Overview

About the property

Condo, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

Designed for two, the Herons' Nest condo is a private and unique hideaway. Nestled in Tybee's historical Venetian Terrace District and sandwiched between the Atlantic Ocean and the Back River Inlet the Herons' Nest offers a quiet retreat for honeymoons, anniversaries and rest and relaxation for hardworking couples. Lovingly designed by Tybee artists, Fred and Malinda Urvant, the condo reflects their eclectic Art-Deco style of design. Original paintings by the late Soho artist Larry Urvant and photographs by Fred Urvant adorn the walls. Restored Art-Deco furnishings and white tile floors complete the condo's cozy design.

Play on Tybee's scenic Back River Beaches and return to your own private tropical garden to rest and relax. Enjoy a cool drink on your spacious screened porch or soak in the warm waters of your own private 4-person Jacuzzi. Rejuvenate in a soft-water shower and wrap yourself in fluffy towels of Egyptian cotton and sleep on European style linens. Luxury at the beach is only a moment away during your stay at the Herons' Nest.

We invite you to experience the true flavor of Tybee. Beautiful beaches, scenic landscapes, historic sites, excellent cuisine and a laid-back 1950's culture. Since the early 1900's Tybee has been called a utopia and we could not agree more. Please join us at the Herons' Nest where pleasant memories begin.

About Malinda Urvant

Fred and I are both transplants from the East Coast who met in Atlanta. Our dream was to return to the Atlantic Ocean and in 1994 we began a search for the perfect spot. I had been retired from Dupont Corp. after 20 years and Fred was ready to make a career change. Our search ended on Tybee in the Historic Back River District. My mother moved from Canada and settled on Tybee with us and my son and grandchildren settled in the city of Savannah.

Malinda Urvant purchased this condo in 1995

Why Malinda Urvant chose Tybee Island

Tybee was the perfect little beach city, quiet, picture perfect and so small that no one lived more than a few blocks from the beach. Housing values had not exploded yet and you were able to get a good value in a fixer upper.

** fast forward almost 20 years** Tybee is still the perfect little beach city and has retained it's 1950's atmosphere.

What makes this condo unique

You only have to spend a few hours on Tybee to know that this Island is a one of a kind spot and be captured by it's unique culture. Close to Savannah and activities; Tybee offers a peaceful contrast. A calm, quiet and peaceful atmosphere is abundant. Walking the beach, riding bikes and watching sunsets is complimented by the generous and friendly nature of Tybee's local population who feel just grateful that they are able to reside on this little piece of paradise.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for the wonderful stay at the Herons' Nest. This was a great location as we were able to walk to most everything. the one drive we made was to Huc-a-Poos which was well worth it with delicious pizza and yummy drinks. The hot tub was so relaxing and a great way to end each day. Thank you for the bottle of wine that was waiting for us on our arrival also. Great trip and we hope to be back again soon.

Heron's Nest is a Tybee Island jewel

  • 5 of 5

The Heron's Nest was so sweet and clean. Upon arrival Fred greeted us and instantly made us feel welcomed. He and Melinda have put a lot of little extras in the suite that made it so very special and efficient. The garden was tranquil and screened in porch was peaceful. The Hot tub is inside the suite and was really relaxing after our journey. We used the beach gear which saved us from having to rent them. Going on Fred's suggestion we rode the bicycles to AJ's Restaurant (a couple blocks away) how fun riding along the river. The beach, restaurants and shopping is a short walk , everything is so close. Thank you both for making our anniversary trip so perfect.

We Will Be Back. Now we have our favorite "Home Away" beach place!!

Owner's Response: Tybee is an amazing little island with such a friendly atmosphere. We are so pleased that our guests wish to return and visit the Herons' Nest again for another quiet and peaceful vacation. Located conveniently to restaurants and beaches the Herons' Nest remains as a calm oasis from the typical summer activities associated with a tourist resort.

Amazing!!

  • 5 of 5

I loved the hot tub and my hubby loved the bed lol. We loved how peaceful and quiet it was. The nature was exactly what we needed with the chirping of the birds but not over bearing. It was a beautiful nest as its called. A perfect name for a perfect place. I gad to use my wifi calling for my phone being with AT&T which wasn't a issue whatsoever. If I come back I would most definitely stay here again. It was cozy for just us 2. I recommend this it had everything we needed didbt hve to buy anything. Melinda & Fred was simply the best I adore them. Love Theresa & Montez. Hope to see ya again❤❤

Owner's Response: Pleasing our guests is the most important item for us at the Herons' Nest. The cleanness of the unit is a top priority and stocking the Herons' Nest with everything needed for a stay is number two on the list. The Herons' Nest allows our guests to enjoy every minute of their vacation with out the anxiety of worrying about a trip to the grocery store for an item of necessity. Relax and enjoy your time on Tybee island is our motto.
