Marilly Morton purchased this lodge in 2008
We love the mountains, and Packwood is very like Switzerland, only the mountains are smaller and farther apart. It is in the center of Gifford Pinchot Nat'l Forest, 7 miles from the southern entrance to Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park, and surround by Tatoosh, William O Douglass, and Goat Rocks Wilderness areas. There is a constant flow of wildlife including: elk, coyotes, raccoon, fox, black bear, bald eagles, beaver and more, and year round recreational activities.
I enjoy being outside in the hot tub under a star studded sky with wood smoke on the wind from the fire pit while elk pass by, what a combination! Throwing snowballs from the hot tub in the midst of winter made for a great memory and photo shoot. Indoors offers every comfort from home and even more with a far infrared sauna to soothe tired muscles. I never tire of watching the many faces of Mt. Rainier or the elk and birds at the Lodge. It's a great place for dreaming!
Just wanted to say a BIG THANKS for a wonderful weekend with our entire family!! The place was in tip-top condition and more than we were expecting. The place was perfect for us with sleeping, eating (love the BIG table), relaxing...the view and weather couldn't have been better!!
We went on day hikes in the area, found our church services in Morton for Sunday (we are Mormon) and appreciated your generous hospitality to open such a lovely home for us to enjoy together.
We loved the campfires at night and visiting around them. It was nice to have all 6 of our children gathered around the campfire and enjoy conversations and look into all their faces...truly a beautiful sight!!
Anyway, I don't know if you get to hear from your renters, but we absolutely LOVED our time there and say THANKS for having us!!
Spotless property . Had everything we needed. Would be great for a large group. Saw elk crossing property. Enjoyed hot tub. Only negative was that washing machine was moldy on door gasket.
We initially booked the home because of the terrific Rainier view--and that was as advertised. But beyond that the house was terrific. Clean, well-stocked, and equipped with toys (hot tub, sauna) for a mountain visit. Paradise is about 1.5 hours away, as is Windy Ridge for Mt St Helens--but the drives are fine and part of the adventure.
We had internet connectivity problems, which the owners tried to address, but the problems were more related to the servers than to anything that could be controlled in the short run. The owner provided a helpful book of hikes and restaurants in Packwood and nearby.
House was well stocked, beds were comfortable. Every inch of the house was clean.Just perfect, enjoyed the fire pit and especially the huge dining room table, perfect in every way. Will be back again and again.
Loved that the owner is responsive and very organized. The view is exactly as advertised. My husband was overwhelmed when the clouds cleared and we could see the mountain while sitting on the couch. Master bed was very comfortable. Highly recommend.
We enjoyed the house, view, woods and trails, fire pit, hot tub, and location. The house is modern and was very clean. We saw elk in the fields in Packwood and owls in the woods behind the house. We would stay there again. On a small note, the provided firewood has not been split at all, and some is too large to burn, so bring small and large kindling and maybe a little firewood.
