Find The RAINIER VIEW LODGE nestled amongst the trees in Packwood, WA. Historic Packwood is situated between Mt. Rainier, Mt. Saint Helens, Mt. Adams, surrounded by the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, and at the very center of Washington's White Pass Scenic Byway (Hwy 12), 'Playground of Volcano Country.' It is 7 miles from the southeast entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park and 19 miles from White Pass Ski Area.

RAINIER VIEW LODGE has 2,184 sq. ft. of luxury (built in 2009) w/custom, live-edge finish and decor: 'book-matched' cabinetry w/cedar and 'spalted' maple highlights, hardwood & tile floors, granite counters, feature lighting and a custom-made, 9 ft., live-edge table w/matching benches and 2 - 8 foot leather couches, which promise comfort and ease as you absorb the view of Mt. About Marilly Morton

Fred, as a teacher, is a life time learner. His passion is family, reading and sports. Marilly has a passion for family, birds, photography and traveling, visiting Nicaragua, The Netherlands, Germany & Italy. We both visited Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, Switzerland, Aruba, Vancouver Island & Victoria BC, and Fred managed a sailing trip to Belize with our oldest son.

To keep the international flavor in our home, we hosted exchange students including: two German, two Japanese, two Koreans, and one Colombian.

Besides our four vacation rentals, we own 2 Subway stores (in Portland, OR).

Marilly Morton purchased this lodge in 2008

Why Marilly Morton chose Mount Rainier

We love the mountains, and Packwood is very like Switzerland, only the mountains are smaller and farther apart. It is in the center of Gifford Pinchot Nat'l Forest, 7 miles from the southern entrance to Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park, and surround by Tatoosh, William O Douglass, and Goat Rocks Wilderness areas. There is a constant flow of wildlife including: elk, coyotes, raccoon, fox, black bear, bald eagles, beaver and more, and year round recreational activities.

What makes this lodge unique

I enjoy being outside in the hot tub under a star studded sky with wood smoke on the wind from the fire pit while elk pass by, what a combination! Throwing snowballs from the hot tub in the midst of winter made for a great memory and photo shoot. Indoors offers every comfort from home and even more with a far infrared sauna to soothe tired muscles. I never tire of watching the many faces of Mt. Rainier or the elk and birds at the Lodge. It's a great place for dreaming!

Guestbook comments from the owner

HI there,

Just wanted to say a BIG THANKS for a wonderful weekend with our entire family!! The place was in tip-top condition and more than we were expecting. The place was perfect for us with sleeping, eating (love the BIG table), relaxing...the view and weather couldn't have been better!!

We went on day hikes in the area, found our church services in Morton for Sunday (we are Mormon) and appreciated your generous hospitality to open such a lovely home for us to enjoy together.

We loved the campfires at night and visiting around them. It was nice to have all 6 of our children gathered around the campfire and enjoy conversations and look into all their faces...truly a beautiful sight!!

Anyway, I don't know if you get to hear from your renters, but we absolutely LOVED our time there and say THANKS for having us!!

Beautiful view of Mt. Rainier!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of six had a lovely time in this well-appointed lodge. We had plenty of room and the house had everything it advertised. We especially enjoyed the view of Mt. Rainier from the front of the house. Our spring visit gave us good weather for a fire out back with dinner at the picnic table. The house is very clean and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a nice place to stay just a very short drive to Mt. Rainier National Park. June 2, 2017

Unreasonable property owner ruined our family trip.

  • 1 of 5

This experience was the worst of my life. This property owner's over the top requests for detailed information on all of those staying on the property is both paranoid and insulting. Her list of rules for the property was pages and pages of paranoid requests that made my family feel very uneasy about staying at the property from the beginning. We had a last minute addition to our party that took our occupancy from 6 to 7 in a home that is listed as accomodating 8. The owner refused to refund our deposit in full because she claimed that the additional guest made the cleaning of the property take twice along.

The fact that one more person joined us did not cause any additional cleaning time or services. To claim otherwise is unreasonable and simply unfair. The home was left in pristine condition and to claim otherwise is simply a lie.

I have been in the service industry for most of my life and I cannot believe the way I was treated by this property owner. She set us up to fail because of her insane procedure requests. She repeatedly communicated that she knew I had 7 and not 6 guests as if disciplining me. Since when did something so innocent, get treated like a major offense. It felt like we were in a police state and being watched by this paranoid women. I have stayed at other VRBO residences and had wonderful experiences. In life, things don’t always goes as planned and the property owner's inability to be reasonable is very disappointing.

