Getting to Placencia...
Fly into Belize International Airport and then take a 35 minute flight to Placencia airstrip via one of the local Belize airlines (Tropic Air or Maya Island Air). The other option is to rent a vehicle at the international airport and take a scenic 3.5 hour drive to Placencia.
Belize is often referred to as one of the Seven Underwater Wonders of the World. The world's second largest barrier reef runs parallel to its coast. However, the barrier reef is not the only factor that makes Belize one of the world's most popular destinations for scuba divers and snorkelers.
Many of the small islands, known as 'cayes,' that lie off the coast of the Belizean mainland have their own coral reefs, with spectacular underwater gardens teeming with sea life of all types.
The clear turquoise waters (which average 79-84 degrees) and the proximity of the barrier reef make Belize a favorite destination for divers and snorkelers. The ocean floor ranges from 5 to 35 feet, so both divers and snorkelers have the opportunity to swim in what seems like an underwater aquarium, teeming with colorful tropical fish of all sizes and types and beautiful coral formations.
The 'cut' (channel) leading out to sea functions as a sort of 'fish freeway' for many large fish, including giant groupers, barracuda and nurse sharks, a timid and unaggressive shark species. Divers and snorkelers may enjoy a close encounter with a sea turtle.
Fishing in Belize
Belize is a mecca for those interested in fishing. All kinds of fishing: spin, fly, trolling - can be experienced all year long, and the abundance of game fish guarantees excellent sport.
The estuaries, inlets and mouths to the many rivers are known for their tarpon, snook and jacks. The lagoons and grass flats are known for the bonefish, permit and barracuda. The coral reefs support grouper, snapper, jacks and barracuda while the deeper waters off the drop off are home to sailfish, marlin, bonito and pompano.
Fishing is great all along the coast of Belize. Any of the many rivers which empty into the Caribbean along Belize's coasts can guarantee a daily catch. Most of your guides and boatmen speak English so learning where and what to fish will be no problem.
The waters surrounding Placencia abound with a great variety of saltwater fishing and the area boasts some of the best fishing guides in the country. Most types of fish, including bone fish and tarpon, can be caught year-round. Within 15 minutes of leaving the dock, you can be fishing in tidal flats or in blue water hundreds of feet deep.

Connie and Sidney live in Texas and plan to retire in Placencia, Belize.
The Owner purchased this condo in 2013
We fell in love with this property in Belize because of the location, the views, and the wonderful people of Belize. We purchased the condo as a vacation/retirement home.
We lucky enough to stay in this gorgeous condo earlier in January. It was even prettier than the pictures and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The neighborhood is quiet, the sunsets were gorgeous, the maintenance staff helpful and the kitchen was perfect for whipping up frothy tropical drinks or fresh lobster tails on the grill. We loved riding the bikes and our friends enjoyed the kayaks several times during our stay.
Do yourself a favor and rent this amazing and well-appointed condo in paradise! The owners are great to work with and you won't regret it!
Placencia is such a cool and laid back town, that fits a great Vacay! The condo was perfectly placed with awesome accessibility and View. The beach was perfect for just swimming long miles ,so goggles and bright caps were a perfect addition. Then ,Oceanside restaurants and bars were right there to indulge afterwards. We enjoyed also great food and we spent all the calories on the End of World Marathon on Dec6 with tons of locals and tourists, which for the running enthusiast should be a must ;)
we had a wonderful time in Placencia. the condo was excellent. everything was exactly as stated. the condo area was very quite and restful but close enough to town to enjoy going there often for eating and etc.
We were SO pleased with this condo. Our stay was for one week, and it was just perfect. The condo was decorated pretty, it was very clean, and it was well stocked. The views are absolutely breathtaking from each side!!! Porches are located on each side, so throughout the day you have sun on one side and shade on the other-perfect! The groundkeeper was very helpful and nice. The owners were extremely helpful, kind, and assessable to us. No need for transportation as the village is a safe short walk away. We are looking forward to our next trip Placencia! Connie is awesome! On overall accommodations we would give it a 10+
We hope to go back to Placencia and stay in this amazing condo!!!
This condo is in a beautiful location and has all the amenities you need for a week stay. The condo was clean, well stocked, and has the most amazing views! I enjoyed every morning sitting out on the large porch drinking my coffee and enjoying the view. We will most definitely try to make it back soon! The only thing I would say is that there is construction going on across the waterway and it was a bit noisy during the day.
We have been to Placencia many, many times, and this was our first time staying at Sunset Pointe. We were very pleasantly surprised at how nice the area was, and the accommodations were perfect for my wife and I, my wife's parents, and our 2 young children. Great views from the crow's nest, great pool for the kids, easy (and frequent) use of the bikes and kayaks. We ate outside on the front porch for every meal. Just a short bike ride or walk into the village, but far enough away to not have any noise. I would definitely consider staying here again on our next visit.
