The Sea Sanctuary - Beach Front, Hot Tub, Stunning Newer Home

Bedrooms 3
Half Baths1
Space 2,650 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2.5+ Baths, (Sleeps 4-10)

This magnificent custom designed home - The Sea Sanctuary - is situated just a hundred yards from the sand with 180 degree whitewater views. A seal colony can be found 1/2 mile to the south and exceptional tidepooling can be found directly in front of the home. A bike/walking trail runs along the ocean as well. Enjoy a solitary walk along the beach - in fact you could walk for miles and miles in secluded exploration of beach and sandy dunes. Radiant floor heat and a wood-burning fireplace can make this rental extra cozy in the winter. Elevated decks both front and rear allow for enjoyable outdoor living as well. A Jacuzzi-brand hot tub sits on the front deck from which you can watch and listen to the ocean's roar, see the pelicans glide by, and at night watch thousands upon thousands of stars.

To take advantage of the great view, the main living area in the house is on the 2nd floor, including the master bedroom, kitchen, living room and den, all with gorgeous bamboo floors. A 5x7' loft in the living room accessible from a built in ladder is a great place to play a game of cards, relax with a book or have a private conversation. Kids always want to sleep up there on the carpeted floor, and adults sometimes do too! Directly under the loft is the window seat - the most popular spot in the house - where another guest can sleep quite comfortably if desired. The 42' wall-mounted flat screen TV is in a smaller den attached to the living room. The double doors on the den close, keeping the viewing noise from infiltrating the peacefulness of the rest of the house. One or two people can sleep privately on the den's pull-out sofa sectional.

A gourmet custom granite and bamboo kitchen with double oven, All-Clad Cookware, Dishwasher, Kitchen Aid Mixer, and other appliances make cooking or baking a joy for small or larger groups.

Downstairs, you enter through the slate entry area to find a photography gallery/carpeted open yoga/exercise area which includes two futons for yet another sleeping spot. it's also a great place for kids to play if you want them to have their space separate from the rest of the group. The primary downstairs bedroom has a wonderful view facing out to the ocean. The Japanese-style tatami meditation room has been converted to a bedroom with a queen futon topped with a 2 1/2' thick memory foam pad. The room can be easily converted back to a meditation room if preferred.

The Sea Sanctuary is truly a beautiful home which can help to make your vacation by the sea very relaxing and extra memorable.

To sum up, there are many sleeping options:

- Bedroom - king bed

- Den/TV room - Full-size pull-out sofa sleeper - purchased from Macy's but still not the most comfortable

- Fireplace nook off the living room - queen futon and regular couch

- Window seat - comfy sleeping for one

- Loft - 5' x 7' carpeted area can sleep a child or two on the floor

- Bedroom - queen bed

- Tatami Bedroom - queen futon with memory foam

- Exercise/play area - queen futon + single futon

(there is also a nice queen size memory foam mattress topper available - 2 1/2' thick - which can make sleeping on one of the futons a more comfortable experience).

About Ted Seymour

Many interests including writing, photography, travel and healthy food preparation. I love spending time in the home myself too. Such a magical place to recharge, gather with people special to me, and stroll the ever changing beach.

Ted Seymour purchased this house in 2007

Why Ted Seymour chose North Coast California

I came to this area on a road trip in 1998 and rented a small home just behind the lot where this home is now located. I woke up in the morning and the view included a 'for-sale' sign for this land. I hadn't even been looking to buy something, but it was so beautiful here that I panicked and put in an offer that day. The next day, they accepted my offer and the rest is history. I personally designed the home and actually built it myself too, completing it in 2007. Oh happy day!

It is simply a stunning location, very quiet, yet still near to town, endless views to the north and south.

What makes this house unique

Easy beach access - no cliffs to worry about slipping down. About 100 yards or so outside the front door and you are in the sand. The house is very well stocked and maintained as the owner lives in the home for part of the year.

Discounts available for horseback riding at local stable, and sea kayaking. Ask owner for info or see postings in kitchen of home upon arrival.

Wonderful house - magnificent views but......

  • 4 of 5

We have rented homes in this specific area for 25+ years and our recent stay at Sea Sanctuary was our first. On the surface it is a stunning house with the best views we have ever had. Spent our evenings sitting in the front window watching the sun go down. Unfortunately the house was not as clean as we are used to or expected given the rental rate. The upstairs main bathroom at first look appeared clean and neat but pulling back the shower curtain revealed lots of mildew around the tub and a shower curtain that was filthy. Having stayed in the area so much we are aware that the water can cause lots of stains but if that is what causes the shower curtain to look so filthy then for the price of the rental a new one should be provided for each new renter - they are not expensive. Honestly Holiday Inn Expresses have much cleaner bathrooms and showers. We are cooks and found the kitchen to be a fun place to cook - had everything we needed. Again cleanliness was lacking especially in the sink - it could have used a good scouring as well as the dishwasher - not only did it have a lot of grunge in it, it smelled. If the water is the culprit for the kitchen sink and dishwasher - not sure how this can be alleviated. A little clearer explanation of the recycling of what goes where would have been a big help as we are not from CA. We recycle in our hometown but differently and I am sure we got some things in the wrong bin.