Check-in was at 4. We traveled from far, not knowing how good of time we would make. The fact that we were there an hour early and that you are counting that against us is insane! We could have wasted time in town to await the exact check in of 4pm if we knew this was considered such a horrible thing. We chose stay because the housekeepers at the home said that it was ready. Check in times are a suggestion and it is always subject to slight changes due to arrival time and good customer service.

I have stayed at other VRBO residences and had wonderful experiences. In life, things don’t always goes as planned and the property owner's inability to be reasonable is very disappointing.

Owner's Response: First, let me say thank you, LA, for your patronage from Olympia, WA to both Rainier View Lodge in April 2017, Hall Creek Cabin in March 2014 and taking the time to write this review. Reviews have inestimable value as a public forum for hosts and guests alike, both present and future. I would like to use this opportunity to inform travelers whose paths will cross ours, as they search properties for their own vacations. To those who have read this far, I ask you to consider all 51 of our reviews before coming to a conclusion: 47 - 5 star, 1 - 4 star, 1 - 1 star (this one) and 2 without ratings. While in the Rainier View LA wrote, “Everything has been great, thank you,” so the follow-up comments after the refund of $245.15 (the $300.00 deposit minus the extra occupant fee of $25.00 per person, per night x 2 nights, plus WA state lodging tax @ 9.698%, all of which is posted on the VRBO/HomeAway site), was a shock. This review was not. In the vacation rental (VR) community, there is a wide disparity of owners. From the single unit (whole house, room or condo) that manages their own property to the mega-unit owner that hires a property manager, and everything in between. We own/manage 4 houses, very hands on, available and successfully hosted domestic & international guests in all our houses since 2006. Additionally, there is a wide disparity of guests with differing expectations, communication styles and an even broader range of technological skills for making a reservation (payments & paperwork). This disparity can be a minefield and navigating from inquiry to booking and beyond, potentially treacherous. It is important for guests to understand that contracts and posted site information is not a “suggestion.” Be sure to view all pictures and read provided information. If you still have questions/concerns address them during the reservation process, not after. It is our goal to appropriately match each property with the guests who use them as both guest and host need to be happy at the end of a stay.

Perfect for our weekend ski getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Lovely home that met all our needs! We stayed here over the weekend to do some skiing at White Pass which is just a short drive up the mountain. Charming decor, well equipped, nicely furnished and nestled just off the main highway with lovely scenery out every window. More than once we looked out and saw deer. This house is set up nicely for families with kids of all ages, a group of families / couples and you could even increase the capacity with the full RV hook up if needed. We enjoyed this house with our family of four and a set of grandparents. The kids loved the board games and of course the hot tub. The dining table I wanted to haul home!! It was wonderfully big and was nice to gather around for meals! Will definitely consider again as we are avid White Pass skiers, and the owners were organized and a pleasure to book with.

Owner's Response: Dear EJ, Thank you for your 5-star review and wonderful comments. In reference to the table you wanted to “haul home,” it was custom-made with live edge. We were introduced to live edge following the purchase of the property upon which Rainier View Lodge is built. We considered it for siding too, but in the end chose inside over outside to minimize expenses. Once the build was complete and furnishing began, we just couldn’t imagine a traditional table with fixed lines. The table and matching benches, whose only requirement was that the benches needed to be substantial and NOT do the teeter/totter thing when one person got up, were built by Randle Woods out of Randle, WA and mostly designed by Bruce Roberts. I cannot recommend Randle Woods enough! From the table whose center was made from left over hickory flooring and wrapped with birds-eye maple, to all the extra touches throughout the house (i.e. back-lit silhouette of Mt Rainier over the kitchen cabinetry, book-matched cupboard doors and stairway, cedar wrap around the great-room windows, Belgian, spalted-maple end caps at the head of the stairway, to knotty-pine window and door wraps milled by Randle Woods vs purchased from a big box store. Their creative finger prints are everywhere. Regarding your comment, "This house is set up nicely for families with kids of all ages, a group of families / couples and you could even increase the capacity with the full RV hook up if needed," we have 4 houses on adjacent properties, for small retreats and family reunions all of which have been beautified with live edge.

Rainier View Lodge is everything the pictures promise it to be - amazing view of Mt Rainier, great big living/dining space with cozy couches to curl up on after a long day of skiing, comfortable beds and a hot tub. We'll definitely be back next time we go to White Pass!
