TAMARACK LAKE ESTATE is really more like a resort than a house. You get so much provided for your vacation. Most people come to Cape Cod to gaze at the ocean. But what if you could be at the ocean beach for hours on end, and two minutes later go home to a luxurious lakefront estate a few blocks away? Imagine the enjoyment of having the best of both worlds -- the sandy beaches of Cape Cod Bay and the sparkling clear waters of a spring-fed 376-acre glacial 'pond.' (One guest described it as a Lake Tahoe/Cape Cod vacation.) In this amazing spot, you'll have privacy, recreation, and comfort in a setting graced with sparkling waters, towering pines, brick paths and patios, decks, private sandy beach, dock, and boathouse -- even before you encounter the incomparable home itself.
The home is VERY well provisioned, with nice linens, top of the line appliances , cookware, spices, condiments, baking needs, soaps, paper goods, laundry supplies, Tamarack has wireless Internet, digital cable TV, an extra wet-bar kitchen to serve the Great Room, kayaks, canoe, swim platform, dock, boathouse, water toys, life jackets, – private waterfront beach and fire pit, Great Room patio also has a fire pit, there is a barbeque patio, picnic area.
BEDROOMS AND SLEEPING SPACES

-waterfront QUEEN bdrm with luxury bathroom
-waterfront 2 FULL beds berm (next year 2017 this will be changed, please ask)

-main floor bdrm QUEEN bedroom with Tudor style tester canopy bed
- Great Room loft with SINGLE bed /could have 3-4 sleeping bags on padded, carpeted floor
Tamarack has a beautiful gathering room, tastefully decorated in restrained Nantucket style, a place to converse or watch TV. From here, enter the sleek mini-kitchen outside the Great Room. The Great Room, added to the house in the '90s, has a 22-foot stone fireplace, sit-upon hearth, plank floors, soaring ceilings and a expansive glazed-brick veranda where Adirondack chairs line up to take in the water view. This magnificent room is divided into areas: a banquet table, a writing area, two sitting areas with off-white couches, a British West Indies armoire housing the TV, and 1830s mahogany horseshoe counter for laying out a buffet, or locating your laptops *WiFi throughout.
You may feel inspired to write your memoirs here under the watchful eye of the Sable Antelope on the fireplace. Ship stairs lead to a carpeted loft overlooking the gigantic room. A wall of sliders open to the large brick patio, offering a flow and ease of indoor-outdoor living, with mature estate plantings and towering pines.
The fantastic main kitchen has a vaulted beamed ceiling with six skylights and excellent task lighting for cooking. Wood floors, mahogany countertops, and top quality appliances make this two-sink, two-dishwasher, three-oven, bountifully-stocked and meticulous kitchen a place to spend all your time. The chefs will appreciate our Thermador ProHarmony gourmet gas range with Faber pro hood, Miele MasterChef double convection oven, Sub Zero glass door refrigerator. Miele and Bosch dishwashers make cleaning-up painless. We supply a classic Kitchen Aid stand mixer, Cuisinart food processor, Keurig coffeemaker (2) plus drip coffeemaker, French Press and Pour-over (Melitta) coffee carafe and funnel and filters. You may want to spend your entire time in the kitchen. Step out the French doors into the sunny courtyard to snip some herbs or turn to go to the brick barbeque patio with its Weber gas grill plus Weber Kettle charcoal grill and stress-removing lake view.
The bedrooms are pleasant and thoughtfully decorated. Master bedroom queen with luxury bath. First floor bedroom queen with adjacent new shower bathroom (very accessible for those more accessibility.) Lakefront rooms with 2 double beds may change to a different configuration in 2017. King lakefront bedroom has extra twin bed in room. Loft over part of Great room is carpeted with 2 stacked twin mattresses, which can be separated for two, stacked for one, or pushed aside for sleeping bags.
Tamarack has a private boat dock with jet ski ramp, a sandy beach, a boathouse with all-glass boathouse doors, with the lake lapping at the edge of the boathouse -- an exciting location in itself. Kayaks, a canoe, floats, and water toys are supplied.
For those considering accessibility in case a dear one isn't as mobile as in the past, most of the home's features are at-grade. The slope down to the water is an easy stroll and there is a secondary driveway down by the dock that enables access by car.
The circular driveway allows multiple vehicles to navigate through the park-like setting, and there is space for an event tent and caterers' vans. (On a case-by-case basis, we will consider very small weddings. Most neighbors aren't keen on weddings as sound is amplified by the lake and conversations 200 feet away can be heard, which is surprising.)
