Our Cabin on the Property of our The Toucan Stay Inn (but 3 can't)...(a/k/a 'TSI')
The 'Owner's Cabin' is not always Rentable, but the owner lives in the USA and enjoys traveling. It is a separate building from the actual Toucan Stay Inn (TSI) Our "Petite To Be in a Garden by the Sea". It is Very Private, Gated and Surrounded with colorful 10 foot tall Hibiscus hedges and 8' Wooden Gates. Besides being on a gorgeous tropical setting, filled with flowers, bushes and Coconut Palms, the TSI is proud to be on the "BeachSide"…just 3 lots from the Caribbean Sea. Unlike most of our competition, we have Air Conditioning, Screened window and large Screened Patio,, WI-FI and Satellite TV. As of matter of fact, we have A/C in all the Inn's accommodations.
The Owner's Cabin has Cathedral Ceilings, a variety of Local Wood Accents and Furniture, a Custom Made California King Sized Bed, True Quality Bedding (real mattresses) and Linens, a Living Room area, Dining Table, Fully Equipped Kitchen, Private Bathroom, Satellite TV/Stereo DVD, Flat Screened TV, Screened in Patio with Table and Chairs, 2 hammocks and a massage table. (see photos)
The Toucan Stay Inn (TSI) is merely steps away from Playa Punta Uva... rated one of the 'Top 10 Natural Beaches in the World' (says Outsider Magazine). Punta means 'Point' there are two sides to it. Each side is completely different. Our side is called the 'family beach' has been awarded a BLUE FLAG for it's cleanliness and safety. The other side is completely different, and my wife and I love to hang hammocks among the palm trees, bring a cooler with lunch and drinks, books and snorkeling spend the day. Muy Tranquilo!!! (Very Tranquil!!!)
The Toucan Stay Inn is conveniently located within a 'stone's throw' of a grocery store, a beach bar/restaurant, and the Punta Uva Dive as a matter of fact, Punta Uva River...a very sleepy river that meets the Caribbean. Kayaks are rented nearby for your convenience.
FREE WiFi is available, along with Free use of Snorkeling equipment, Boogie Boards, Travel Beach Hommocks and Beach Towels, we are happy to offer concierge services for reservations and suggestions for adventures, tours and our list of 'preferred' dining experiences.

I'm not sure if the Garden of Eden was much better, but instead of apples and serpents, we have coconuts, papayas, bananas and an occasional sloth and toucan.
Although the 'Owner's Cabin' has a fully equipped kitchen, Breakfast can be purchased and served on the Inn's Garden Terrace (with advanced notice)
Garden Terrace and the Garden Pavilion are places where our guests can relax, play cards, board games, or just read or leisurely nap in one of our several terrace hammocks or Adirondack Chairs. I retired from the 'fashion industry'. I've toured Costa Rica back in 1999, but truly fell in love with this area. Don't tell everyone about it, please. My Spanish is not that good yet (really horrible, in fact) but the Caribbean Coast has more English speaking population because 100+ years ago the United Fruit Company that controlled most of the Southern Part of Costa Rica brought labor in from the Caribbean Islands (British Colonies). So, they spoke English. When the company Caribbean people had no way to get the lived off the land and kept it as Natural as they could. than the rest of the due to Jamaican a mixture of Raggae, Salsa, Calypso, along with good old Rock and Roll have advanced through the years. Bob Marley is pretty darn popular.
My wife, Mabel (pronounced MaBell) if from Bogota, Colombia and I am from Florida, USA.
I couldn't have found a better location to retire. I walk down the path to the beach each morning, with a cup of the best coffee in the world, and end my day with a float on my back and watch sky change colors during the incredible sun set. I walk back to my cottage, pick a lime off one of my many fruit trees, then squeeze it into a tall glass of Flora De Cana (Rum) and Diet Coke. I love to the road to Manzanillo is just gorgeous. Snorkeling the Cove and kayaking either the 'point' (punta) or the sleepy river that meets the beach are two favorite activities.
