About the property

Villa, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 4 Baths, (Sleeps 8-11)

Our view is “180 degrees of pure paradise”. One of our guests creatively coined this phrase! Other’s have described our view merely as “unbelievable, breathtaking, incredible, spectacular, awe-inspiring, surely the best in 3,000 miles.” We are perched on the rugged coastline of St. Thomas, only 100 feet above sea level. The sounds of the waves, lapping against the gigantic boulders below, provide relaxing background music. Unwind in our cliffside swimming pool, crafted around one of the boulders, and enjoy the unobstructed views out through the Sir Francis Drake channel, with the numerous British Virgin Islands in site. You’ll discover ample opportunity for watching the parade of sailboats and yachts that glide by, or catching a glimpse of the occasional whale during their springtime migration, birds diving below for their lunch, or a sea turtle surfacing for a bit of air. Star gazing at night is just as gratifying, with shooting stars guaranteed.

Just like a favorite pair of jeans, we’re a place that you’ll feel most comfortable and welcome in. The villa sits under a massive banyan tree, surrounded by native greenery, giving it an almost magical appeal as you enter the property from the driveway. We’re decorated in a casually comfortable, yet elegantly refined, Caribbean style: A place where you can feel at home and relax into island living. The kitchen is equipped with every appliance and utensil you’ll need to craft a fantastic family dinner (or let one of our private chefs come and entertain you). Your rental includes all bathroom amenities, bath towels, hairdryers, beach towels, sheets, etc. All you need to bring is yourself, a swimsuit, and your food for the week, which can even be pre-delivered! As guests have noted: “Our snorkeling, shopping and golf was fun, but getting back to the Three Palms was the best part of the day ... The care and attention that you put into your guests far exceeded our expectations.”

Magens Bay Beach is just a short two mile drive from the villa. Magen’s is ranked as one of the ten most beautiful beaches in the world by National Geographic. Magen’s is perfect for family gatherings, with very little surf, wonderful soft white sand, trees for shade, and picnic benches for dining. There is also a water sports center, as well as restaurant and bar, at the beach.

Peterborg Point, where the villa is located, is a very safe and prestigious neighborhood, and is enjoyed by many fitness buffs for AM and PM walking and jogging. Our gated community of Red Rock has approximately 25, well spaced, home-sites and lots. Three Palms sits at the end of a cul-de-sac, and offers a very secluded feel, yet we are centrally located and about a 15 minute drive to most areas of interest, including the airport, Charlotte Amalie, Red Hook and the ferry docks.

Bedrooms have optional A/C for an extra $10/bedroom/night (12 hrs). This can be decided once you get here, by the night and by the bedroom. Should you anticipate this added expense? Dec-Mar it generally is not needed. Apr-Jun+Nov it may be desired. Jul-Oct it probably will be desired. More than 50% of our guests prefer to hear the ocean at night, with our beautiful breezes to lull them to sleep. This optional amenity is available via an honor system, and payable in cash upon departure. Or it can be added at the time of booking (if you know you'll be wanting it).

About Victoria Prehn

My name is Victoria Prehn, and as your hostess and owner of the property, I’ve been welcoming guests into my home since 2003. I’ve been a resident of the Virgin Islands since 1991, moving here after the death of my younger brother and a stop-over on a cruise. Life is short, and I decided to ditch corporate America for island living. During an economic downturn in 2000, I luckily stumbled upon the property, and immediately fell in love with her amazing serenity and awe-inspiring oceanfront scenery under an ancient banyan tree. As a graduate of Cornell University’s hotel administration program, the property seemed a perfect way to utilize my education in hospitality. After extensive renovations, the home was opened to short term rentals in July 2003. I was one of the very first properties to be listed on sites such as VRBO and HomeAway, in an emerging market of “rental by owner”. It’s been an amazing experience to share my love of St. Thomas and my home with hundreds of adventurous travelers from around the world over the past decade.

