This unique Mountain House sits on 25 acres and is located one mile off US Highway, Route 3. We are about 165 miles to downtown Boston and 115 miles from the Manchester, N.H. airport.
This custom built 2000 square foot home has one of the finest southern views of any house in the region. On a sunny day you can see as far away as Cannon Moutain, or as close as Martin Meadow Pond, where you can be in your kayak in five minutes from the house. Martin Meadow Pond also offers some of the best fishing of any small lake or pond within 20 miles.
If you love to hike or just nature walk, you don't even have to get in your car and drive. Don't be surprised if while on that walk you see a moose feeding in the fields down the road from us. Bird lovers will also be in heaven by the abundance of numbers and variety of species that love to hangout in our hardwood forest. If you enjoy skiing, Bretton Woods Ski Resort is only a 20 minute drive from the house; and only 10 minutes further is Cannon Mountain. If you love to snowmobile there are numerous places to choose from within a short ten minute drive.
Most of all, if you love the outdoors in a private setting and still only want to drive ten minutes to the grocery store, then you will love our place.

I grew up spending most of my life in the South. I manage a family business but, my position can best be summed up as a property manager.
Owner purchased this House in 2007
Why Owner chose Whitefield
My wife and I really knew nothing about the New England area. It wasn't until we were invited by friends to visit Northern New Hampshire in 2005 that I realized I had been missing out on a wonderful area. The area blew me away with its natural beauty that I had never experienced in the flatlands of Florida. In 2006 we bought some raw land with the intention of building on our own 80 acre subdivision. Before we built our road, our realtor alerted us to this mountain house on 25 acres with beautiful Southern views. It was an easy decision to go forward to making this house a family retreat during the harsh summers in Florida.
What makes this House unique
Location, location, location. We love to be isolated but, also love to be close enough to get to the grocery store and other shopping in ten minutes. Being very close to some great fishing and kayaking ponds is important. When we want to go sking we are only 18 miles from Bretton Woods. If we are in the mood to go hiking, we have numerous places to go within 10-25 minutes.

Mountain view in Lancaster
Perched on the top of a hill, this 2 br and a loft bed home with open kitchen/family room with wonderful fireplace and incredible views of the mountains from sunrise to sunset. Great caretaker Lou made sure the driveway was sanded during the wild cold snap of minus 21 degrees!
Snowshoeing to Mt Porter at Weeks State Park right down the road.
Everything was clean and fresh very relaxing vacation.
Thanks Kim for taking time to write and share your experience at our mountain house.
House was great, very secluded. View was breathtaking. 10-15 minutes to Santa's Village. 6 minutes to town. We would definitely rent this house again. Thank you so much for the accommodations!
Beautiful Views From Spacious Mountain Retreat
Well appointed cabin with plenty of room for everyone. Nicely decorated so if felt like a home away from home. Great books about the area in the cabin, as well as puzzles and games. We loved waking up every morning to the different views of the valley. Some mornings shrouded in fog, others crystal clear. We saw deer through binoculars near the lake, and a doe and fawn right on the property. Also, some of the largest wild turkeys we had ever seen. Raptors and Hummingbirds were among the many species of birds we saw on the property. We hiked many trails in the White Mountain National Forest, a highlight being Mount Washington. If you like easy waterfall trails, check out Sabbaday Falls and The Basin. Best bang for your buck, free. The Flume Gorge is highly overrated and expensive. $62 for a family of four and way too crowded to enjoy nature. We barely scratched the surface of the many trails we wanted to explore. Will definitely return to this special place.
Thank you Serge for taking the time to write those kind words about our mountain house. Also, thanks for the informative hiking words that will help out future guest. Most of all, thanks for choosing our house to spend some relaxing time in the North Country of NH. You and your family are welcome back anytime.
