Overview

About the property

Condo, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

Designed for two, the Herons' Nest condo is a private and unique hideaway. Nestled in Tybee's historical Venetian Terrace District and sandwiched between the Atlantic Ocean and the Back River Inlet the Herons' Nest offers a quiet retreat for honeymoons, anniversaries and rest and relaxation for hardworking couples. Lovingly designed by Tybee artists, Fred and Malinda Urvant, the condo reflects their eclectic Art-Deco style of design. Original paintings by the late Soho artist Larry Urvant and photographs by Fred Urvant adorn the walls. Restored Art-Deco furnishings and white tile floors complete the condo's cozy design.

Play on Tybee's scenic Back River Beaches and return to your own private tropical garden to rest and relax. Enjoy a cool drink on your spacious screened porch or soak in the warm waters of your own private 4-person Jacuzzi. Rejuvenate in a soft-water shower and wrap yourself in fluffy towels of Egyptian cotton and sleep on European style linens. Luxury at the beach is only a moment away during your stay at the Herons' Nest.

We invite you to experience the true flavor of Tybee. Beautiful beaches, scenic landscapes, historic sites, excellent cuisine and a laid-back 1950's culture. Since the early 1900's Tybee has been called a utopia and we could not agree more. Please join us at the Herons' Nest where pleasant memories begin.

About Malinda Urvant

Fred and I are both transplants from the East Coast who met in Atlanta. Our dream was to return to the Atlantic Ocean and in 1994 we began a search for the perfect spot. I had been retired from Dupont Corp. after 20 years and Fred was ready to make a career change. Our search ended on Tybee in the Historic Back River District. My mother moved from Canada and settled on Tybee with us and my son and grandchildren settled in the city of Savannah.

Malinda Urvant purchased this condo in 1995

Why Malinda Urvant chose Tybee Island

Tybee was the perfect little beach city, quiet, picture perfect and so small that no one lived more than a few blocks from the beach. Housing values had not exploded yet and you were able to get a good value in a fixer upper.

** fast forward almost 20 years** Tybee is still the perfect little beach city and has retained it's 1950's atmosphere.

What makes this condo unique

You only have to spend a few hours on Tybee to know that this Island is a one of a kind spot and be captured by it's unique culture. Close to Savannah and activities; Tybee offers a peaceful contrast. A calm, quiet and peaceful atmosphere is abundant. Walking the beach, riding bikes and watching sunsets is complimented by the generous and friendly nature of Tybee's local population who feel just grateful that they are able to reside on this little piece of paradise.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for the wonderful stay at the Herons' Nest. This was a great location as we were able to walk to most everything. the one drive we made was to Huc-a-Poos which was well worth it with delicious pizza and yummy drinks. The hot tub was so relaxing and a great way to end each day. Thank you for the bottle of wine that was waiting for us on our arrival also. Great trip and we hope to be back again soon.

Owner's Response: Thank you for letting future guests know how relaxing Tybee Island and the Herons' Nest can be. Fred and I picked the Back River Beach area to relocate to because this little triangle area just off the front beaches is so quiet and peaceful and yet so close to shops and restaurants. You cannot pick a better area for convenience and privacy on Tybee Island. Malinda

Great place to stay on Tybee.

  • 5 of 5

I was only there 2 days, but really enjoyed the charming atmosphere of Herons' Nest. The screened in porch and outside private garden are wonderful, but I especially loved listening to Swing Music albums on the record player. I will be back for a longer stay next time.

Wonderful and Relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a great weekend at the Heron's Nest. We had everything we needed, and there were many nice extra touches, courtesy of Fred and Malinda. We enjoyed using the bicycles to get around the island. We also enjoyed a nice dinner at AJs.

Great vacation spot!

  • 5 of 5

We just spent a week at the Herons’ Nest and it was great! The location is perfect, just a very short walk to the beach and the pier. Plenty of restaurants and shopping in easy walking distance. The Herons’ nest is clean, comfortable and a quiet retreat. Malinda and Fred have thought of everything one could need and even provided information about the restaurants that they recommended and were great hosts. We would like to return for another vacation.

Very relaxing, great location

  • 5 of 5

Fred and Malinda had everything we needed. The Heron's Nest was quiet, relaxing, clean, romantic, and close to just about everything. In fact, we rode the bikes they provided pretty much everywhere. Less than a mile to the beach and several great restaurants.

Owner's Response: We think that our complimentary bikes have been an excellent addition to the many complimentary items we offer at the Herons' Nest. Tybee is a flat barrier island and one does not have to be an athlete to enjoy a relaxing bike ride. Many guests prefer the ease of a short bike ride to the beach instead of having to look for a parking space. For those that prefer a walk to the beach our complimentary beach cart, chairs, ice chest and beach towels enable you to spend less time packing and spend more time in the sun. ***OUR NEWEST COMPLIMENTARY ITEM BY POPULAR DEMAND IS A K-CUP COFFEE BREWER.*** Please bring your own favorite k-cups or use our Mr.Coffee Brewer and drink our complimentary coffee. Make that break to Tybee Time and join us at the beach!!! Fred and Malinda