I reside, with my two cats, below the main villa level of the property in a two bedroom caretakers apartment. The apartment is out of view from the guest area and has it’s own back entrance. I like to tell my guests that I’m available as MUCH or as LITTLE as needed during your stay.

I'm originally from Ravenna, Ohio, a small town outside of Cleveland. Following college graduation, I spent 4 years between New York City and Dallas as a Market Study and Real Estate Consultant with Kenneth Leventhal & Company for clients such as Donald Trump & Ritz Carlton. Corporate burnout and a death in the family inspired a move to St. Thomas, and for twenty years I served as founder and president of PC Paradise, the Apple and Hewlett Packard computer dealer to the Virgin Islands. I sold the business in 2012, and now spend my time providing life coaching, business consulting and web development to entrepreneurs.

Victoria Prehn purchased this villa in 2000

What makes this villa unique

To quote our contractor (and many past guests): 'There isn't a better view, than the view from this house, on St. Thomas!' The home offers a secluded feel that one can truly relax into. St. Thomas is a small island, and we are centrally located in a gated community, making most points of interest only a 10-15 minute drive. Catching rays on the deck, and cooling off in our pool is a real treat. And you can't beat the star gazing! Falling asleep to the soft sound of the ocean helps quiet the mind, and makes for a wonderful night's sleep.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Effective February 1, 2012, we are pleased to offer Air Conditioning as an optional guest amenity. If you want it, you got it! Please email us for further details.

A good fit for our family

  • 4 of 5

We started looking a year in advance for a place to stay while we were in St. Thomas for our 'weddingmoon' vacation. We planned to bring family, so we needed a place that would accomodate up to 11 people. As luck would have it there ended up being only 5 of us so there was more than enough room in this spaceous house. My 10 year old really loved the little pool for taking a dip, even after all the beach swimming we did. I must admit the adults enjoyed relaxing in the pool too, with a drink in hand as we watched the sun set. We loved being so close to Magens Bay as it was one of our favorite beaches, although the island is small, so the drive to Coki (our favorite beach) wasn't too bad either. The view was fantastic and comments about the amazing view came to be a running joke with our group ("I don't know if you noticed, but this place has an amazing view"). We even got a few great photos of us in our wedding attire at the house with the banyan tree or the ocean in the background. Victoria was very non intrusive during our visit, but we knew we could pop in if we needed anything. The house was a bit more run down than the pictures showed, but we came to the island to see the beaches and other sights, not to sit at the house, so we didn't mind. The kitchen was well appointed, and we had no trouble whipping up meals with the items on hand. There were plenty of towels for beach trips and a cooler for us to use to bring to the beach as well as flippers and other beach 'goodies'. The only thing that we weren't prepared for was for there to be quite so many mosquitos. We brought one can of bug spray, but it wasn't nearly enough for the week. Thankfully there was some left behind by other previous guests, as we needed to spray frequently. For those who choose to stay at the three palms the only bit of advice I have to give (other than to bring plenty of bug spray) is to be sure to peek in the refrigerator before you do your grocery shopping. There may be condiments, sauces, jellies, etc. already and it can save you the trouble of buying something that you already have. We forgot to look, and ended up buying jelly, even though there was a practically full jar there already! Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our trip and would encourage those with larger groups to give three palms a try.

awesome family vacation.

  • 4 of 5

Three palms was absolutely the perfect spot for our 11 family members. The home was comfortable and inviting. The view is absolutely as remarkable as the photos. Yes, the house needs a little sprucing up, but that did not matter one little bit. We had an absolutely incredible trip. We didn't want to come home. Thank you Spencer for rescuing us when we were lost. Navigation was definitely an adventure! I think next time we will have the kitchen prestocked for us. Trying to find a market was tough. We will most definitely consider staying here again if we come back to St. Thomas. Vicious and Spencer are wonderful hosts.

Fantastic place!

