I can't believe it's been over a week that we left this beautiful house! We rented Spindrift for 2 blissful weeks at the end of October.
First, hit Costco on your way from the airport! Great wine selection, meat and fish. When we arrived at the house we could not believe our luck that we would be staying here for 2 weeks! We stayed here with my parents, my brother and we had our little 10 month old with us. The house is very neat and well looked after. Any small issue we had was promply dealt with by owner and the on site manager, Roger. The view of the house is Spectacular! Honestly amazing! The kitchen is VERY well equipped. There's also anything you might need for the beach except a beach umbrella. But you don't need one because all the beaches have trees and shade!
We cooked dinner at home most nights and we went to explore the various beaches in the area during the day.
We had a LOT of rain and wind during our stay. At one point we were very worried that it would spoil our vacation as the weather man called for 80% rain and overcast weather every day! BUT do not be fooled by the forecast, because the house is built on a cliff and it gets a lot of wind and sometimes rain. 15 mins later the clouds are gone and it's a nice sunny day! Or a quick drive to Hanalai beach and there's sun!
We drove to the South and visited Poipu beach. It is not as beautiful as the North and we found it too busy and also too hot! We liked the North.
The evenings cooled off nicely and the master suite does not need an AC as the see breeze is so nice and cool!
Regarding the beach below the property. What a gem! If you wear your beach booties or sneakers, it's reallt not that difficult to get down there! Hell, if we could do it with a 10 month old strapped in an Ergo, then anyone can do it! We went there twice and the warer is calm with the most beautiful snorkeling!!
We also visited Hanalai beach a lot and loved eating there for lunch. Would definately recommend the Dolphin restaurant to eat out and to buy stunning fresh fish.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Highly recommended!
The views will stay with you forever. The house was very special and comfortable, with quality beds and furniture. Linens and towels were of high quality. The kitchen was very well equipped. Joe was very easy to work with. We spent most nights eating in because it was hard to find a better sunset than what we had at Spindrift.
Our family of six, three adult couples, spent a spectacular 8 days at Spindrift in July. The views are breathtaking. The house was spacious, airy, and meticulously furnished and decorated. I loved all the louver windows that allowed the fragrant Hawaiian breezes to fill the house. A vase of fresh tropical flowers greeted us upon our arrival. We were also met by Yolanda who could not have been more welcoming and helpful. The kitchen had all the tools and kitchenware we needed to create delicious meals. It had spacious, immaculate counters, lovely china and table wear. We enjoyed the convenience of the gas barbecue right outside the kitchen door. There were beach chairs, towels, boogie boards, masks and snorkels, more than the six of us needed. Two refrigerators made it so easy to stock up on the food and drink we needed. The sheer pleasure of drinking morning coffee on the deck while watching the sun come up was only rivaled by watching the sun set while enjoying a glass of California wine. While we were at Spindrift the last albatross chick of the season took flight right off the cliff at the back of the house. Where else would you be able to experience that? It was a phenomenal vacation. The family all agrees that the only down side is that it will be impossible to find another location that can duplicate those seven days. Truly, it was the trip of a lifetime.
The house is just wonderful, better than the pictures !!! Very modern, a lot of space for each of us (we were 6 people, coming from France) and the view on the ocean is fantastic
We recommend this house for sure
Our family of 3 couples spent a beautiful week at Spindrift, celebrating the upcoming birth of our first granddaughter. The house has the most gorgeous view. The layout was perfect for our families. We enjoyed cooking in a well-stocked kitchen and quite morning coffee out on the deck watching a spectacular sun-rise and evening cocktails as the sun set. We did stock up at the local Costco, located close to the airport. There is a plaza with a grocery store, small shops, and coffee shop about 5 minutes away or a nice 15 minute stroll.
The house had everything you could want, lots of beach toys and snorkeling gear, towels, chairs. This was so nice as we did visit several of the local beaches. The beach directly below the house was a bit hard to access as it had rained and was very slippery.
The house has many movies and books available. I would highly recommend this property. It's obvious that the owner takes great pride in her home. The neighbors are wonderful and do provide additional tips and sites to see around the Island.
We spent a beautiful week at Spindrift. The house has the most gorgeous view you could imagine. Our group consisted of me, my husband, our two young kids, and all four of our parents. They layout was perfect because each set of parents had their own bedroom and bathroom, and we had plenty of room in the master for us and the two kids. The house had everything you could want for Kauai-- lots of beach toys and snorkeling gear, towels, chairs, and pretty much anything you can think of that you wouldn't want to bring with you! The kitchen was also well stocked with tools and appliances, so it felt like cooking in your own house. There are albatross nesting in the cul-de-sac and IN the front yard of the house, and they were hilarious to watch. They are a bit noisy at times and are right outside two of the bedrooms if quiet is an issue. There is a plaza with a grocery store, small shops, and coffee shop about 5 minutes away.
If you're looking for beaches, the beach below the house was a bit hard to access because the trail was very muddy and slippery, so I would definitely count on driving to a nearby beach for going in the water or playing in the sand. We visited in December, and the tides/waves were too high for our little ones to play in the water, so we ended up driving about 30 minutes away to a protected beach (Lydgate) for a couple of days. The house has many books on things to do and places to go in Kauai, so it was easy to find things to do,
I would highly recommend this property. It's obvious that the owner takes great pride in her home, and that she wants people to have a wonderful vacation there, which we did!
