Mount Rainier Lodge Rental Photos and Description

Lodge, 3 + Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Find The RAINIER VIEW LODGE nestled amongst the trees in Packwood, WA. Historic Packwood is situated between Mt. Rainier, Mt. Saint Helens, Mt. Adams, surrounded by the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, and at the very center of Washington's White Pass Scenic Byway (Hwy 12), 'Playground of Volcano Country.' It is 7 miles from the southeast entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park and 19 miles from White Pass Ski Area.

RAINIER VIEW LODGE has 2,184 sq. ft. of luxury (built in 2009) w/custom, live-edge finish and decor: 'book-matched' cabinetry w/cedar and 'spalted' maple highlights, hardwood & tile floors, granite counters, feature lighting and a custom-made, 9 ft., live-edge table w/matching benches and 2 - 8 foot leather couches, which promise comfort and ease as you absorb the view of Mt. Rainier from the massive cathedral windows, or drift into dreamland quickly on comfy mattresses with plump pillows and cozy down comforters.

Immediately outside are decks front and back, for enjoying fresh alpine air. Up Begonia Lane and to the left, Hall Creek falls and creek tempt a visit, along with neighborhood elk.

About Marilly Morton

Fred, as a teacher, is a life time learner. His passion is family, reading and sports. Marilly has a passion for family, birds, photography and traveling, visiting Nicaragua, The Netherlands, Germany & Italy. We both visited Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, Switzerland, Aruba, Vancouver Island & Victoria BC, and Fred managed a sailing trip to Belize with our oldest son.

To keep the international flavor in our home, we hosted exchange students including: two German, two Japanese, two Koreans, and one Colombian.

Besides our four vacation rentals, we own 2 Subway stores (in Portland, OR).

Marilly Morton purchased this lodge in 2008

Why Marilly Morton chose Mount Rainier

We love the mountains, and Packwood is very like Switzerland, only the mountains are smaller and farther apart. It is in the center of Gifford Pinchot Nat'l Forest, 7 miles from the southern entrance to Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park, and surround by Tatoosh, William O Douglass, and Goat Rocks Wilderness areas. There is a constant flow of wildlife including: elk, coyotes, raccoon, fox, black bear, bald eagles, beaver and more, and year round recreational activities.

What makes this lodge unique

I enjoy being outside in the hot tub under a star studded sky with wood smoke on the wind from the fire pit while elk pass by, what a combination! Throwing snowballs from the hot tub in the midst of winter made for a great memory and photo shoot. Indoors offers every comfort from home and even more with a far infrared sauna to soothe tired muscles. I never tire of watching the many faces of Mt. Rainier or the elk and birds at the Lodge. It's a great place for dreaming!

Guestbook comments from the owner

HI there,

Just wanted to say a BIG THANKS for a wonderful weekend with our entire family!! The place was in tip-top condition and more than we were expecting. The place was perfect for us with sleeping, eating (love the BIG table), relaxing...the view and weather couldn't have been better!!

We went on day hikes in the area, found our church services in Morton for Sunday (we are Mormon) and appreciated your generous hospitality to open such a lovely home for us to enjoy together.

We loved the campfires at night and visiting around them. It was nice to have all 6 of our children gathered around the campfire and enjoy conversations and look into all their faces...truly a beautiful sight!!

Anyway, I don't know if you get to hear from your renters, but we absolutely LOVED our time there and say THANKS for having us!!

Great House and Great View

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed the house, view, woods and trails, fire pit, hot tub, and location. The house is modern and was very clean. We saw elk in the fields in Packwood and owls in the woods behind the house. We would stay there again. On a small note, the provided firewood has not been split at all, and some is too large to burn, so bring small and large kindling and maybe a little firewood.