When we rented Sea Sanctuary, Ted was very helpful in answering our questions and pleasant to work with. Will not say that we would not rent Sea Sanctuary again but would certainly be more assertive in our cleanliness expectations. The house lends itself to total relaxation and rest, very calming and the setting could not be more perfect.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your comments Larry. I'm glad you and your wife enjoyed staying at the Sea Sanctuary and found that the home and oceanfront location provided for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. The shower liners have been replaced with high quality liners and new hooks which will make removal and washing/bleaching a regular part of our home preparation. My caretaker as well noticed the dishwasher after your stay and scrubbed it to a polish. Unfortunately it had slightly clogged with food particles. We always strive to offer a high level of cleanliness to our renters and very much appreciate your constructive feedback. Hope to have you back another time.

The best vacation home we've stayed in!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had such a wonderful time staying at The Sea Sanctuary over Christmas. Ted has created such a welcoming, calm, comfortable and sweet space, which is excellent for a large group as there is plenty of space to spread out but also a large, open common area that lends itself perfectly to being together, sharing meals, etc.

The home is incredibly well appointed, complete with kitchen appliances, a state of the art sound system, games, books, comfortable (and ample) sleeping accommodations, and the list goes on. The location also can't be beat as it is right on the ocean and just outside the doorstep there are gorgeous beach walks/hikes in both directions.

Ted was also an excellent host -- he was very responsive both before and during our stay; he checked in on our group several times during our stay and proactively offered suggestions regarding the home and area; and when we informed him that something broke during our visit he was very professional and gracious in handling the situation.

Our family has stayed at many VRBO and Airbnb homes, and I think I can honestly say this is one of the best, if not the best, home we've stayed in. We hope to be back someday soon!

Warm, comfortable, uplifting, tranquil, amazing!

  • 5 of 5

Sometimes trying to choose a meeting place for 10 relatives to celebrate an important occasion is a daunting and sometimes overwhelming

task at best. You look at sometimes hundreds of locations and homes until one of those sticks out in your mind.

The Sea Sanctuary was just this place. It is as pictured but what isn't in the picture is the feeling you get when you walk in and see the amazing

and always changing ocean from the front windows of the home. Very well stocked, user friendly appliances, and outside seating for any part

of the day. Here you can take your shoes off (an amazing collection of slippers available ) and feel like you are home. Location spot on !

I have been in Fort Bragg before but seeing it this time I realized what I love about it, it's not presumptuous, you don't have to put your makeup on or dress to the nines to feel you fit in, you can walk, relax, sleep or sightsee, or eat as you please, no scheduling must be done to enjoy it at a moments notice.

Ted was always within reach and very responsive through out the process. Not often you rent a home from someone and you want to keep in contact with and invite to your home.

We all know we want to be back here at some future date to re -connect and spend more time enjoying each other and the surroundings.

Good location and great beach

  • 3 of 5

The beach was great. The house was ok. There were two befrooms in addition to the master and a sleeping futon in a separate room. The house had sand everywhere but after quite a lot of hoovering it was reasonably clean. Kitchen and master br are upstairs which made for a great view but a bit of a climb with groceries. The kitchen was well equipped.

Fort bragg had two shops, Safeway and an another one, I have forgotten the name but it was a really good one, definitely to recommend. Otherwise a nice little town.

Owner's Response: I am disappointed to read this review and my caretaker was horrified. She's has been working for me for 2 years and is truly a preofessional. When she cleans, she finishes by vaccuuming the entire home, carpets and wood floors and sweeps the stairs. The Sea Sanctuary hasa very strong track record of 5-star reviews and I work very hard to keep it that way. I ask guests to refrain from wearing shoes in the home and to rinse theiir feet outside when returning from the beach specifically to avoid sand being tracked into the home. Not sure what happened here, but i assure future guests that it is far from the norm and nowhere near the expectations I have for how the home is presented to guests.

Fantastic: House, Location, and Owner!

  • 5 of 5

The location of this property is absolutely fantastic, with unobstructed views of the ocean and a couple of minutes of walking to the beach. I've rented various houses in Fort Bragg at least twenty times over the decades, and never have we stayed at a location with a more attentive, helpful, and kindhearted homeowner. Now on to the house.

The house itself is spacious, and has the feeling of a luxurious, spiritual, highly functional home. We stayed with the maximum number of people allowable, and never once did we feel too crowded or in each other's space. The age group with us ranged from one year of age to the late 60's, and let me tell you that this house worked for all of us. For visitors that have small children and may be concerned about the stairs, you can use one of the couches as a baby-gate (or bring your own baby-gate). My wife and I and our youngest daughter slept in the tatami room, and loved it; we found the bed to be extremely comfortable. The kitchen had all the utensils and cooking hardware that one could need. The spa is in the best location on earth for a spa. Writing this review has made me miss it so much! Thank you for making our stay wonderful, Ted!
