About the property

3BR - 2 bath - steps from Lake Michigan's Pere Marquette beach with deck, patio

Gorgeous beach house with views of Lake Michigan from nearly every window. The Spinnaker House has a large deck for sunning or having your morning coffee, a large patio for lounging and grilling in the shade, and a fire pit from where you can watch the spectacular sunsets over the water. This house if great for families, friends, and couples, with open floor plan, yet plenty of spaces for everyone. This is an All Season 3 level home, with plenty of outdoor space; unfortunately, it is not wheelchair accessible. Amenities include beach equipment, large weber grill, linens, washer/dryer, dish washer, and fans in every room; no need for air con, when you have the wonderful breezes off of Lake Michigan.

Two bedrooms are located on 2nd level and have queen-size beds; the 3rd level is a loft that features two sets of bunk beds with a single on top and full beds on bottom. This space is great for the younger set and features access to a full bath with double sinks and bathtub. The other full bath is located on 2nd level, also with a bathtub. Second level also features full kitchen, washer/dryer, indoor dining room, living room/sitting area, gas potbelly stove, and large deck with dining area and chaise lounge chairs. This second level also has duel slider doors for indoor/outdoor living feel. Lower level has duel sliders as well that open onto a large patio with dining area, outdoor living room, grill and area great for little ones playing in the sand. The indoor area of this lower level is a family room with couch, chairs, large flat screen tv, stereo, and DVD player. Quality Wireless internet accessible throughout home and decks. Paper products and soaps provided. There is driveway with room for parking 4 standard sized vehicles; this is also free street parking.

Pere Marquette was voted one of the Great Lakes top five beaches by National Geographic, and has received numerous clean-beach awards. There are also hiking trails just one house down through the woods and sand dunes that are wonderful for seeing wildlife or taking a midnight adventure. Children love to play on the huge sand mound and beach playground. Everyone can enjoy beach volleyball, swimming, kite surfing, walking to the lighthouse or sunning on the beach. The sunsets here are truly spectacular.

The Spinnaker rents weekly only from Sunday to Sunday in the high Summer Season (June 19, 2016-August 21, 2016) with more flexibility during other time periods. We also own two small cottages next door that each sleeps 4-6 people (2 bedrooms) that can be rented in conjunction for larger groups or for those groups that may require separate, more private accommodations. Please contact me with specific questions or for last minute deals.

Area Attractions: There are two great restaurants in walking distance, one a beach BBQ restaurant and one that is more upscale with many seafood options that is on the marina with live musics on weekends-also the USS Silversides Submarine Museum is in walking distance. Then there is the walking trails through the woods just down the street that are wonderful for all ages. This is your place to relax and get away from it all.

Nearby there are many other restaurants, championship golfing, a tourist trolley, Michigan Adventure amusement park, Double J Ranch, a spectacular farmer's market, blueberry picking, local breweries and wineries, a boat launch ramp, and docking. If you're a fisherman but don't want to bring your boat, you can fish from the pier; or you can charter a captained boat. Boat slips available within walking distance. The new high-speed ferry from Milwaukee to Muskegon is only a couple of miles away.

About Peggy Kleinert

My name is Tara Merlo, and I am helping my mother, Peggy Kleinert with renting out her house now, so she can travel more! My mother has been renting this house out for a few years now, but before that, this was her home, and the details show the care she has put in it over the years. The picture is of me and my family (all my pictures now are of my young daughter!)

Peggy Kleinert purchased this house in 2003

Why Peggy Kleinert chose Muskegon

Beautiful and on the beach!!

Nice Stay Overall but House Needs TLC

  • 3 of 5

The location of the property was excellent - right across the street from a clean beach and short walking distance to two decent restaurants (both with water views). The house has SUCH potential with a great layout and plenty of space for guests, but it hasn't been maintained, and we noticed. The house needs a major deep clean - some examples: carpets in the bedroom have stains, one of the mattresses has blood stains on the top, and the main floor bathroom shower was completely clogged (we purchased Draino and had to do three rounds before it was draining properly...makes me wonder how the cleaning staff actually cleaned the shower??). The oven didn't work properly, which the owners left directions of how to get it to the correct temperature, however, we still had difficulty with the oven getting too hot. Some of the windows wouldn't open, so we had to take the screens out and force them open; they need to be greased. I'm big on cleanliness and proper maintenance in a home, so the average guest may not notice or care about these types of issues! Just be aware that you are paying for more of the views you get with this house.

This was our first time to Muskegon. There are a lot of activities in the area, and a lot of shops and breweries nearby and in surrounding towns. We spent an afternoon in Grand Haven (about a 20-30 minute drive) which also has a lot to offer for all age ranges.

