Marilly Morton purchased this lodge in 2008
We love the mountains, and Packwood is very like Switzerland, only the mountains are smaller and farther apart. It is in the center of Gifford Pinchot Nat'l Forest, 7 miles from the southern entrance to Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park, and surround by Tatoosh, William O Douglass, and Goat Rocks Wilderness areas. There is a constant flow of wildlife including: elk, coyotes, raccoon, fox, black bear, bald eagles, beaver and more, and year round recreational activities.
I enjoy being outside in the hot tub under a star studded sky with wood smoke on the wind from the fire pit while elk pass by, what a combination! Throwing snowballs from the hot tub in the midst of winter made for a great memory and photo shoot. Indoors offers every comfort from home and even more with a far infrared sauna to soothe tired muscles. I never tire of watching the many faces of Mt. Rainier or the elk and birds at the Lodge. It's a great place for dreaming!
Just wanted to say a BIG THANKS for a wonderful weekend with our entire family!! The place was in tip-top condition and more than we were expecting. The place was perfect for us with sleeping, eating (love the BIG table), relaxing...the view and weather couldn't have been better!!
We went on day hikes in the area, found our church services in Morton for Sunday (we are Mormon) and appreciated your generous hospitality to open such a lovely home for us to enjoy together.
We loved the campfires at night and visiting around them. It was nice to have all 6 of our children gathered around the campfire and enjoy conversations and look into all their faces...truly a beautiful sight!!
Anyway, I don't know if you get to hear from your renters, but we absolutely LOVED our time there and say THANKS for having us!!
We enjoyed the house, view, woods and trails, fire pit, hot tub, and location. The house is modern and was very clean. We saw elk in the fields in Packwood and owls in the woods behind the house. We would stay there again. On a small note, the provided firewood has not been split at all, and some is too large to burn, so bring small and large kindling and maybe a little firewood.
Thanks for a clean, well appointed, stay. Kitchen, bedrooms, view, what a great three day Mt. Rainier trip.
I was impressed with the cleanliness and the comfort in the accommodations that were provided during my 3 day stay in Packwood. The kitchen is very equipped to cook meals for any size of family. Great to have a washer/dryer in the house. Very convenient to the community of Packwood to wander into town, have coffee or something to eat. You can tell that the owners take very good care of their rental houses and do their best to make your stay as memorable and restful as possible. So close to the ski resort and ample hiking trails. So ideal for the adventurous guest. There is not a lack of outdoor activities to participate in or just to relax indoors with a good book or movie. We plan to return!
Spent a very relaxing girl's weekend here. Close enough to walk into town but you don't hear Hwy 12 noise which is nice. Elk were all over the place and with the nice front windows, you could enjoy them without being out in the rain or disturbing them. Lodge is well furnished and the beds very comfortable. It's close to White Pass for the winter sports and hiking trails as well during that season. Pretty much a win-win no matter what you like to do.
I have been bringing my young family (kids 6, 4, 2) to Packwood and White Pass since our first was born and have stayed at 6 different cabins/homes in or just outside packwood. This is by far the best. It has an area downstairs for the kids and a beautiful large upstairs with every amenity you could want in a vacation home. Three large bedrooms and a downstairs bunk bed gave us all our desired space and privacy. The proximity to downtown packwood is also great (0.5 mi) and it only took us 20-22 min to drive to white pass. The price is very competitive and I look forward to staying here again. Our only regret is not staying long enough to fully enjoy the breathtaking view of MT Rainier through the front windows. The weather was not great and clouds covered our view until the last two hours of our stay. But when the mountain comes out, prepare to stare for several hours in awe.
When I broached the idea of a Thanksgiving getaway to the Mt. Rainier area, my children wanted a place with wifi and a fire pit. My wife and I wanted a hot tub. Rainier View Lodge had all of the above plus a magnificent view of the mountain right outside our bedroom door and the front window. We were able to take a short drive to Whites Pass and enjoy the snow. We encountered two small herds of elk on two separate occasions. The property was everything it was supposed to be and more. It was clean and well kept. The owners provided us with excellent customer service and were very accommodating. We loved every moment of our stay. This may become a yearly destination for us.
Rainier View Lodge is 7 miles from Mt. Rainier National Park, and an easy day trip to Mt. St. Helens, surround by William O Douglas, Goat Rocks and Tatoosh Wilderness Areas, where you can disappear all day with an endless banquet of choices. White Pass Scenic Byway (Highway 12), 'Playground of Volcano Country', is a veritable smorgasbord of brown recreation signs where you can satisfy your activity appetite every season of the year with fishing, boating, wind surfing, hang-gliding, swimming, hiking, horseback riding, kayaking, mountain bikes, geocaching, birding and much, much more.
Rainier View Lodge is just .3 of a mile east of downtown Packwood, WA en route to White Pass Ski Area, just 17-18 miles away. So embark on an adventure of natural scenic delights and wildlife so abundant, you will wonder if you are driving through the heart of a wildlife preserve. Elk appear a natural extension of the downtown landscape. Packwood is considered the dream of recreational enthusiasts, and White Pass Ski Area has great family skiing (downhill & cross country), snowshoeing and snowboard programs, terrain for all ages, and all in stunningly beautiful surroundings. In 2011, White Pass expanded by adding 767 acres, including 2 additional ski lifts, 18 new ski trails, and a mid-mountain lodge.