6 night bookings $6850 including 12% tax. Final cleaning fee $345, theoretically refundable. Please check back for room and capacity changes. 13 night rentals $12,500 for up to 10 guests. Personal checks for rental fees, credit card used for damage deposit. Cards or PayPal may be used with w rental rate adjustment.
Please see our other listings if Tamarack is already taken.
To me, creating the perfect waterfront getaway home is an art form. My lifelong career had been in designing publications, and later creating magazine illustrations and painting expressionistic works on canvas. When I first decided to rent my weekend home so I could renovate an incredible but dilapidated cottage (which became, at great expense, 'Timberframe Cottage') I did not know this would become my work and my passion. Working in 2-D was fun and rewarding, but my new ART is creating 3-D vacation homes that themselves are 'works of art.' My goal with my homes, as with my art before, is to create a setting that exceeds your expectations, and in turn, your patronage lets me continue my art form a few more years. Please read the guest comments to see the generous and enthusiastic compliments we've received. Finding just the right furnishings, using classic Nantucket decor, using materials such as massive beams, barnwood ceilings, wide pine floors, RL sheets, antique cabinets, and creating gardens overflowing with roses and peonies, clematis, daylilies, gigantic buried stepping stones, blueberries, raspberries, foxgloves (can you tell it is June as I write this?) expanses of mahogany countertop, fine appliances, stone fireplaces, stained glass, with views that will take your breath away. Please look at 'all my rental listings' to see my portfolio art in the form of unique and extravagant vacation getaways. It is a labor of love... for you.
We never considered Tamarack Lake Estate as a vacation home when we purchased it. The then-current owners had a special needs child for whom they needed to build a custom-designed home for his future, and they asked us if we would consider buying Tamarack. The house needed a lot of work, but the grounds were spectacular. The mature conifer gardens, the park-like setting, acres of lawn and trees, incredible views and sparkling sunsets over the 'pond.' It took us three years of living in Tamarack Lake Estate to figure out how to fix what needed fixing, and making sense of its rambling and disjointed floor plan. Alas, we had to live through the construction, which is never fun. But now, all its original positive qualities shine, and what wasn't quite right has been resolved. It is a really incredible home (now) and we are awed by the beauty and tranquility of the place.
The kitchen is a destination in itself. But then there is the great room, as big as some folks' homes. But then, there is the private beach, the boathouse, the dock with jet-ski ramp, a swim platform in the lake, the glazed brick great room patio with its row of adirondaks lined up to take in the view. It is like getting an entire resort at the price of a summer home.
(from a text message at the end of her stay) "Hi Robin, Your estate is amazing. I don't want to leave. It will b hard to go tomorrow. Thank U" Lori
I can't say enough positive things about this property. We were a large group of 16 people: 13 adults, one of whom was disabled, and 3 small children. We ranged in age from 70 down to 1.5 yrs.
This property is incredible and the furnishings and appointments of both the grounds and home exceeded our expectations. This was my first experience with VRBO and I was apprehensive about a sight-unseen rental but my concerns vanished the moment we stepped into the house--WOW!!!
The property and appointments reflect a care and thoughtfulness that are apparent throughout the house and grounds. I enjoy cooking and all I can say about the kitchen is BRAVO!!!-BRAVO!!!-BRAVO!!!. My friend from Germany commented that if he and his wife ever build another house the kitchen will be just like this. The only problem we had was trying to remember where everything went after we used it.😀 We really enjoyed gathering in the kitchen and chatting amongst ourselves as we prepared the various meals. My favorite was an evening meal with a light rain falling outside. We had opened the French doors and had soft music playing in the background. The cooking aromas, the wines, the quiet murmurs of conversation punctuated by laughter and the enjoyment of our common friendship made it a special memory for me
The Great Room was an added bonus for our "family gatherings and meals." 16 people all sitting at 1 table and enjoying the company of one another is a memory I'll always cherish. As a humorous aside, the butler pantry adjoins the Great Room and we decided to move the toaster from the kitchen to the pantry to facilitate the breakfast flow in the morning. Until we got the toaster settings dialed in we managed to set the smoke-alarm off several times and got to witness 3 small kids running for the doors as they evacuated the house. Thankfully it wasn't wired in to the local fire department or we would have been on a first-name basis with all the firefighters within a few days.
We had a couple of very minor issues that were immediately addressed but they in way impacted our enjoyment of this stunning property. Robin has done an exceptional job with this property and conducts her business with the highest professional standards. I would recommend this property to anyone and hope that we'll be able to come back someday.