Such a nice place

  • 4 of 5

We had a very nice weekend. The view and location on the lake is amazing. The house was well stocked with kitchen stuff and linens. The only complaint would be the ladders getting up into the top bunk was a killer for adults. I am sure for kids it would be fine. Also, the 15 steps to the entrance was a bit of a surprise since we had our 90 year old Mother with us. Thankfully she is in pretty darn good shape, and could manage.

Beautiful Home for a Getaway

  • 4 of 5

We debated staying in Grand Haven or Muskegon for a vacation with family before everyone left Michigan for the summer. At first, driving into Muskegon gave the impression of decay. But after 4 days we were very impressed. The beaches, bike trails, friendliness was 5 stars. Lots to do. The house was big, comfortable, and relaxing. Peggy visited and was nice. The fire pit is nice, and having the laundry right there was nice. We also used the gas grill on the deck twice which was very nice. I wished we had a couple more days to stay. Bring fire wood, or buy at local gas stations. The bottom room was a little musty, but we didn't use it much. The stove was not working quite right, but the repairman was there when we left.

We Will Return!!!

  • 5 of 5

This place was amazing!! The view was incredible and we were very close to family in the area. There was more than enough room for everyone and we loved it! The HUGE sliding glass doors in the front, we left open every night allowing us to stay cool and wake up to the sounds of waves and intensely fresh air!!! The owner checked on us a few times through the week, NEVER a bother, and was so friendly she made us feel like family! The living room was so spacious and all open allowing us to sit and talk comfortably. The fire pit was a favorite of ours and we sat out after sunset and roasted marshmallow and talked with our family (who visited us at the beach house every night). The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed and there were so many towels we couldn't believe it! Everything was in great shape, but NOT so new that we were afraid to use anything or relax and enjoy ourselves! We had all ages from 1year, 8, 18, 23, 30, 45 ALL enjoyed this place!!!!

A+++ Love it and see ya next year!!!

Wouldn't be my first choice, but great location

  • 3 of 5

The view was beautiful and beach was awesome. The owner was very nice. The home itself needs some TLC. There were some safety concerns for my young children- the railing to go upstairs did not feel very stable, it was missing a spindle at the very top creating a space that a toddler or baby could easily fit through and fall to the level below. The metal chains that control the blinds were the continuous loop style which can be a strangulation concern. The oven didn't work (just got warm), the washing machine seemed to be leaking and the water damage in the basement ceiling tells me that it wasn't a new problem. We arrived and there wasn't any toilet paper (though she did bring some upon my request) and very little hand soap was there. The cleanliness was ok, some clean fanatics might not find it acceptable. Some of the windows were not fully functioning, and the ceiling fan switch was broken. On the plus side the kitchen was nicely stocked, as were the towels, linens and laundry soap. The decor was probably from '90s, so not super outdated but not super modern either. The house was generally nice, and really the main thing that would stop me from staying again was that the third "bedroom" was really a wide open loft and not a bedroom at all. Not good for people with young kids or light sleepers. They did have some beach toys, but not really anything for kids to play with inside. We did enjoy the porch and the patio though. Great views of the beach and great atmosphere.

Owner's Response: The majority of comments I have gotten on the decor are "It's much nicer than we expected and the view is outstanding" so I have been investing upgrade dollars on patio furnishings and landscaping. This past year I added a high-end conversation set (love seat, 2 chairs and coffee table) and new chairs for the table to the patio which is in the shade under the deck. I am glad you enjoyed them. I also added a sandbox next to the patio for toddlers. The planter box and stone path along the side of the house will be finished by next season. The ceiling fan does work via the switch but the remote has failed. I am not able to get a new one from the manufacture so I am trying to get it repaired before I go to the expense of replacing the fan. Concerns for small children have not been voiced before, but I will work on addressing them for next season. A baby gate can be put at the bottom of the stairs, but the walls are such that it is not possible to put one at the top of the loft stairs. Most couples with babies use the main floor bedrooms but school age children love the top bunks in the loft. I live nearby and respond to any reported problems as deemed necessary by the tenant. The nonworking oven or leaky washing machine had not been brought to my attention. I will address the issues of supplies with my cleaning crew as I do expect them to top off the soap dispensers and notify me when paper supplies are low. They address "once in a while" tasks as time permits in the change-over window so it is helpful if people leave them a note when they see something beyond the normal that needs to be cleaned. I like to have it "sparkling" and the cleaners came with great references. There is a basket of kids toys stored inside one of the end tables but maybe they weren't found or have been "depleted" by others during the season. There is also a supply of adult games and jigsaw puzzles for ages 6-adult in the other end table. For next year, I plan to eliminate some of the books and CD's to make room for storing the games and toys in an obvious location.