The nightlife in Puerto Viejo (7 miles away) is nice to have, but the privacy, fresh air and total 'comfy' feeling of the Toucan Stay Inn (but 3 can't) is one of the greatest 'pleasures' of my life. I prefer living near the beach and love coming home to our Private, Gated, Garden Setting. Who wants to go from the beach to a small room. So, I built the Toucan Stay Inn and our quaint cabin with all the comforts of home.
Jon Stierwalt purchased this cabin in 2006
In my eyes, The Garden of Eden couldn't have been much better. The natural beauty of not just my property, but the entire area is overwhelming to me. On the property we have limes, coconuts, pipas, guanabana, bananas and other fruits with some incredible flowering plants. The place is surrounded by hibiscus 3 sets of wooden entry gates. Two one bedroom air conditioned suites are also available.
The variety of SOME OF THE BEST FOOD I'VE EVER EATEN is incredible, with several of them within walking distance and others within a no further than 5 miles on the same main road. Sushi, Thai, Italian, French, Caribbean, Middle Eastern, Argentinian, and of course, Tico (local) food are all offered. I keep a book listing TSI's recommended restaurants, along with menus. A convenience store (PULPERIA) is located within 50 feet of our front door. Now that's convenient! The owners, Saskia and Connie speaks German, English and Spanish. They are both great people who will fix you up with beer, wine, booze and your grocery needs.

'Location, location, location' is the most prominent phrase in real estate and that's what makes The Toucan Stay Inn (but 3 can't) special'

Location, privacy, air conditioning, hot water, a great mattress, and the comforts of home in a local setting is what makes the TOUCAN STAY INN (but 3 can't) special'.
We stayed for 2 weeks (March 2017) at the Owner’s Cabin at the Toucan Stay Inn. We found the place very relaxing and enjoyable. We spent every night falling asleep in the hammock on the screened porch listening to the rain and the howling monkeys. We would wake to the birds singing. The facilities and grounds were very clean and nicely decorated/landscaped. We spent time lounging in their outdoor hammocks enjoying the scenery. We were minutes to the beach where it was not heavily populated.
Our goal during our stay was to do as much and see as much as we possible could. The owners, Jon and Mabel, where there staying at the Inn during our vacation. They hooked us up with a local fisherman, where we caught Tuna, Red Snapper, and a third species. They set us up on a zip-line adventure. They picked us up, took us to the jungle where we zipped 24 platforms and returned us home. They hooked us up with Junior, a local guide, who took us for the day to see 2 waterfalls (fabulous!) and to the Reservation for a lesson in local fruits, trees, and nuts; each providing medicinal purposes. They gave us directions to some local hiking with an extremely beautiful view of the ocean. We did a hike through a National Park, way cool 8.5 kilometers of platforms through the jungle. They recommended a particular local Chocolate Farm, spectacular. They suggested several places to eat. We so enjoyed all but one place. The flavor, presentation, and atmosphere were incredible for being in such a remote area. Several equivalent to a 5 star restaurant here in the states, but less than half the cost. Mabel made us a delicious mango pancake breakfast. Next door, Bamboocha’ s which was not only delicious, but the back ground and hospitality of the owners was amazing.
We found the locals to be friendly and helpful especially with the language barrier. We speak very little to no Spanish, but were able to find someone that spoke English or be able to find a way to communicate what it is that we wanted or needed.
Jon and Mabel took us to a local friend’s house where we spent several hours visiting. It was a pleasure to meet them and they were so hospitable serving us with a fresh blended fruit drink and scrumptious brownies with coconut toppings fresh from a local chocolate farm.
We truly enjoyed our stay, as well as the pleasure of meeting Jon and Mabel. They made sure our vacation was exactly what we were hoping for. We look forward to returning again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our two weeks at the Toucan Inn. Mike was there to meet us and go over all of the details about our accommodations and gave us all the information about our immediate area. Beach. Store. Restaurant. Ect. The cabin was big and bright. The bed very comfortable. It was clean. The property was lovely, gated and private even though we were near the beach road. The beach was a two minute walk. The location to surrounding villages was central to all. We had the pleasure of meeting Jon, the owner of Toucan Inn. He shared with us many stories about the history of this beautiful area of Punta Uva. We would certainly return to Toucan Inn without hesitation. Thank you Mike and Jon for making our first trip to Costa Rica a most memorable adventure. Pura Vida. Deb and Lew.