Tamarack Lake Estate is a fantastic place to spend a week with a large group. The location is stellar, the house is beautiful and extremely well equipped, and the privacy is perfect. We stayed here with extended family after my son's wedding. We could not have had a better week with a multi-generational group. The facilities were excellent: a quiet terrace for the oldies, kayaks and private beach for the youngsters, and a great patio for bringing the group together to welcome the evening in. A definite gold star rating for this rental!
What a beautiful home. Perfect for our ladies getaway. Nothing like enjoying a cup of coffee out on the porch overlooking the lake in the morning. Cozy and comfy rooms, outstanding kitchen, and spacious meeting areas and enough bathrooms to accommodate our group. Loved the great room! Would love to come back again some day with the family. Definitely would recommend!! Thanks again Robin for a wonderful stay!
What a lovely, peaceful, picturesque location. Every room is so tastefully decorated and inviting. The home was way to big for us, only my husband, myself and our little fur baby Bodie Boy but what a wonderful time we had. The bed was super comfortable and we all slept like logs. My husband decided to throw his line in the water off the dock one afternoon and wouldn't you know he caught a huge perch! If it was warmer out we would have ventured out on the lake to do some fishing. Great location, away from busy roads but yet close to shopping, historical sites and places to eat. Would love to come back one day, thanks so much Robin!
We celebrated my 60th birthday at tamarack. The home is exquisite, a perfect home to celebrate a milestone event. Close family and friends enjoyed the home as well as the beautiful surroundings. The younger kids had a blast using the canoe, the adults enjoyed sitting at the pond enjoying the peacefulness. My grandson refered to the house as grandmas party house, he's right, a perfect party house. The great room is indeed, great! We enjoyed our time at tamarack making memories with family and friends. Would love to make this an annual event!
As soon as you step into the home and see the view - love at first sight! We had a large group, four separate couples, as well as two teen/young adults and everyone was more than comfortable. In fact, we had extra sleeping space that we didn't use. There was more than enough space to relax alone in peace as well as incredibly inviting large spaces to gather together comfortably. The kitchen is a dream, so much light and that view...have I mentioned the view?! We spent a lot of time together in the kitchen and in the gorgeous great room. We even invited extended local family over for dinner one night and still had plenty of space to be comfortable. Everyone who entered the house, marveled. There was so much thoughtfulness put into even the minor details of each room, making the home extra extraordinary. The property is breathtaking and even though it was a bit too cold and windy to use the boats, it was nice to know they were there. The location worked perfectly for us to travel between Boston and Newport. We had such a wonderful time, made such great memories, and look forward to coming back!
The location is ideal. Situated at the top of Cape Cod, just north of Sandwich before you cross the Cape Cod canal, you have the advantage of staying out of the traffic backups, and being on vacation while others are parked on the highway. Sandwich is 2 miles to the south, and Plymouth center is 15 miles to the north. Plymouth Rock, the Mayflower, and the incredible Plymouth Plantation (which is like a trip in a time machine) are appealing destinations. Charming Sandwich is also two miles away and has a Glass Museum and Heritage Plantation and a fine antiques auction on alternate Saturdays. The area has many fine golf courses, antique shops, and historic homes -- some of which date to the 1600s. The Cape Cod Canal offers great biking paths. A 30-minute drive away are the ferries to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket, and 50 minutes to the mansions of Newport.
Other Activities: Cape Cod Bike Path is very close, and FUN! Golf galore.
Golf: (Actually, while there are great golf courses nearby -- at Pinehills, White Cliffs, and throughout the Plymouth and Cape Cod areas, we thought we should give you more details on the house. We can provide more information for golfers should they inquire:) The master bedroom has a lake view, a queen-sized bed, a graceful soaking tub, tile shower, and wood-counter vanity with vessel sink and Grohe faucet. The middle bedroom has lake view, 2 full-sized beds with antique cannonball headboards. The 3rd bedroom has a lake view, 4 twin beds. The 4th bedroom is courtyard side and features two single beds. The main floor bedroom (just off the Gathering Room and mini-kitchen/wet bar) has a queen bed and adjacent bathroom (grab bar installed in tub wall) and is perfect if you have an older family member in your vacation party. And there is more. Tamarack has a private boat dock with jet ski ramp, a sandy beach, a boathouse with a bunk-bed and all-glass boathouse doors, with the lake lapping at the edge of the boathouse -- a breezy shady place to sit a spell. Plus, for those considering accessibility, most of the home's features are at-grade. The slope down to the water is an easy stroll, and there is a secondary driveway down by the dock that enables access by car should there be a special family member with particular needs.
The circular driveway allows multiple vehicles to navigate through the park-like setting.
Ski: Please see our other listings if Tamarack is already taken. It would be our honor and pleasure to welcome you and your family for a vacation or event that is beyond your expectations.
