Overview

About the property

Condo, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

Designed for two, the Herons' Nest condo is a private and unique hideaway. Nestled in Tybee's historical Venetian Terrace District and sandwiched between the Atlantic Ocean and the Back River Inlet the Herons' Nest offers a quiet retreat for honeymoons, anniversaries and rest and relaxation for hardworking couples. Lovingly designed by Tybee artists, Fred and Malinda Urvant, the condo reflects their eclectic Art-Deco style of design. Original paintings by the late Soho artist Larry Urvant and photographs by Fred Urvant adorn the walls. Restored Art-Deco furnishings and white tile floors complete the condo's cozy design.

Play on Tybee's scenic Back River Beaches and return to your own private tropical garden to rest and relax. Enjoy a cool drink on your spacious screened porch or soak in the warm waters of your own private 4-person Jacuzzi. Rejuvenate in a soft-water shower and wrap yourself in fluffy towels of Egyptian cotton and sleep on European style linens. Luxury at the beach is only a moment away during your stay at the Herons' Nest.

We invite you to experience the true flavor of Tybee. Beautiful beaches, scenic landscapes, historic sites, excellent cuisine and a laid-back 1950's culture. Since the early 1900's Tybee has been called a utopia and we could not agree more. Please join us at the Herons' Nest where pleasant memories begin.

About Malinda Urvant

Fred and I are both transplants from the East Coast who met in Atlanta. Our dream was to return to the Atlantic Ocean and in 1994 we began a search for the perfect spot. I had been retired from Dupont Corp. after 20 years and Fred was ready to make a career change. Our search ended on Tybee in the Historic Back River District. My mother moved from Canada and settled on Tybee with us and my son and grandchildren settled in the city of Savannah.

Malinda Urvant purchased this condo in 1995

Why Malinda Urvant chose Coastal Georgia

Tybee was the perfect little beach city, quiet, picture perfect and so small that no one lived more than a few blocks from the beach. Housing values had not exploded yet and you were able to get a good value in a fixer upper.

** fast forward almost 20 years** Tybee is still the perfect little beach city and has retained it's 1950's atmosphere.

What makes this condo unique

You only have to spend a few hours on Tybee to know that this Island is a one of a kind spot and be captured by it's unique culture. Close to Savannah and activities; Tybee offers a peaceful contrast. A calm, quiet and peaceful atmosphere is abundant. Walking the beach, riding bikes and watching sunsets is complimented by the generous and friendly nature of Tybee's local population who feel just grateful that they are able to reside on this little piece of paradise.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A great stay!

  • 5 of 5

This place is everything it says. Arrived and the place was clean and cozy. I went for just a long weekend beach stay so wasn't in the house much, but it literally has everything. Would highly recommend it to anyone. Thanks for memory.

Property was immaculate! The garden and porch were welcoming. Bed was very comfortable.

It was nice to have all the special touches. The bikes, the beach towels and cooler were all appreciated. The 1st day we walked to the beach, but the second day we packed a little lighter and rode bikes then rented an umbrella and chairs. It was wonderful. We really enjoyed our stay. Looking forward to returning.

Owner's Response: Your review is very much appreciated. The closeness of the Tybee beaches to the Herons' Nest is indeed special. No big streets to cross and a pleasant walk to both the Strand Beach and the Back River Beach. Whether you prefer the calm water of the Back River Beach or the body surfing water of the Strand Beach both are within a 10 minute stroll through tree lined streets. A 1/2 hour bike ride to the North Beach offers great kite flying and a view of the huge cargo ships that transverse the Savannah River at high tide. Whether you choose the North beach, the Strand Beach or the Back River Beach you will discover the uniqueness that is Tybee Island. LEAVE ONLY YOUR FOOTPRINTS

Relaxing, Fun, Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

We appreciated our time at The Heron's Nest so much. The place was very private, had everything we needed, and was a comfortable but close distance from the busier beach area- but was convenient to the serene South Beach and Back River areas as well. With the use of the two wonderful beach bikes we could travel just about everywhere we needed to go without having to navigate tricky parking on Tybee. Jacuzzi tub was wonderful for soaking after early am beach runs as well. Just a fantastic place to stay for a couple seeking a retreat from busy life. Many thanks! Dana & Ben

Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the Heron's Nest. Fred greeted us upon arrival and gave us a great walk through of the rental and gave us some great recommendations to restaurants and places to visit on the island and in Savannah. The screened in patio were perfect ways to spend the evenings when storms rolled in during our stay as well. One of the biggest bonuses of the Heron's Nest were the two bikes that were provided... definitely the best way to get around the island! We can't wait to come back next year to Tybee and stay at the Heron's Nest!

Great getaway!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was clean and everything we needed was supplied. We especially enjoyed the private garden area where we spent a lot of our time when we weren't at the beach or eating out. If you want peace and quiet this is the place to be, we had a much needed time of relaxation. Thank you Fred and Malinda for all that you did to make our stay stress free!

  • 5 of 5

The Heron's Nest was absolutely wonderful! Very clean and well kept. The private garden was stunning, a relaxing spot to enjoy a cup of coffee or glass of wine. Best part was that the Heron's Nest is walking distance to everything, beach, restaurants, shopping, bars . .. Tybee Island was perfect and all the local we meet were so pleasant!

Fred and Melinda were wonderful hosts and made sure we were well taken care off. We will definitely be back!