This is what vacations are supposed to be like. After a superb time hiking around volcanos and kayaking down gorgeous rivers through the rainforest my wife and I spent five glorious nights at Toucan Stay Inn in the Owner's Cabin. It was like having our own little home away from home. The grounds consist of beautiful tropical gardens hiding behind a secure fence and gates, and it's just a very short walk down the road to the beach. The Owner's Cabin is a large one room, combo kitchen, living room, bedroom, with a full bathroom and a large screened porch. There is plenty of hot water. After a great night's sleep in the king size bed (some nights with the A/C, some nights listening to the rain) we'd have coffee, take a long walk on the beach, come back and make breakfast, then grab the beach towels, books, etc. and head back to the beach. We picked up a couple inexpensive low to the ground beach chairs at Walmart in San Jose earlier in out trip and they were perfect for the beach. There are hammocks to use to sling between trees if you prefer. If you want a beer or a cocktail, burger, or pizza, there is a beach bar right there. Better yet wait for one of the local women to come along with hot homemade chicken or veggie empanadas. After a day of total relaxation we'd venture out to one of the many many local restaurants nearby for dinner and then back to our cabin. Night life is available if that's your scene but we prefer our solitude. After seeing many of the other accommodations in the area we could not have been happier with our choice. Mike the grounds manager will soon become a welcome friend and give good advice on local attractions and activities. A couple things we did not know but were not a problem. You have to buy your own drinking/cooking water but there is a little grocery store across the road. $5 for 5 gallons almost got us through our five nights. Also, there is no housekeeping so you can leave your bed unmade just like at home. There is not a house safe but one didn't seem necessary. The wifi worked great, there is no house computer, if you want to ride a bike you'll need to rent one nearby, and breakfast is not included. Some travel sites have not been updated with that current information. Mike informs us we would not have enjoyed his cooking anyway! Oh, the owner Jon, is always reachable by phone and is also a trove of helpful information. Although not entirely necessary since there are taxis, I would recommend a car for greatest convenien
This was a nice place it was clean and had lots of hot water. That being said this was said to be a bed and breakfast we never saw the breakfast the whole two weeks we were there. The roof leaked on our bed but not to much. We told Mike about it and he said that he knew about that. The beach was really nice and the people as always were great. Mike the manager was nice and told us about all the things to do and where to eat. Jon the owner was very helpful in getting us to the place and answered all the questions I had which were a lot.
My husband and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary in Costa Rica and stayed at the Toucan stay inn for 6 nights. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The unit was very clean and cheerful. The king size bed was comfortable and the shower had great water pressure and never ran out of hot water. The grounds were lovely, full of flowers, and very well maintained. The manager, Mike, and owner, Jon, were both very friendly and had lots of good recommendations. It was a very short walk to the beautiful beach which was never crowded. There are a few very good restaurants a short walk away.
I would highly recommend the Toucan Stay Inn!
A very comfortable place to stay and explore the local area. Great service from the manager Mike, who had a wealth of knowledge about local services and amenities, as well as the geography of the area. Thoroughly recommended!
Play Punta Uva (our beach) is just a short walk away (actually only 3 lots away). Within 3 miles of us is the Famous Jaguar Rescue Center, Canopy tours(zip line tours), horse back riding, Iguana Sanctuary, Yoga, Surf Lessons etc. I REPEAT...we are only 600 feet way from swimming, kayaking and snorkeling, which are all available at our Beach..."rated in TOP TEN NATURAL BEACHES IN THE WORLD" by Outside Magazine and Travel and Leisure. Our 'Owners Cabin" sits is next to our Toucan Stay Inn. Our manager at the Inn will be happy to assist you with recommendations for restaurants, private beaches, tours, etc.
Our little "paradise" sits between Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo. Both are places that you should visit. Each with their own Caribbean "vibe".