Owner's Response: Dear EW, So glad you found the house modern, very clean and enjoyed the woods, location, local wildlife and hot tub, finding only the lack of fire wood wanting. I’m guessing you don’t have a Smart/iPhone/Droid, because on the HomeAway/VRBO app, we state, “We do not PROMISE firewood, but have been able to provide it most years through property maintenance. Kindling, however, is NOT provided. If you go in the wooded area behind the lodge, you can find plenty of kindling. There is newspaper in the bottom drawer to the right of the refrigerator and matches just to the right of the slider in a black cast-iron holder, or a lighter in the top drawer to the right of the refrigerator.” I’m sorry our maintenance didn’t allow for split firewood this year. Fortunately, there are a number of places in town where firewood can be purchased.

Girl's weekend in Packwood

  • 5 of 5

I was impressed with the cleanliness and the comfort in the accommodations that were provided during my 3 day stay in Packwood. The kitchen is very equipped to cook meals for any size of family. Great to have a washer/dryer in the house. Very convenient to the community of Packwood to wander into town, have coffee or something to eat. You can tell that the owners take very good care of their rental houses and do their best to make your stay as memorable and restful as possible. So close to the ski resort and ample hiking trails. So ideal for the adventurous guest. There is not a lack of outdoor activities to participate in or just to relax indoors with a good book or movie. We plan to return!

ideal location

  • 5 of 5

Spent a very relaxing girl's weekend here. Close enough to walk into town but you don't hear Hwy 12 noise which is nice. Elk were all over the place and with the nice front windows, you could enjoy them without being out in the rain or disturbing them. Lodge is well furnished and the beds very comfortable. It's close to White Pass for the winter sports and hiking trails as well during that season. Pretty much a win-win no matter what you like to do.

The perfect family get away in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

I have been bringing my young family (kids 6, 4, 2) to Packwood and White Pass since our first was born and have stayed at 6 different cabins/homes in or just outside packwood. This is by far the best. It has an area downstairs for the kids and a beautiful large upstairs with every amenity you could want in a vacation home. Three large bedrooms and a downstairs bunk bed gave us all our desired space and privacy. The proximity to downtown packwood is also great (0.5 mi) and it only took us 20-22 min to drive to white pass. The price is very competitive and I look forward to staying here again. Our only regret is not staying long enough to fully enjoy the breathtaking view of MT Rainier through the front windows. The weather was not great and clouds covered our view until the last two hours of our stay. But when the mountain comes out, prepare to stare for several hours in awe.

Everything we wanted and more.

  • 5 of 5

When I broached the idea of a Thanksgiving getaway to the Mt. Rainier area, my children wanted a place with wifi and a fire pit. My wife and I wanted a hot tub. Rainier View Lodge had all of the above plus a magnificent view of the mountain right outside our bedroom door and the front window. We were able to take a short drive to Whites Pass and enjoy the snow. We encountered two small herds of elk on two separate occasions. The property was everything it was supposed to be and more. It was clean and well kept. The owners provided us with excellent customer service and were very accommodating. We loved every moment of our stay. This may become a yearly destination for us.

Owner's Response: Dear C & S, Thank you for choosing us for your vacation rental needs, and writing such a wonderful review. We are thrilled you feel you got more bang for your buck, and hope we have the privilege of serving you again in the future. Having written such a glowing report card on us and the Rainier View Lodge, I would like to turn people’s attention to Mt. Rainier, mentioned in your comment: 5th National Park to be established (March of 1899), 5th highest peak in the lower 48, highest point in the Cascade range, most glaciated (25), boasting of old growth forests and according to Wikipedia® - the site of a rainforest (Carbon River Entrance, located in the northwest corner of the park off Highway 165) with short trail through the rainforest, as well as a trail to the Carbon Glacier, one of the lowest glaciers in the contiguous United States. AND Mt. Rainier National Park is closer to SeaTac airport (Seattle ~2-2.5 hrs.) than Olympic National Park and because of ONP's proximity to the ocean, it is MORE LIKELY to have rain than Mt. Rainier (though no guarantees). AND Mt. Rainier at Packwood is closer to PDX (Portland International ~2.5 hrs.). If all that isn’t advantage enough, Packwood’s location not only allows access to Mt. Rainier but easy day trips to Mt. St. Helens (erupted 1980).
