The four-bedroom and three full bath with showers , lakefront home on Squam Lake is a large and gracious two-story cabin, built in 1937 in warm camp style. If you've seen the classic movie 'On Golden Pond', you will recognize beautiful Squam Lake. This camp has all the charm of Henry Fonda and Katherine Hepburn's cabin; and it's bigger -- with all the comforts of modern family living.
The shoreline has a soft sandy area that's excellent for swimming or you can enjoy star-gazing in the quiet cove. There's a roomy dock and swim float anchored offshore. The generous setting is perfect for family times and restful rejuvenation.
Happy sounds of family gatherings will resound from the natural pine walls, ceilings, and hardwood floors. At the center of the big living room there is comfortable seating around the brick fireplace. Everyone loves to gather here. Built-in storage bins have games and craft supplies.
The recently added great room, with its native American decor and cathedral ceiling, can function as a family room, den, an office, or a guest or extended family space. The desk area looks out to pines, the dock, Squam Lake, and islands. Adjacent to the great room is a large first floor bath with shower.
Firewood is stacked in neat piles next to the woodshed. Once the fire is crackling, the grand oak dining table (made from the property's own fallen timber during the hurricane of '38) is THE hub for family dinners and games.
In the renovated kitchen, two sinks and two refrigerators make meal preparation fun. There's plenty of room for the hustle and bustle, while snacking and talking. The kitchen is fully stocked with kitchen utensils and multiple sets of china (including some in a Squam Lake loon motif) and plenty of glassware.
In addition to the four full bedrooms and two baths on the second floor (two queen and one twin bed room look out to the lake, and another twin room looks out to the pines), there are other sleeping options through out the home.
An additional twin bed on the screened-in porch is a moon-watcher's joy. For the kids, a sleeping loft for three looks over two queen pull-outs in the great room. Another queen pull-out provides for fireside sleeping in the living room. And Junior Manor, a separate outdoor guest cabin, has a queen-size bed and a bunk bed for kids. You can fall asleep to sound of the loons on Squam Lake. We provide all linens, pillows, blankets, and towels. A laundry room is adjacent to the downstairs bathroom, with a washer, dryer, and storage for beach towels.
Enjoy looking out from your bedroom at the water lapping against the shore. Enjoy settling down in Adirondack chairs on the dock -- or in the rocking chair on the screened-in porch. Put your feet up on the large outdoor deck, which is great for a buffet lunch. Look out to Squam Lake and islands -- or down to the dock, to watch the kids playing. Then look up to the tall white pines that are frequented by hummingbirds.
Listen to the loons under a full moon.
In the morning, take a canoe ride and watch the sunrise over shimmering Squam Lake. Daytime is for sunning on our extra large dock and swimming in the clear waters or wading at our the sunny sandy shoreline. Take a boat ride or go fishing -- and enjoy the breathtaking scenery of jewel-like Squam Lake. Next, curl up with a book on the floating raft.
A five-minute drive down the road to the trail for Rattlesnake Mountain provides a glorious view and moderate hike. At sunset, get out on the lake and see the loons and the incredible colors.
A wooden walkway from the main house takes you mere steps away to the L-shaped expansive floating dock. A canoe, two kayaks, sunfish and small motorboat are available for your use. A raft is anchored about 50 yards off the dock, and is great for swimming and diving. Or it's a haven of floating tranquility -- to get away from it all (or THEM all!) for few minutes of lake side day dreaming.
We are a large extended family who grew up in Hingham, MA and always have loved the summers at the lake. Our family began by first renting on Squam Lake and then were so lucky to purchase and spend all our growing up years here every summer. Now continuing that happy tradition, we have children and grandchildren coming here for part of the summer for a continuation of close family times in this precious place. We are stewards of the lake and want to share its natural unspoiled beauty and preserve the lake as a haven for wildlife, like loons and eagles forever!
Janet Beach purchased this house in 1961
This is our special spot ...the one where the true meaning of extended family fun and love is played out every year at our family reunions. For 50 years, we have happily rented to families like our own, who want spend time to be together and renew family close feelings. We are genuinely delighted that every summer our renting families tell us the loving spirit of our cabin and special location on the lake comes through to them bringing their families together in so many positive ways. This place is special and is all about happy rejuvenating times for families !
The atmosphere of calm and beauty that is only found in a classic cabin lake shore location, with enough "elbow room" to relax, and offers so many ways to really enjoy the lake -in our canoe, kayak, putt putt motor boat, or sailboat, is what we think makes our home so inviting. We feel an immediate joy as soon as we arrive. AAAh we can focus on relaxation and simple pleasures. The combination of being "away from it all" and yet close to so much that is fun in the Lakes Region make it ideal for a large extended family groups. We are so close to an easy gorgeous hike on Rattlesnake Mtn. or a trip to the Squam Lakes Science Center or an outing to the fresh vegetable market nearby. We have so many spaces to drink in the lake view -looking at the lake from the deck or screened porch or enjoying a good book in the sunshine or fishing down on the dock. Some may need to check those text messages and email, but up at our lake place, most want to get all that over with quickly and go back to enjoying nature and family fun because it is just so beautiful and restorative to be in this perfect spot!
To the Lee Family:
" We thoroughly enjoyed your lovely camp for our cousins reunion this weekend.
Everyone loved the lay-out and your comfortable, well-done décor.
I believe we were good stewards of your special spot and we so appreciate your lending it to us.
You were so right about a well-equipped kitchen.
There wasn’t anything anyone missed having.
The two fridges are very handy to have as are two sinks. Some of us hiked, a couple of us kayaked and we generally renewed our cousins' connection and family news, recharged and reminisced. Our last full day was a windy, choppy day on the lake and we went on the last Nature Science Center boat cruise of the day. IT was a day for loon spotting and we were lucky. It was so informative and we came away even more appreciative of this area. Hope we all get back for our next "girl" cousins reunion in the next year or two.
Our family LOVED our stay at this Squam Lake home. It provided all the amenities that we could need. The location on the lake was wonderful! We spent the majority of our time on the spacious dock just relaxing, swimming, fishing, nature watching, etc. The home is conveniently located just a short drive away from grocery stores, etc. There is also great hiking to be had just a short drive away as well. The owners were great to work with and available to answer questions as needed. We would definitely recommend this property and hope to return again in the near future.
This was the perfect vacation home for our multi generational family vacation. We had family members coming in from New Orleans, New York, Waterville Valley and Kittery Point, ME - the owners of the home provided great directions to the property and despite the unfamiliar surroundings there was not one problem. Upon arrival, we found the accomodations absolutely perfect. The layout of the house was perfect for large family dinners, yet separate enough for each family to gather for individual times of creating memories. The dock and lake access was wonderful for our youngest family members right on up to our most senior family members. Everything we needed in the way of linens, dishes, pots and pans - was right there at the home! The proximity to the township was very convenient for anything we needed in the way of groceries, with a farm stand on the way to the cabin! The owners did everything they said they would do, which is a rarity in this virtual world! The key arrived in a timely fashion, we found the home clean and ready for our family, the maintenance man came exactly at the right time to take the garbage, and the housekeeper was very accomodating! I would highly recommend this home for your next family get away because the owners know the value of gathering as a family because it seems they have been doing it for generations!
