We started going to Baja over 40 years ago. We loved the area, the fishing, the many activities and the people, so much, In 2000 we build our home, Casa Verde. We designed the house, oversaw it's building, designed and furnished the interior, designed and did most planting of the lush garden that now exists. It was a labor of love. We hope you like it a much as we do. We love to share the 'Baja Feeling'.
We are a couple who believe, 'The quality of life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of moments that take our breath away' (Author unknown)
Owner Owner purchased this house in 2000
It is very easy to explain why we bought and them built our vacation home on the East Cape of Baja. The property is on the beautiful shores of the magnificent Sea of Cortez. It is sunny more than 300 days of the year. The fishing is some of the best in the world. It is away for the crowds, some what like Cabo was 30 years ago. And the local people are warn, friendly and the true spirit of Baja. It's also a great place to wiggle your toes in the sand. The choice was easy, it makes us feel good. We hope it does the same for you.
Besides sun (average over 330 sunny days/yr.), fun, sand, and fishing, the list is too long for this space, but it is the best place to kick back, relax and wiggle your toes in the sand
My wife and I traveled to Baja last Feb. with our sons aged 10 and 13 for some sunshine. We had never stayed on the Sea of Cortz, and we really loved it. This property has a spectacular view of the sea; we saw whales most days in the distance. The property itself is very beautiful and well-maintained. Having a kitchen is important to us when we travel, and this kitchen was very well appointed. The bedrooms aren't directly connected to the house where the master is, which was fine for us, but if you have small kids, they might not like having to walk through the patio to find you at night.
We stopped at the big grocery store near the airport to stock up, which does have a wide selection. But if you do, don't buy any cooking oil, vinegar, etc. We found there were leftovers from previous guests. You might end up needing something, but the store in Los Barriles has a pretty decent selection. Also, if you are interested, I would recommend hiring Norma Romero to cook a meal for you. The owner should have her contact info.
We came in at night, which was a little scary on the road from the highway. If you do, watch out for cows! We also had a regular car and it was no problem - though if it's wet you might need more. If you do come at night during the off season (when the resort is closed), it can be tricky to figure out where to go. You might look at the satellite view in Google maps to see where the houses are relative to the resort.
As many others have reported, it's very peaceful there. Many days we would see no other person when we were walking on the beach. The snorkeling gear and kayaks were in great shape and a lot of fun. In order to get the kayaks down to the beach, you need to have two people who can together lift the kayak completely over their heads, in order to navigate the ramp leading down.
The owners of the property were great. They provided lots of information and were easy to contact. We had both the power and water go out while we were there, and they were on it right away, sending their maintenance guy to start the generator and pump respectively. You want to bring a cell phone that works there, since if the power goes out, the phone does too.
Finally, a big thanks to the owners. My wife left some fairly important jewelry behind when we left. The owners had their maintenance guy retrieve it and put it in their safe. Then when they returned to the house for a stay, they brought it back to the US and FedExed it to us. Way above and beyond!
My family and I stayed here during Spring Break 2015, and loved every minute of it. The drive in from the highway takes about 12-15 minutes, and is along a fairly well-maintained dirt road. We did not find that a four wheel or high clearance vehicle was necessary. The home is beautiful, spacious, has every amenity you would expect, and opens to a striking view of the water. The guest house is spacious and comfortable, and two additional bedrooms in the main house have separate entry, which is great for teenage kids or separate families. We used the outdoor grill to cook fresh dorado all week. The kitchen is well done and is stocked with cleaning supplies, towels, blender, cutlery, etc. We found everything we needed to prepare most of the meals we had during the week. The back patio is just high enough over the water to see everything (we saw whales, sea lions, fish) but close enough to feel like it is part of the property. We fished with and rented ATV's from the people recommended by the owners and could not have asked for better service. The master bed is very comfortable, and waking each morning to the sound of the surf could not have been better. We spent hours exploring the beach in both directions, and felt as though we had it to ourselves most of the time. The people in Los Barriles are kind, friendly, service-oriented, and appeared to welcome guests from the U.S. The owners were very easy to deal with, provided a lot of information, and responded to all of our pre-trip inquiries. We were very happy with our experience in this beautiful, and well-maintained home.
