|Minimum Stay||4 nights|
This lovely beach house, surrounded by over 1/2 acre of private tropical gardens, overlooks the gentle surf of Playa Cofresi on the North Shore of the Dominican Republic. Villa Del Caribe is the only private beach-front villa in Playa Cofresi and has wonderful large verandas on two floors which are ideal for parties or simply relaxing with a good book and some rum. You will enjoy our large private swimming pool and thatch-roof cabana in the back yard as well as our smaller sitting pool for non-swimmers or those who prefer to lounge in the water (often with a drink!). Of course, our staff will cook, clean (and do laundry), and take care of Villa del Caribe, so you do not have to worry about . . . anything!
Playa Cofresi plays host to many international visitors. This area offers a wonderful place to relax among a mix of friendly Dominican citizens as well as North American and European tourists and ex-patriots. There are also great restaurants within walking distance.
Our Private Tropical Gardens: Villa Del Caribe is surrounded by over 1/2 acre of private tropical gardens. Take a peaceful stroll around the pool and enjoy the colorful bougainvillea, orchids and other colorful flowers and ferns. In the front of the house, you can relax in the shade of coconut palm, almond and mango trees, or walk over to enjoy the sun-drenched 'Island Garden' in the front of the property.
More About Playa Cofresi: Playa Cofresi is a wonderful place for those who want a relaxing Dominican experience, but aren't interested in (or are tired of) the all-inclusive scene. Just walk along the beach, and you'll see and meet a wide range of people, all of whom are enjoying simply being at Cofresi. Tourists from the US and Europe mingle easily with Dominicans. On the beach, language is not a barrier -- a simple 'Hola!' and a smile are all that is needed.
There is also a thriving (and often quirky) community of expats who have washed up on the shores of Cofresi. Most of them have come from the US, Canada, Germany and the UK. Just pull up a seat at Chris & Mady's bar and strike up a conversation. Everyone has a story that they are happy to share over a Margarita or a Rum & Coke. In no time at all, it will be easy to think that you're in the middle of a Jimmy Buffet song!
Beach Reading 'Library': We've stocked our home with a large number of books that are great for reading on the beach or by the pool. And we've also included a lot of books for the kids, too -- from bedtime stories for the little ones to books that the teens will enjoy. Take a good look around when you are there -- we've tucked them into various corners, shelves and niches. You should be able to find something interesting.
And speaking of interesting: Don't worry about being half-way through a great story when it is time to leave. If the book is too good to put down, please feel free to take it with you and read on way home. And if you've brought a book with you that you've finished, you can leave it at the house for another guest to enjoy.
Mark and I are 2nd generation home owners of Villa del Caribe. We live in Northern New Jersey with our dog Pepper, and enjoy exploring -- whether at home or elsewhere.
Mark or Chris Ravera purchased this villa in 1994
Our parents were introduced to Cofresi and the original Villa del Caribe in the mid-80s. They were given the opportunity to purchase Villa del Caribe, which they without reservation and our family has been coming here ever since.
We have developed some great friendships over the years down there. And while we enjoy exploring other parts of the world, Villa del Caribe is a 2nd home to us, and our friends in the area are part of our extend family.
Mark and I have been blessed with Villa del Caribe, and we have made the decision to pass this blessing on, by sharing: with a few charitable organizations. One call out I would like to mention is Vacations for Veterans, through whom we have been able to provide vacations for Purple Heart recipients of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
One last item to mention, due to our busy lives (like yours) we are not always able to respond within 24hrs, please be patient and we will get back to you.
When Mark and I rebuilt Villa del Caribe in 2010/2011, my Mom had only one question, no make that a statement (as only a Mother can do) ----- you will not get rid of the front veranda on the 1st floor, I must have my rocking chair and view of the beach kept. We kept her view and added a few others as well - such as the 2nd floor verandas where you can either enjoy cup of Santo Domingo Coffee in early morning hours as you watch the sunrise over the trees, listening to the birds wake up in the morning. Or the back 2nd floor veranda, over looking the pool area below --- and where my friends and I close the curtains, set up the massage tables and enjoy any tension being worked out of our muscles.
But our most important benefit that I would like everyone to know about is this --- our team, who will spoil you during your stay. Franchesca and Moreno lead the efforts, and are supported by Maria, Juan (our night watchman), and Gabino (our site manager) This team will take care of you, prepare the meals, keep Caribe clean while you are there, and make sure you go home with clean laundry if you ask.
