Overview

About the property

2 Bdrm 2 Bath Fully-furnished home. Sleeps 5 on beds. Quiet & Private!

Escape 2 nights, 2 weeks - or more - for a lifetime of memories here at Creekside Escape in West Central Wisconsin.

First: take a few minutes to read some (or all!) of the reviews here on our HomeAway listing. Guest reviews are the ideal way to "see between the lines" of rental home advertising and we've been blessed with many families who've taken the time to tell others what they like best about Creekside.

Then: when you look at our rates, rest assured there are NO hidden fees here. We even offer a discounted nightly base rate of $140 per night if you plan on staying 5 or more non-holiday nights October thru January; or $180 per night base rate if you stay 5 non-holiday nights or more June thru September. What's a base rate? It's the nightly rental fee we charge for up to 5 overnight guests without pets. The 'extra guest' fee and nightly pet fees are explained below.

What are we? Creekside is a fully-furnished, modern & immaculate, family-owned guesthouse located on a wooded hillside above a crystal-clear trout stream. It's an ideal choice for a 2 night get-away or - better yet - a full week or two. We even let you bring your beloved K9(s) - why leave them behind?

Bring your fly rods and fish for our Native Brook, wild Brown or wily Rainbow Trout, or your canoes and kayaks so you can ride the currents, or maybe a tube or two for easy riding. Wade a few minutes in shallow water downstream and there's a wide, deep - typically 8 to 10 foot deep - 'swimming hole,' where you and your loved ones, and your K9s(!) can play and swim in the water. Most years, we even have perfect-for-sun bathing, warm-and-relaxing sandbar beaches you can stretch out on, And we leave out lawn chairs for you to use if you want to sit up and read, or 'do' a picnic, or ...... just sit and stare off into space without being interrupted by anyone or anything.

If you're a hunter, our location can't be beat. We're right in what's called the "Deer Capital of Wisconsin." Between the Jackson County Forest lands and Black River State Forest, there's over 188,000 acres of public hunting opportunities. We're just a 10 minute walk away from 1000s of acres of County Forest land - the perfect habitat for white tail deer, wild turkey, squirrels, possum and rabbits - and an 11 mile drive to the state forest. For State of WI Dept of Natural Resources info, go to the state website: www.dnr.wi.gov and for Jackson County, follow the Forestry & Parks department link off: www.co.jackson.wi.us

We've dedicated a whole acre of land around the house just for our guests to use, so Creekside's a very quiet, very private get-away location for all ages. Yet we're an easy drive to state & county lakes, parks, trails, golfing, shopping & dining. You can go scuba diving at Wazee Lake, try your luck at Majestic Pines Casino, golf at a great course right in Black River Falls or walk the 4 mile Heritage Trail around the city.

Our road is part of a Township-designated ATV route that links right up to the 235 mile Jackson/Clark County ATV/Dual-Sport Motorcycle Trail. We provide safe, off-road parking for your rigs & trailers close to house, with NO 'extra-vehicle' charges. You can get on your rigs at the house, take one of our driveways out to Dodge Road, then drive straight to the Trail 6 section of the two-County system. Do note: the Township ATV route we're on isn't shown on the printed and online ATV maps Jackson County provides! (Ask us to email you the current Township ATV route map so you can see exactly where we're located.)

Our township road is also part of a spectacular 300 + mile snowmobile trail that's well-groomed and maintained and connects to another 500 miles of trails in surrounding counties! Again, you just leave your trailers by the guesthouse, get on your rigs, drive out the driveway and you're in sports-rider heaven.

The house is a modern, two bedroom, two full bath, fully-furnished mobile home that's open Mid April thru the first Monday in January, and comes complete with central heat & A/C, a well-appointed kitchen, laundry room w/washer & dryer + laundry soap & dryer sheets, bed and bath linens plus comfortable, clean furniture in every room. DISH 250 Channel TV Programming and WIFI internet service is provided free-of-charge. Five guests can sleep comfortably on beds in the house. If additional overnight guests have been approved, there's a full-size sofa bed in the living room plus a full-size ('fit for two') Lane sofa bed down in the furnished screen house - open for use mid-Spring thru September. Just about the only things you'll need to bring to Creekside are cell phones, big beach towels and extra large bath towels (if you prefer them) charcoal and flashlights. We'll make up the beds for you (unless you'd rather bring your own linens) or - if time is short between bookings - we'll leave out sheets sets for you to use.

