Designed for two, the Herons' Nest condo is a private and unique hideaway. Nestled in Tybee's historical Venetian Terrace District and sandwiched between the Atlantic Ocean and the Back River Inlet the Herons' Nest offers a quiet retreat for honeymoons, anniversaries and rest and relaxation for hardworking couples. Lovingly designed by Tybee artists, Fred and Malinda Urvant, the condo reflects their eclectic Art-Deco style of design. Original paintings by the late Soho artist Larry Urvant and photographs by Fred Urvant adorn the walls. Restored Art-Deco furnishings and white tile floors complete the condo's cozy design.
Play on Tybee's scenic Back River Beaches and return to your own private tropical garden to rest and relax. Enjoy a cool drink on your spacious screened porch or soak in the warm waters of your own private 4-person Jacuzzi. Rejuvenate in a soft-water shower and wrap yourself in fluffy towels of Egyptian cotton and sleep on European style linens. Luxury at the beach is only a moment away during your stay at the Herons' Nest.
We invite you to experience the true flavor of Tybee. Beautiful beaches, scenic landscapes, historic sites, excellent cuisine and a laid-back 1950's culture. Since the early 1900's Tybee has been called a utopia and we could not agree more. Please join us at the Herons' Nest where pleasant memories begin.
Fred and Malinda Urvant
Fred and I are both transplants from the East Coast who met in Atlanta. Our dream was to return to the Atlantic Ocean and in 1994 we began a search for the perfect spot. I had been retired from Dupont Corp. after 20 years and Fred was ready to make a career change. Our search ended on Tybee in the Historic Back River District. My mother moved from Canada and settled on Tybee with us and my son and grandchildren settled in the city of Savannah.
Malinda Urvant purchased this condo in 1995
Tybee was the perfect little beach city, quiet, picture perfect and so small that no one lived more than a few blocks from the beach. Housing values had not exploded yet and you were able to get a good value in a fixer upper.
** fast forward almost 20 years** Tybee is still the perfect little beach city and has retained it's 1950's atmosphere.
You only have to spend a few hours on Tybee to know that this Island is a one of a kind spot and be captured by it's unique culture. Close to Savannah and activities; Tybee offers a peaceful contrast. A calm, quiet and peaceful atmosphere is abundant. Walking the beach, riding bikes and watching sunsets is complimented by the generous and friendly nature of Tybee's local population who feel just grateful that they are able to reside on this little piece of paradise.
Thank you for providing everything to make our relaxing vacation feel like home. We enjoyed the bikes, garden and hot tub and appreciate all of your suggestions for places to eat and things to do.
We had a wonderful stay here. Walked over to the back water beach every night to enjoy the sunset. Beautiful! AJ's Dockside Restaurant is only a few blocks away also and has very good food. The owners live on site and are very nice. The kitchen is galley style so it is a little cramped but does have everything you need to cook your meals. Very clean and we would definitely rent again if we return to Tybee. Thanks for the great stay Fred and Malinda!
I believe what you will appreciate about this property after visiting the Island is it is located AWAY from the tourist side. It's within walking distance to the quiet part of the beach as well as an awesome restaurant that you can sit outside at. The owner was very polite and helpful. Will visit again!
I can't tell you how much we love Malinda and Fred! They are the perfect hosts! They are around if you need them for something, otherwise, you don't see them. We stayed in Heron's Nest for our Honeymoon eight years ago, and have stayed for two anniversaries, and we have been delighted with every stay. The apartment is absolutely spotless! The bed is so comfortable with the extra padding and sumptuous linens. With an abundance of bath linens, including beach towels and kitchen linens, you are never lacking! The washer and dryer make laundry a breeze. The small kitchen is just perfect for us because we only have coffee, leftovers and snacks in the apartment. There are so many great places to eat on Tybee who would want to spend their vacation cooking? The hot tub is awesome! We sat in it and watched Wisconsin beat Villanova (WTG Badgers!) The new bikes are great, the patio and screened porch are awesome for coffee in the morning or snacks in the evening. Heron's Nest is truly our Happy Place, and we can't wait to go back!
We were here for our Honeymoon, very nice quit, peaceful place.everything that we could ask for. Loved it
What a unique hidden treasure! The Heron's Nest was the perfect place for us! We celebrated our 40th Anniversary walking the beaches, enjoying the sunshine. The Heron's Nest gives you quiet privacy, while being within walking distance to restaurants and shops. This was our first stay at the Heron's Nest but, definitely not our last! Thank you Malinda and Fred for providing the perfect getaway for our nine day stay.
P.S. The wine was perfect!
We had a wonderful time. Everything was clean, comfortable and creative.