This property is simply stunning! If you want an out of the way place where you feel like you have the beach to yourself, this is the place! Take advantage of the peace and tranquility. Most days, we never saw another person. We fished from the shore and did well. There are basically 3 separate living spaces, with the main house being large enough for gathering. It was only about 10-15 minutes into Los Barriles. There were many great places to eat in town, but the town closes down earlier than Cabo. We aren't night owls so it was great for us. We went on a spectacular hike in the canyons above Santiago (a 30 min drive south) with Edguardo from Baja Sierra Adventures. AMAZING! Also drove up to La Paz for a Whale shark and sea lion tour. The drive was under 2 hours. The mountain road twists and turns but we didn't have any problems. It was a pretty drive. The home is comfortable and well equipped. The view from the deck is incredible! The house is right on the beach. If you want to party, stay in Cabo. If you want to get away from it all, stay here!
Look no further, book this home. Its beautiful, just as the reviews say - the design is warm, authentic, and reflects the owners love of their Baja home. We rented the entire compound - Fred & Marsha even made other arrangements to stay elsewhere so we could have the entire home, and give the casita to our newlywed friends that were traveling with us. The beach is wonderful, if you decide to leave their perfect patio. We were literally the only people on the beach for 3 days, a couple of wind surfers and ATV's cruised by - but that is about it! Fred & Marsha had excellent communication, they have home hosting dialed - you'll receive an excellent information packet prior to your departure and they even sent a custom Casa Verde tote to fill up at the grocery store. Wifi worked great, home has everything you need. Super serene & peaceful. When you travel into Los Barilles (which is a beautiful, short drive away) make sure you dine at El Pirate. Both nights we ventured out, we had the most excellent meals at this gem, highly recommended.
Casa Verde is a gem of a house on the Sea of Cortez, and it is that gem because of its owners, Fred and Marsha. They left no stone unturned in its authentic design and what it has to offer for vacationers who just want to relax in the beauty of the Eastcape or fish the beach below and beyond the house. Fred and Marsha have thought of everything their guests might need while staying in their beautiful home; they have snorkels to borrow, floaties, a kayak, a fish cleaning station, filtered drinking water, and air conditioners in their bedrooms. (The fishing can be excellent--we have had a lot of success fishing down here!) And that patio--we love that patio overlooking the Sea of Cortez where we drank our coffee and watched the sunrise every morning; napped on the lounge chairs in the afternoon; ate dinner at the patio table and played card games; and we finally we enjoyed evening margaritas and cervezas there as well. The beauty of Casa Verde and the Eastcape is unparalleled; we have stayed there three times with friends and family, and we will return for many more times to come.
I don’t think people realize how awesome the Rancho Leonaro area is... Los Barilles is about 15 minutes away but if feels like an hour. East facing, the beach patio provides you a breeze even in the hottest part of the day. My wife and I spend 5 days here, relaxing on the beach, fishing, and using the house as a home base for exploring around La Ribera, Punta Arenas, Cabo Pulmo and of course Los Barilles. Fred and Marsha are a wealth of local knowledge and are there when you need them but not intrusive in any way (they happened to be in town when we were there). I highly recommend this property over any property in the Los Barilles or Buena Vista area for its remoteness and the quality of the accommodations.
Casa Verde is 42 miles north of the Los Cabos International Airport, equidistant between Cabo San Lucas and La Paz. Casa Verde is on the shore of the Sea of Cortez, where the desert meets the sea. There is fun & adventure for the whole family. We have world famous deep sea and inshore fishing. Catch the marlin you have always dreamt about. A few hundred yards up the beach, you can charter a boat to go for sailfish, marlin, dorado, tuna, whoo, pargo and a variety of other great sport fish. There are miles of uncrowded sandy beaches to explore. Also, there is all the swimming , snorkeling, diving and kayaking you can handle. The kids love playing in the sand and building forts drift wood forts. Hike the near by hills and desert trails, rent ATVs & go four wheeling. On the shaded porch, relax with a book & your favorite beverage. Or, while being cooled by a gentle sea breeze, take a siesta. Do as much or as little as you wish. You will take home memories that will last a life time.