Talking about the screen house: Pretend you're roughing it when you're not!: Guests who want relax 'outside' without ever worrying about bugs are going to love our unique 12 x 14 framed screen house we've named The Bird House. We built it close enough to the creek so you can watch the water flow by and listen to the 'water music' without even getting out of your chair. Read, play cards, get caught up on family news, bring down a picnic basket from the house, watch your spouse fly-fish the creek, or your kids play in the water. Work on crafts, or just sit down there and and do nothing. We provide the pillows, blankets, comforter and sheets for the sleeper sofa. Do note that the guesthouse and The Bird House aren't handicapped-accessible or child-proofed.

Smoking isn't allowed in the guesthouse, but it is allowed on the open entry porch, on the decks and in The Bird House (cigarettes only there.)

Our base rates apply to up to 5 overnight guests without pets. If additional overnight guests are approved, an additional $20 per nite per person (3 years and older) will be charged. If you're bringing a K9 (or 2 or 3!) see our pet rates, rules and regulations below.

We've already included the nasty 5.5% state and local taxes here in all our rates.

It's a 2 nite minimum rental here throughout the year except for:

the last full weekend of September = 3 night minimum rental and Nov 17th thru the 26th = a 4 night minimum rental.

Children are always welcome but must be kept under adult supervision at all times when they're in the house, on the property and in the water. Just ask and we'll be glad to provide a highchair, baby tub, diaper pail and soft play toys for your little ones. When they get to the outdoor-game age, we provide lots of water and land toys, balls, badminton rackets, birds and net, horseshoes, even croquet and Bocce ball sets.

Dog(s) are very welcome! A $100 refundable pet damage deposit is required for your first visit and modest nightly pet fees are charged for up to 3 K9s, with no weight-limit. Those additional fee(s) are: for 2 night stays: $15 per night, one dog; $20 per night, 2 dogs and $25 per night for 3 dogs. If staying 3 nights or more, it's $12 per night for 1 dog, $17 for 2 dogs and $22 for 3 dogs. Ask us to email you our Pet Rules and Regulations so you know what's allowed and required of our pet owners and their pets.

Enjoy all the activities in this area of Wisconsin while you're here, Spring Summer, Fall and early Winter, or just soak up the R & R right at Creekside. No other renters or rental units here, so there's none of the noise associated with water parks or large RV/camper sites where you're elbow-to-elbow with other vacationers. The owners do live just downstream from the guesthouse, but you'll never see them unless they're watering the gorgeous gardens surrounding Creekside or you need their help with something.

Key in. Sigh. Relax. Enjoy!

We're just two hours from Madison, 70 minutes from the Wisconsin Dells, 1 hour from La Crosse, or Eau Claire, about 3 hours from Wausau, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Rochester & Dubuque IA and four hours from the north Chicago suburbs. We're a proud member of the Black River Area Chamber of Commerce and are featured on their website. Do check the websites for Jackson County, the City of Black River Falls, the Black River Area Chamber of Commerce or the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for more area information.

Thanks for your hospitality. The dogs loved all the new smells around the cabin ... (the guys) hunted Fort McCoy again this year and hope to make it back next year.

A truly unique 4 season get-away!

Escape for 2 nights, a week or two (or longer!) for a lifetime of memories for everyone in your group.

Located 9 miles southeast of Black River Falls WI, in the pine forests of southeastern Jackson County, we're just down the road from 1000s of acres of undeveloped county forest land.

The woods team with birds and wildlife, the air is clean, crisp and quiet, and there's very limited public access to the lovely trout stream below Creekside and its neat 'swimming hole' and sand beaches.

If you're in the mood for dining, shopping, antiquing, boating, hiking, biking or to go to a water park, golf course or casino, that's all just 15 minutes away in Black River Falls.

Bring your fly rod and fish our stream for wild brown trout, native brook and rainbow; take a short drive to canoe and kayak the Black River or fish the Black River, Lake Arbutus and flowages for muskie, walleye and smallmouth bass; hunt for whitetail deer, ruffed grouse, wild turkey, ducks and geese; ice skate year-round at the Black River Falls rink; enjoy prime scuba diving at Wazee Lake - Wisconsin's deepest lake; hike, bike or ride the trails at the 68,000 acre Black River State Forest; experience the beauty of Ho Chunk culture at their Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend pow-wows or try your luck at the Ho-Chunk Casino!

Golf the 18 hole Skyline Golf Course in Black River Falls is a golfer's dream course - laid out over acres of undulating and wooded hills. The back 9 is especially scenic and well-designed as it carves its way through a beautiful oak and pine forest.

Do as much as you want or as little as it takes to rest, relax and get rid of the stress you've been carrying around. Stop looking at your watch or waiting for the phone to ring. You might even read a book or two. Or do nothing at all. Your peace and privacy is guaranteed. That's what a real vacation is all about.

