to greet you as our guests. Our one condition is that the house is non-smoking, we can compromise on other points. Our holiday home is set up to accommodate up to 4 people. The bedrooms face the back of the property, towards the Gewerbekanal. You will hear flowing water and feel as if you were off in the country. The large bedroom is ravishing, featuring a French-style double bed (160x200 cm), and comfortable furnishing. A small sitting area is ideal for relaxation. The small bedroom has a pull-out double bed (twice 80x200 cm), with two split mattresses. One person can sleep comfortably here, or two if you pull out the bed fully. Larger individuals may have some close encounters with the low beams and ceilings, which they may not be used to. This is a natural feature of an old house, from a time when people were smaller. A washing machine and tumble dryer are available. You won't have an elevator, but you will spend your nights in historic bedrooms. Bed linen and towels are provided, and there are some little surprises here and there as tokens of our appreciation for our guests. Even if your visit is strictly business, you'll feel right at home here. We are a family, and our guests are welcome to take part in our family. If that is what you are looking for, you've found your objective! We look forward to meeting you! Daniela Lanig and Karlheinz Ruf PS: The easiest way to get in touch with us is at our office. Why this property? Because it's where we live, and exactly where we'd want to live. You'll see - we're right.
We love our house and we want to share that love. Shear walls, creaky balconies, low ceilings, and an obsession with right angles are not everyone's thing, but we do love them.
Don't stay anywhere else, honestly there are not enough positive adjectives in the English language to describe this very charming apartment, it is absolutely delightful and in the most beautiful part of Freiburg.
You won't be disappointed, the owners are such very nice people and the furnishings of the apartment are exquisite and is decorated with such attention to detail.
The whole place is immaculately clean, comfortable and outfitted with all modern appliances.
We arrived just before a long weekend and the owner Daniele was so attentive and placed bread and other food basics including a lovely cheesecake in the fridge for us until we could buy groceries.
We enjoyed a wonderful week in Freiburg and yes I had read a review before booking that the location was noisy but we are glad we didn't let it sway us as this was not the case at all.
If anything we enjoyed seeing young people enjoy themselves at the Augustiner Platz and their behaviour was respectful and shut down at an appropriate time.
We definitely recommend this gorgeous apartment and we for certain will return.
Thanks again Daniele and all the very best for you and your family.
Liz, Bob Bloos from Canada and Jay from UK.
The apartment is in the old part of Freiburg, a few minutes walk from the cathedral square and overlooking a lively platz where many young people gathered each evening to socialise making it feel it was really in the heart of things. Nearby were a fantastic selection of restaurants and a beer garden so if you are after a slice of city life this place is perfect. We spent most days in the Black Forest and fantastic hiking and cycling trails are only an easy 40-60 mins drive away. Europa park is ~1hr and Titisee is a sort of seaside resort on a lake approx 45mins - great for a baking hot day.
Although in an old building the apartment has been renovated to a high standard and is very modern. It does rather remove any sense of the history of the building but it has been furnished very nicely with antique furniture mixed with modern. There was plenty of room for a family of four but both bedrooms are doubles so the kids had to bunk in together. The bedrooms are at the back so noise from the square doesn't bother you at night.
Daniela met us at the door and helped get us unloaded before guiding us to the carpark (this is a short walk away in a public car park - approx 90 Eu for the week) and then gave me a brief but comprehensive tour of the area near the apartment to help get us quickly orientated. She lives in the apartment below and is very helpful but not intrusive. In short, it was a very comfortable and easy place to live for the week and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Recommended.
This was our first time to Freiburg and I must say we really loved this little city. The apartment is located right in the center of the Altstadt (pedestrian zone) surrounded by great restaurants and lovely little boutiques. Its front door faces a plaza which every night is packed with hundreds of college students sitting on the steps talking but the bedrooms are facing the back so its very quiet for sleeping. Our teenage daughters loved the action right outside the windows ... great people watching. The apartment itself is very spacious with a modern eat in kitchen, a separate dining room plus also a large living room besides the two back bedrooms. The bathroom is super modern with a fabulous shower and jucuzzi tub. The Munsterplazt with its giant cathedral is only a three minutes walk away and has a farmer's market on most mornings where you can buy fresh bread, pastries, fruits and veggies plus other random items. The train station is about a 15 walk and a five minute street car ride away so it was easy to get in and out of the city for outings.
The owner was super nice and always helpful with information as well. I would for sure stay here again when in Freiburg.
We were four adults enjoying a long weekend with lots of visits to pubs, restaurants, and markets - in that order!. The apartment is ideally situated in the old town and other options for enjoying history and culture are directly at hand. The owner was very courteous and hospitable and we are grateful for that. We will not hesitate to book the apartment on our next visit to Freiburg.
The apartment is very attractive, perfectly situated in the old city, and well furnished for travelers' needs (and beyond).
We were traveling to Freiburg to visit our son who is doing a semester abroad there. Our oldest daughter was with us and we all loved the apartment. It is very well maintained and quite beautiful. The bedrooms are quiet, roomy and well thought out (e.g. she has small lights placed within reach so we didn't need the reading lights we usually use when on the road). The kitchen is welcoming and well stocked with travelers in mind and the living space is relaxing and attractive.
The location was ideal for seeing the very charming old city and provided easy access via tram for our son to join us for dinner. We were steps to beer gardens, restaurants and the fantastic outdoor market. We took side trips to France, Switzerland and throughout Germany and had a short walk to the parking garage.
Unexpected extras included a soaking tub (perfect after an alpine hike) in the spotless bathroom that had a separate shower, and a washer and dryer in the unit.
Our hostess lives in the same building so we felt she was available if we needed her and she was very welcoming. It is hard to combine so much beauty with so much practicality - she has done it!
Close to everything in old town. Daniela was very accommodating and gave us clear instructions on how to best take advantage of the suites amenities. Kitchen was well equipped and the place is beautifully renovated . Iwould definitely stay here again