  • 5 of 5

We came to St Thomas to celebrate my husbands birthday. There were 9 of us that stayed in the house and it was big enough to give everyone their space and the gathering areas were cozy enough for us to enjoy being together! Victoria and Spencer were the ultimate great hosts, even providing whale sightings!! Anything we needed for our stay was there including beach mats for out trips to the beautiful beaches in the area. The kitchen had all the utensils and pots and pans that we needed to do a good bit of cooking too! Everyone had a very comfortable experience with Three Palms Villa!! I would recommend this place to anyone that wants to have a wonderful relaxing visit with friends or family!!!

I have never felt more at home on vacation

  • 5 of 5

I teach at a small high school with a graduating class of 5. They raise money for four years to go on a senior trip and we were lucky enough to be able to afford St. Thomas and this beautiful villa. As soon as we entered the door, I felt at home. The villa feels like your family owns an ocean retreat and you dropped by for a visit. The living areas are spacious and comfortable, the kitchen well stocked but simple, and the bedrooms and bathrooms are laid out well. The main house sleeps seven comfortably and the detached cottage another four. The cottage is close enough to feel like part of the house, but far enough away to give four teenage girls their privacy. It is not quite spacious, but very comfortable.

The house is designed to take advantage of the stunning views. There is a lot of open deck area facing east with great views of St. Johns, Thatch Cay, and Hans Lollik. A small Japoolzi is built around a rock right on the edge of the deck. It also looks out at the amazing views. We did not use the pool as much as we planned, but our dips were relaxing. There was a consistent breeze which kept the house cool in the evening. The landscaping gives the cabin a jungle secluded feel with the occasional iguana wandering through. It is located in a gated community and we had no qualms whatsoever of leaving our valuables in the open house while we adventured around the island.

Spencer and Victoria are excellent owners. They were immediately responsive to our questions and concerns and worked quickly to resolve the few minor issues we had. Most of those issues resulted around island wide power outages and Spencer was up immediately with flashlights and candles when the power went out. Spencer also gave us very good information about where to go and what to see. Through him we found out Magen’s Beach, which is a few short minutes away, stops charging admission at 5pm. He planned our days around evening sunset swims at the beach and it was wonderful. We had the beach to ourselves and the water was delightful. Make sure to book Spencer for a cruise on his sailboat. It was one of the highlights of the trip.

The driveway is steep with a sharp turn at the top, just like most of the roads on St Thomas. You will need a rental car, and get one with good clearance. It is a little bit of a drive to get to restaurants and attractions, but it is no more than 20 to 25 minutes away from downtown and Red Hook.

I would stay here again in a heartbeat and recommend it highly.

Best view ever

  • 4 of 5

My family just completed our week's stay at Three Palms Villa.

First let us tell you what this facility is not: It is not an all inclusive resort with unlimited amenities and continual entertainment.

Here is what it offers:

A spacious, clean, and comfortable home with one of the most incredible views we have ever experienced. And we are very well traveled. We have done the Hawaiian Islands, the Mediterranean, the Keys, the Outer Banks, and Pacific Coast ,etc. We have never stayed at a place with a better view, or at which we felt more at home. The home is not air conditioned, and it was a little warm during the days. However, we found that it cooled down nicely in the evenings and we all slept very well.

The home and interior are well maintained and the furnishings and decor are in good taste. There is nearly as much outdoor space on the large decks as there is indoor space. The kitchen is fairly simple, but we found it to be very adequate, and we were very pleased by the many little extras such as cooking spices, coffee filters, beach towells, blankets, bandages. We also enjoyed the fully stocked bar. (they only ask that you leave your own liquor pruchases to help restock) We ate most of our meals on site, and we especially enjoyed eating our evening meal on the large picnic table on the deck at sunset. The pool is not a lap pool, but we enjoyed our daily afternoon soak in the cool water as we watched the Atlantic just beyond the edge of the pool deck.

There were five in our group, including two fifty-somethings, and three young adults between 21 and 25. We had plenty of space and ample privacy. We found the beds to be comfortable.

If you don't need to be entertained by lavish nightlife; if you are looking for a nice place to bond with loved ones or friends surrounded by spectacular views, in a truly relaxed enviroment, then this place merits your consideration.