We're open Mid April through the first week of January, accept MasterCard and Visa and welcome your family dog(s) with open arms. Nightly K9 fees are: for 2 night stays, 1 dog = $15 per night, 2 dogs = $20 per night, 3 dogs = $25 per night. For 3 or more nights the fees are: 1 dog = $12 per night 2 dogs = $17 per night, 3 dogs = $22 per night.

When you compare what you've learned about Creekside to what you've read about other rental sites in our area, we'd like to suggest that you double check the following: do their rates already include the 5.5% state and local taxes like ours do, or do you have to pay that additional $ before you can check-in? Is the water so clean you can drink it from the tap or will you have to bring along bottled water? We test our artesian well water every year to make sure it's safe for you to drink - so leave those fancy filters and expensive bottled waters at home! And, finally, ask the property managers if they're licensed by the State of WI to operate their rental unit(s). They'd need to pass a rigorous yearly inspection by a Health and Family Services inspector, like we do, to be properly licensed. And, boy, do those inspectors check everything to make sure you're coming into a home that's clean, safe and properly maintained for you and everyone you bring along with you to Creekside.

Please contact us via this website with any questions you might have and for more info and pictures of this beautiful little corner of heaven we've been blessed with here.

A hidden gem!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our time away here. It was so peaceful and the scenery and river are so beautiful. We had some rain and the whole area seemed so still. All you could here was the sound of the river. The owners were so kind and helpful and even allowed our almost 8 year old to help catch and move their goldfish! There were lots of games and toys for our kids to enjoy you. Of all the places we've had the opportunity to stay at, this has been the best yet. We will be highly recommending this lovely get-away to everyone. Thank you so much for allowing us to enjoy such a wonderful place!

Owner's Response: What fun it was to see the sheer joy and pride on the face of an 8 year old, carefully carrying a pail of water with Bill's goldfish in it! If nothing else inspires us to keep opening our home to weary travelers, it's moments like that. We're so glad they "found" us and enjoyed the peace and quiet here.

Relaxing at Creekside! Come see for yourself!

  • 5 of 5

First of all, Ruth and Bill treated us like family, that in it self was awesome. Creekside is just so welcoming and so beautiful. We will be making a return visit hopefully in the not to long future; come see for yourself! I have never stayed in a place that was so well stocked with quality items I.e. kitchen utensils, bath necessities, outdoor equipment etc. Thanks you two. Makes me want to pack my bags and leave today for another visit! In closing, this vacation spot is a no brained. Thanks again from the Haworth's and Schiltgens.

Owner's Response: We do so appreciate these loving words. These folks were surrounded by rain most of the time they were here and never complained - just found fun things to do and enjoyed being together as a family. That says more about them than it does about us, really. So happy to hear they'll be coming back to us. 8-)

Exactly what we thought it would be and then some!!

  • 5 of 5

This wonderful little home is the perfect get-a-way location. It is so quiet and close to many beautiful parks and quaint towns. We loved the grounds! Loads of plants and tons of shade. We barely scratched the surface of the outdoor activities in the area. The cranberry bogs are only 25 min. away. Cute Amish area is about 30 min. away. We hope to return to snowshoe on the trails in Black River Falls. The property owners have created a little oasis that has everything you need to enjoy your stay. Looking forward to returning one day to sit in the gazebo. With the sounds of the river running past, it seems like a glorious place to spend a lazy day sipping coffee or wine!! Great location!

Owner's Response: These folks are very well-traveled, so it really meant a lot to us to read their kind words. We'd welcome them back anytime with open arms, including their beloved K9! We just hope they can stay longer next time. A word to other lucky homeowners if these folks come your way: they leave a very tiny footprint behind. The Golden Rule has always governed how we shared this home with others over the last 13 years, so - when guests return the favor - it's truly a blessing.

Owner's Response: This trio of friendly ladies brought smiles and laughter with them -simply perfect neighbors and wonderful housekeepers. They played it smart and kept their cool during our unusually hot "first Fall weekend" here, so we know they're well-traveled. We're very pleased to read their kind words and so glad they had a good time.

Owner's Response: These guests were the most delightful folks we've had here in a long time. You know what it's like when you meet people for the first time and it feels like they've been friends forever? And you hug them "hello instead of shake their hands? And hate to see them leave? What a blessing!

All about family

Fantastic location! Ruth and Bill have set up a spot for peope of all ages to enjoy and pets. Numerous outdoor activities, such as atv trails, swimming, fishing, volleyball, and a great fire pit area. Games and movies also provided. Toys for little ones was a great suprise. Our 2 year old had tons to play with. Never touched what we brought.

Home was clean, well equipped inside and out.

Lots of nice places to sit and hear the creek; especially the bird house.

I highly recommended staying. This couple works really hard to make sure your stay is enjoyable.

Thank you Ruth and Bill for everything!