My husband and I stayed at the mountain house for three nights in February. It was a last minute decision to get away, and Kevin (the owner) and Lou (the caretaker) were great to work with. The transaction was handled quickly and seamlessly. We called Lou when we were getting close to the address, and he met us there. It was awesome to have someone introduce us to the house in person. Everything you could possibly want or need was there! Dry firewood and kindling, blankets and quilts, lots of pillows, books and magazines, games and puzzles, area information, wifi, flashlights and candles if needed, paper products, laundry detergent and ALL of the kitchen necessities... The house was clean, well-maintained, nicely decorated, cozy and comfortable.
There is the driveway... We live in New Hampshire and of course read the reviews, so we were totally prepared. It has been such a mild winter that the surface of the driveway was mostly clear. We had absolutely no problem in our AWD SUV, but it did kind of take our breath away! We know from experience, though, that you have to go UP to get those kinds of views.
Those views, whether from the house, deck, screened porch or even the driveway, were absolutely spectacular! Over 180 degrees of mountaintops, and the scenes change with the time of day and the weather. We had some clouds and the peaks disappeared, then it snowed and covered everything in a fresh blanket of white and the mountains reappeared. Sunsets were amazing; everything turned pink!
We went mainly for the peace and quiet. We wanted to unplug and unwind, and that's exactly what we did! In front of the ENORMOUS fireplace was our favorite spot when the mountains were hiding or it was dark. The house has radiant floor heating, so even though we had one single digit night, we were walking around in our bare feet.
It was so private, quiet and still we were thrilled. The entire area is wild and beautiful. We saw the tracks of 5 or 6 different kinds of animals, and one evening when we switched on the outdoor spotlight to watch it snow, a family of raccoons looked in at us kind of annoyed that we disturbed them! Late one morning we saw a bald eagle; breathtakingly beautiful!
We definitely recommend the property and will be returning ourselves to this mountaintop treasure. Thanks for sharing, Kevin, and thanks for helping us out, Lou!
Well we have had reviews before but nothing like what you have just described. You have written a story that I didn't want to end! You have some wonderful writing talent. It was a pleasure to have you as a guest and you are always welcome back.
New Hampshire Beauty
An extremely clean, attractive and comfortable mountain home. Gorgeous views!
Thank you Pam for taking wonderful care of our mountain house. Hope to see you all again.
What a glorious time we had at this exceptional mountain house! Perched atop a very steep unpaved driveway ( you do need a 4WD vehicle, or you can walk up and down it like we did-- if you don't enjoy exercise, bring the truck!) this home boasts the most magnificent views-- almost indescribable!
Each evening, the clouds settle in to completely obscure the mountain range, then, as the sun rises, the clouds gradually lift, revealing the mountains one by one-- it's like your own magic show.
We loved the location near Lancaster, an adorable town with lots of amenities but not touristy. Recommend the delicious food at the Moonbeam Cafe in town, we went there for our one meal out.
The home itself wants for nothing. It has a massive wrap around porch with adirondack chairs -- I spent one whole day of our trip on that porch just watching the mountains and meditating. The decor is cozy and mountain-themed, and the owners have thought of everything you might need-- rooms are stocked with all your kitchen amenities, laundry, extra blankets, etc.
Lou, the property's builder and caretaker, is lovely and so helpful. A huge storm downed several trees on the property while we were there, leaving us without power, and Lou was at the house within minutes. Fortunately, since the house was so well equipped with candles, flashlights and kerosene lanterns, we didn't mind the outage a bit. A candlelit night in the mountains is our idea of a good time.
We were just a couple and our toddler on this trip, but the house could have accommodated several more people without feeling cramped, because there are so many different hangout areas. A portion of the wrap around porch is screened in with doors that lock on each side, so our toddler was able to blissfully set up camp out there with his toys while we cooked meals, etc. Others might care about little tiny things like super slow internet, but we weren't there to be on the computer, so it didn't really faze us and we just used our smartphones when we needed to look up a local park or place we wanted to go. There are plenty of resident carpenter ants, but again, we only had to look beneath the kitchen sink to find extra ant traps, and once we put them out, no more ant parade. This place is absolutely fabulous if you want to have a home base for your NH adventures, or if you never even leave the porch. Blissful. Thanks to Kevin and Lou for taking such thoughtful care of this beautiful home. We can't wait to return.
