We are sure you will enjoy this unit as much as we do!
We used to vacation in Troncones, Mexico which was very similar to Playa La Barqueta. When we arrived here late in 2008 we discovered the bottom corner unit available for sale and made the decision to buy it. We absolutely love it and relish the privacy. We installed a swinging gate on our patio which allows us to enter the condo from the sidewalk AND its only a 30 second walk to the restaurant next door. We have extensively explored the area by bicycle and have kayaked the refuge lagoon system and have placed maps on our website of some nearby kayak and bike rides to take. We hope others discover this wonderful paradise and can get out and explore the Barqueta Refuge next door.
We are avid cyclists and kayakers. After spending 2 months here we have barely touched upon all the possible kayak and bicycle opportunities. Richard has been actively recording all his GPS tracklogs while cycling and kayaking and can provide GPS coordinates to many landmarks. We enjoy a late afternoon ride to the La Siesta for a cool drink and to dance or continue a few miles further to the Tablado for a fruit smoothie. The people here are the friendliest we have ever met and we feel totally safe wherever we travel.
Hi Nina:We had a great time at your condo. Lynda, Jen, Jon and Brook lived in the pool for most of the time. You have done a great job on making your place at Las Olas very "friendly" for anyone staying there. Well thought out and nice touches on every turn. Good instructions, most small amenities - come with food and bathing suits and not much else to worry about.Absolutely - we will be back for another 'fix' soon. KenBoquete, Panama
We are a family of 5 who recently stayed in Nina's condo and were completely happy with our stay! It's a great unit with 3 bedrooms and plenty of common space. We loved the deck that looks right onto the beach and that you're only steps from the pool. It's crazy hot there so the air conditioning was essential and it worked perfectly. The grounds are neat and tidy, you feel safe and the beach is stunning! It's not a swimming beach but it's breathtaking!
I would give this 5 stars if the road getting to the area was better and it had a convenience store on or near the property with some basic staples like milk, eggs, bread... As well because the road is so bad coming into it, they encourage you to be back before dark. So not entirely ideal if you're wanting to explore other areas. It's a gorgeous spot but it's isolated. So as long as you get groceries before you arrive and are ok with being home before dark, you'll love it!
As well, Nina was great to deal with. Responding fast when emailed, and same with her friend who manages on site. Very helpful and informative.
The location was fabulous, right on the ocean and near but not directly in front of the olympic-sized pool so it was not too noisy. We were only steps to the soft sand beach and could hear the waves all through the day on that porch and all night while we slept. The condo was larger than the pictures show and we had plenty of space for our family of four to spread out. The master and all the other rooms were tastefully decorated and we could see the pride of ownership show throughout. Our host was extremely thoughtful and the instructions and helpful hints made for a great Christmas/New Year’s stay. Fireworks right on the beach! The location was secluded so that there were not mobs of other people, but there were enough other guests around which made you feel safe. The owner's local manager took care of all our needs perfectly. Las Brisas del Mar was definitely a great place to unwind and reconnect.
We had a wonderful stay at Playa Barqueta in this condo. It is very comfortable and modern and tastefully decorated. Great air conditioning, modern appliances, comfortable beds, quick access to the beach and the pool, we couldn't have asked for more. We really appreciated having the bikes and kayaks available and took full advantage. There is also an excellent restaurant next door. This area of Panama is great for biking, kayaking and birding and close to the highlands of Cerro Punta and Volcan Baru. We are already planning our next trip to Panama and will definitely stay here again. Thanks!
Excellent condo completely equipped with all one would need to truly feel at home. The condo was a fantastic place to stay. Comfortable with every thing you need to kick back and enjoy the pool ocean and surrounding area. Would not hesitate to stay again.
I spent a week with family in Playa La Barqueta and Nina's condo is the perfect place to stay. One may expect in a rental that the furnishings will be sub-par but in this condo, that is NOT the case. Each room is wonderfully furnished and uniquely decorated. This condo makes you feel at home. The kitchen has everything you'd want minus the actual food which can be bought at a local grocery store in David and the dishwasher and w/d were very nice to have. We had family staying elsewhere in Playa La Barqueta and they had several problems with their villa (incessant bugs INSIDE the villa; an inoperable washer/dryer; A/C not being efficient enough) but we had none of these problems at the condo. The condo is perfectly situated on the ground floor which is helpful when bringing in luggage and other items, and it is nice with the ocean breezes. Seriously, after playing tennis and also hanging out on the balcony, there must a 10 degree difference which is really refreshing. We visited in late May 2015 which is rainy season, and as we noticed, also a very quiet time of year. We basically had the common areas to ourselves, although be forewarned if you want to play tennis or have access to the sauna (even if there is literally nobody else around), the staff at Las Olas will initially say you must pay a fee (they told us $15/day), but once you provide the owners name they will grant you "access" via a wristband.
There is a lot to do in this area, even during quieter seasons such as late May. We walked on the beach, played tennis, swam in the pool and then spent most of our time elsewhere in and around Boquete. We hiked the highest peak in Panama (Volcan Baru), went ziplining at the Boquete Tree Trek, and did a coffee tour at Cafe Ruiz (with Carlos, an amazing tour guide). Overall, we just wish our stay in the area had been longer, but with that being said, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend Nina's condo or Playa La Barqueta for a nice, quiet, relaxing vacation literally ON the beach.
The condo was nice, clean and well cared for. The owner clearly cares about providing her guests with a nice, comfortable stay. The furniture is nice, the beds are nice, the fridge is large, there is a patio, there is clean drinking water, it is on the first floor so you don't have to take luggage up to the 3rd floor and the directions from David are extremely detailed (down to the nearest 1/100th KM!). My biggest hesitation before going there was that the picture of the pool was not a good picture and I was worried that it might be terrible. The pool was very nice. It was large and had a large portion that was about 1 foot deep and there were plenty of chairs and lounge chairs. I cannot give the condo 5 stars because Playa Barqueta didn't totally fit MY definition of paradise but it might fit YOUR definition of paradise. It was quite hot so we limited our midday activities. The beach is wide (150 feet at low tide?), endless, deserted and flat (easy for walking). The downside is that everyone tells you, "Don't get drowned by the undertow." I'm not sure what percentage of people die but when you listen to haters it makes it sound like 100%. The beach is so flat you'd think you could play around and have some fun in the water but we decided to not have our 9 year old out there taking his chances. So, if your definition of paradise includes playing freely in the ocean this location does not fit your definition. However, if you are looking for a remote beach and a nice place to stay this just might be paradise for you. Two traveling tips: The directions start from the "Rey" grocerty store in David. Do your grocery shopping for the entire trip right there. If you forget anything you're looking at a 30 minute drive back to town. There is a tiny grocery about 5 minutes from Playa Barqueta but if you need a weeks worth of groceries you want to load up at Rey. Make a list in advance. Condos don't always have oil, butter, spices, etc... so try to think of everything. Tip 2: The condo owner (Nina) arranged a fishing trip and jungle adventure for us w/ a local guy (Alexander). The fishing didn't work out but we saw 3 families of (poop throwing) howler monkeys. That was awesome and although the monkeys hit me w/ some branches they missed us with the poop. We'll never forget that!
The owners are avid cyclists and kayakers and can help with planning activities during your stay. Horse back riding is available.
