Great location!, August 19, 2015

We had a lovely week at this cottage in the woods. It is close to the quaint town of Camden and a good location if you want to tour the coastline of Maine. The house was a little older than we had anticipated, but all the amenities were there. We travel with our cocker spaniels so this was a welcome find. We enjoyed canoeing in the pond and ping pong in the game room. The host was very welcoming and pleasant too. We would definitely consider a future return trip.
The pictures don't do the house justice, it is a beautiful, well-maintained home in a picturesque location. It's on a quiet dead end road, and although out of the way - it is still close to everything. We fished in the pond everyday (live minnow are the trick!) and caught mostly large mouth bass, some pretty big ones too! The house is plenty big, we had two families (4 adults and 3 small children) and we never felt crowded. All the great coastal destinations (Bar Harbor, Boothbay, Freeport...) were within 2 hours from the house. There were also plenty of great places to eat nearby or get take out. The owners were very helpful and close by. I would definitely recommend this house to friends or family and will probably stay there again when we return to Maine.
The house was OK. The couch in the livingroom stunk from body odor to the point that we couldn't sit on it. The lower level reeked from fuel oil and the smell permeated the laundry we did. I couldn't imagine ever being down there to use the provided games. The pond was just disgusting- shallow with the muckiest bottom and filled with lily pads except in the very center. The house has no swim float of its own and only this small poorly constructed dock . It was really not worth kayaking or canoeing on this ridiculously small pond. In ten minutes you had navigated its entire length. The owner really copped an attitude about us not wanting to take our garbage off the property to the dumpster at the inn he owns. We assured him garbage delivery was not part of our plan for the week. We have been renting homes on ponds in this part of Maine for years - this is by far the worst body of water we have ever been on. We had friends join us for a few days and we were embarassed. You can have a better experience on just about any pond in mid coastal Maine. Stay away from this one.
Our family enjoyed a peaceful week at this lovely home. It had all the amenities we needed for our large family, including 2 large bathrooms, a well equipped kitchen, quiet spaces for reading and puzzling, a fun game room and kayaks for exploring the pond! We swam every day, explored wild blueberry fields and hiked the local trails on the surrounding mountains. Rainy afternoons were spent in Camden at quaint shops and bakeries. Just a two hour ride brought us to Acadia National Park! Overall, we had a wonderful, relaxing week and hope to return next summer!
We have just returned home form a vacation in this wonderful part of maine, we were lucky enough to book this cottage last year, we had a wonderful stay, very quiet, very clean, very well furnished, absolutely great for families.
Can't wait to go back next for 2 weeks