In the meantime, please explore the Dominican Republic, and island of great contrasts and great beauty.
Words cannot describe how wonderful our vacation was at Villa de Caribe! The grounds are amazing. The pool was perfect! The staff...SPECTACULAR! Each morning Franchesca prepared and served our coffee. She then prepared amazing meals that we had set on our first day. She could easily cook in a 5 star restaurant. Maria made sure the house was spotless and even asked to do our laundry. The pool was cleaned every day, and you knew you were safe since the grounds were watched over every night. Tours are arranged at the house and very reasonable. The facials, massages and pedicures were fabulous!
We will definitely go back! If you go, turn up the music and get Franchesca to give you dance lessons! Our group of six loved this place. We even got to watch the Ole Miss football game in Spanish! Hotty Toddy!
Our 3rd visit to Villa del Caribe... 110% as wonderful as our first.. My children have kept in touch with the local kids over the years and look forward to seeing them every visit!
This villa and the wonderful staff and owners are truly remarkable. From the moment we stepped into the house we felt like we were in paradise. This is a carefree experience like no other. As a mother vacationing with her family, it was amazing to sit back and relax. The staff cook, clean and do all your laundry. We spent our time at the beach, the pool, and a few excursions. We ended every day on the beautiful back porch playing games that are provided by the villa.
The staff spoiled my family so much. From the lavish breakfasts and dinners (that she cooks to each persons tastes) to the afternoon fresh fruit smoothies, we were in paradise!
The villa itself is absolutely spacious and beautiful. All the little extra touches make this vacation the best we have ever taken. We can't wait to go back to our little slice of heaven.
I don't often write reviews, but I had to take the time to boast about the experience my family and I had. The home, staff, amenities far exceeded my expectations. Francesca, Moreno, Gus were all a pleasure, nothing was ever a problem for them. They were all extremely pleasant and helpful. I cant say enough about our experience. My husband has been to DR numerous times(as he is half Dominican); however it was my first time. I was a little leery not knowing what we were getting into. Needless to say my kids and I truly enjoyed the experience and we are looking for future dates to stay at this exact same house again....Thanks for making our experience GREAT!!!!!!!
We just returned from a work/pleasure retreat in this amazing villa. There were five of us in total. The rooms were very comfortable and spacious. The condition of everything was fantastic. We had a great space to come together in one of the living rooms to work, plugging in our laptops to the flat screen tv via hdmi cable, but also room to get away and have solitude. There are multiple decks, plus three sitting areas by the pool. It is not an exaggeration to say 20 people could have a quiet place to read all at the same time. The beach is literally across a quiet road and the water was fantastic! There is no need to leave the house/pool/beach if you don't want to, even though there are some great adventure activities nearby (we did a waterfall rappelling tour which was amazing). What set the place apart, though, was the service. We had three daily meals prepared by Francesca, who, along with her sister, is a phenomenal cook with a lot of versatility. If you stay here, you'd be crazy not to have them take care of your meals. Plus, they cleaned the place daily and definitely spoiled us. This place is a gem and I can't recommend it highly enough. We hope to be back!
I arrived here for the first time in the Dominican Republic, but I have travelled all over the carribean. This is my second time to rent a villa, but first in the DR. This villa was amazing. The house was every bit as nice as advertised, and the staff was top notch. May not seem important if you haven't done this before, but the screens on all the windows and doors were very important to keep the Mosquitos out and the fun in. Francesca was awesome at cooking our meals and making a perfect smoothie at all times of the day for my wife and daughter. Moreno took care of the pool and maintenance and even helped me get to a baseball game, he was awesome as well. Juan was our night watchman who never misses a beat. This owner was not only responsive, but even sent us detailed directions from the airport to the house, as well as info on all excursions, etc. I will definitely return for another amazing vacation.
Cofresi Beach, named after a famous pirate, is about 4.5 km west of Puerto Plata. The coral sand at the beach is cool on the feet and soft to the touch. On one end of the mile long beach are rocks and coral that invite snorkelers. There are usually breakers for body surfing in some areas but the rest is just right for wading. There are no rip tides, no dangerous under tows and no jelly fish at Cofresi. Quaint Dominican souvenir kiosks and nice restaurants are set along the beach area but you will not be hassled by hawkers on the beach itself. After the sun goes down, the nightlife picks up, with musical shows, discos and a casino all just a short walk away.
