About the property

Oceanfront 5 Bdrm Vacation Rental Freetown, Bahamas

Just a short 30 minute drive from the bustling centre of Freeport, with its fine dining, golf courses, casinos, shops, exciting night life and international airport with many flights to cities worldwide.

Whether you are looking for a comfortable home base for your adventure-filled vacation, a romantic location for your wedding or or simply a relaxing worry free holiday in the sun, 'Tranquil Breezes' will become your favorite place on earth.

This home is located just a quick 4 minute drive from the Lucayan National park. Great swimming area, sandy beach and shallow, calm waters. Colourful local restaurants, or 30 minute drive to Freeport & Lucaya for casinos, night life and markets (including the famous 'straw market').

The property, with its sweeping lawns, broad low-tide beaches and separate bedroom suites is ideal for a destination wedding and has been host to several. Marva at Chic Bahamas Weddings has been instrumental in creating an incredibly beautiful and memorable day for the lucky couples who have been married at Tranquil Breezes.

We suggest you try Sunwing for flights. They fly direct from many cities. We will even occasionally fly in on Friday and enjoy a night in Freeport at the Grand Lucayan Hotel if we can't get a Saturday flight.

The decor and architecture of this property will replenish your soul with its pleasing mixture of modern luxury and island simplicity.

About Lesley/Alison

Hello, my wife and I have travelled with our children to various islands in the Caribbean, but we felt most at home on Grand Bahama Island. I have a contracting company in Ontario Canada and had been searching for the right property on which to build our vacation home.

Lesley/Alison purchased this house in 2003

Why Lesley/Alison chose Bahamas

The Goodfellow family has vacationed on Grand Bahama for more than 15 years and enjoyed the area and local people so much that we built a home on Pelican Point in the late 1990's.

The demands of the construction industry in Canada kept the Goodfellow family in the North a great deal of time and we decided to try share our vacation home by renting it out when not in residence. This proved successful and when we decided to build a larger home, we looked for the best beach we could find on the island of Grand Bahama.

We located a large lot on Golden Beach and in 2003 completed work on this current home near Freetown.

What makes this house unique

From the spacious luxury of the interior to the whisper of the ocean out in front, this feels like our little slice of heaven on earth.

It's a great place for a family get-together or a small wedding and we can recommend photographers, etc.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Our stay was, as before, perfectly wonderful. The accommodations are so well-planned for a group, and the weather, and even the airlines, all cooperated beautifully.

Stepping in the front door, even after several stays, is always a delightful surprise---every bit as good as you remember.

The new porch furniture is perfect. It is our hope to be able to return next year."

Absolutely perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Everything was absolutely perfect! My family and I had the absolute best time. From the beautiful, private beach to the spacious house we couldn't have imagined the property any better. From the moment we booked the house the owners made everything so easy to ensure we had a great stay.

If you are looking for a relaxing trip with friends and family, this is definitely where you should stay!!

Beautiful home in a beautiful area. Quit and secluded perfect for families or adults.

  • 5 of 5

The overall experience was excellent. The only reason for the four and not five stars was the forest fire that drove us to leave the beech by the house and explore elsewhere. The east end of the island offered even a better beech experience than the house. The house is well and tastefully built very spacious and we felt very comfortable with 8 adults and one child.

If you go bring your own snorkeling gear.

We really enjoyed our trip both due to the house and warmth of her people.

Amazing escape on Grand Bahama island

  • 5 of 5

This house is just amazing! The furnishings are top notch, the beach is basically private, and the cat is such a love. Just returned from a week away at the Goodfellow house. Off the beaten path (the "roundabouts" are a killer for those of us used to driving on the right side) is a gem of a house. My family and I had the best time. The airport was easy, weather was perfect (locals said rain, ha for 5 minutes maybe!), the sand doesn't get hot, there's a breeze most days and the water was so warm. We did have storms out at sea that kicked up the sand and reduced visibility most days but we did see fish by the rocks. We also saw several stingray and a very large barracuda. Didn't make it to the reef. You can definitely see it from the house but it would be a looooong swim. Evenings and early mornings were tough with the bugs. The deep woods off didn't seem to scare them off. Island bugs must be immune. We spent mornings hanging out with Garfield the cat (who ate like a king while we were there) and evenings hanging out with each other. Wifi was spotty which drove the teens nuts but that's island life mon! For dinners out we highly recommend Pier 1 East (they feed the sharks starting at 7) at the port and Flying Fish in the Lucayan Marketplace area. Also, recommend Les for reef fishing (his wife works at Brad's rental car at the airport. pick his card up there). We took home so many fish the cat ate well and we gave away what we froze. Most people we met were very friendly, happy to provide directions or just general info on island life. Rent this place. You will love it!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the great tips and information for our guests. As in many tropical places, the sand flies (No-see-ums), are worse at dusk and dawn. We hope that you were able to enjoy these times, watching the sunset, or having a family meal at the large picnic table, in the 2 screened in porch areas. We found that the modem for the internet is what cause the problem, and it has been replaced.

Picture perfect beach and gorgeous house

  • 5 of 5

Everything about this house and the beach was stunningly gorgeous, just like something out of a tourism brochure. Kids had fun playing in the sand and collecting shells, while adults enjoyed the lanai and the lounge chairs on the beach. We saw one other person on the beach and two boats in the space of the week we were there. The privacy and quiet were lovely!

In one word PARADISE! This home and it's amenities were perfect for us!

  • 5 of 5

Tranquil Breezes is a stunning home with beautiful grounds and a stunning beach. Patricia, the house caretaker, met us there when we arrived. She showed us the home and grounds. She filled us in on local activities and restaurants. She also gave us her phone number so we could contact her if needed. We felt very welcomed.

Activities:

We picked coconuts from the trees in the yard and made some delicious drinks with the water from them. We snorkeled, swam and went beach combing every day. We also went on a kayaking tour of Lucayan National Park. The mangroves, caves and the beach were unique. Our guide was knowledgeable and shared lots about the history of the Bahamas. While on our tour the guide told us about a Blue Hole in Crabby Bay. With his directions and recommendations we made it to the Blue Hole. All I can say is WOW! It was a deep hole in the ocean floor just off shore. During low tide you can easily walk out and snorkel there. The tropical fish were concentrated around and in the hole. It was an absolutely unique experience and I would recommend it to anyone. On our way home we stopped where the ferry comes in (around McCleans settlement). We bought lobster from a fisherman that had just come in. We bought 21 tails for $30.00. Great deal and a delicious meal for us. Part of our group also went scuba diving. Some took the Scuba for Beginners and Scuba Diving with sharks. They all enjoyed it tremendously and had a video that was up close and personal. This was a Great Place to vacation! Enjoy!!
