HGTV Featured Home in Gated Community with Community Pool/Beach/Tennis
Our family built our Dauphin Island getaway in 2002, as a place to escape, relax, and build family memories with our own family of 3 boys. We live in nearby Mobile, Alabama and are custom homebuilders, so if you decide you need your own Dauphin Island home, we can help with that, too!
Julie purchased this House in 2002
Why Julie chose Dauphin Island
We love the East End of Dauphin Island for its quiet, residential feel. Located near the end of a cul-de-sac, we love the beautiful dune views and quiet street. Our neighborhood has a private community pool, private neighborhood beach access, and a tennis court. You can easily take long walks on the beach, down to the Audubon Bird Sanctuary, and back to the neighborhood via the bike/walking trail.
What makes this House unique
Because this is our personal family home, it is equipped how we like it to be! You'll find lots of coffee cups (Julie prefers tea, however), dishes, and cooking utensils. The kids will enjoy the big bucket of sand toys, scooters, and bikes, which we are happy to share with you though we can't 'guarantee' them. Our home was designed to provide a comfortable main living area for gathering with the whole family, yet also provide several different 'getaway' spots such as the back deck, hammock, or 3rd floor porches, when you just need a little quiet time!

This property has everything you could possibly need in a beach house!!! We were a party of 8 with 6 kids ages 9-21 and this house had everything - bikes, beach chairs/toys, beach cart/wagons, coolers, umbrellas, gas grill. The private neighborhood and private beach (minute walk from the house) were quiet and secluded..Inside the house, the kitchen has every appliance, dish wear, pots, pans, etc imaginable and the 2 refrigerators were great for a big family. Towels, sheets, etc were clean and plentiful. The owner, Julie, responded to any questions or concerns within minutes and sometimes within seconds. I would highly recommend this house to anyone, especially if you have a larger group. Worth every penny.
Quiet, relaxing beach vacation
The house was the perfect size for our two-family beach vacation. Plenty of room to sleep 10, large kitchen/eating area. If you're looking for a quieter beach vacation, this is the place to go. There aren't the large tourist crowds. Many mornings we had the private beach to ourselves even though we were there in late July/early August. Lack of large crowds also means not as many touristy things to do like shopping, fun parks, mini-golf, etc. The older kids really loved having a tennis court close by, everyone enjoyed the beach. The community pool is definitely on the smaller side, but the lack of crowds on the beach more than made up for it. We saw lots of marine life including dolphins, fish, a wide variety of birds (but not annoying), etc. Highly recommended if you want a quieter time at the beach, plenty of beach to just stroll along and search for shells.
Thanks for your stay in our family's home! I'm so glad you enjoyed a quiet, relaxing time with your family.
House was large clean and lots of auxiliary items left to for visitors use. Bikes, wagons, beech chairs, beach toys and books. Large kitchen with all needed items to cook and entertain. 5 minute walk to beach and family really enjoyed the pool.
Loved Loved the property we stayed in!!! The owner Julie was awesome, very helpful with everything, which made our time on Dauphine Island more enjoyable!!!! We had a wonderful time on our vacation!!!!
Great Beach House
The house was perfect for our group of 10. Plenty of room for everyone and nice proximity to the beach. It’s located in what seems to be one of the nicer “neighborhoods” on the island and away from the chaos of house-upon-house. It’s probably a 10 minute walk from the house to sand but it’s easy, especially with the cart and wagon the owners provide.
The beach is the nice, white powdery sand you’re hoping for and it’s not crowded.
If you’re looking for tons of stuff to do other than great beach and family/friend time, this may not be the beach for you but for us, it was perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed our time on Dauphin Island.
Kelly, I'm so glad your group found our home, and that you enjoyed being in your own private, quiet neighborhood! We also love hanging out with our friends and family - you have lots of great spots to do so right at "home" in Harmony and our neighborhood! Thanks again for your stay!
Spacious and close to beach and attractions
Spacious and quiet home. Good residential location near private community beach. Decor was pleasant and beds were comfortable.
For families traveling with small children there are lots of stairs. We got a lot of exercise going up and down stairs with supplies and children. The house does have a child gate available and a high chair. For us it was difficult because it meant constantly taking down and putting up the gate in order for bigger kids and adults to access the upper level throughout the day.
Julie was very responsive to our messages/questions. There is a binder with house rules (and notes posted around the house). It would be great to have the binder updated with an island map and updated brochures for area attractions for house guests. Also of note, cellphones (and internet) have spotty signal. There is a house phone provided.
Overall it was a wonderful set up for traveling with a large group.
Hi Maria, I'm glad you enjoyed our home. We know traveling with lots of children isn't always easy, which is why we provide so many "child friendly" amenities. The binder contents change weekly, but we send each guest an updated 3 page e-mail with all of our family favorites prior to arrival. There is also a stack of island maps in the drawer downstairs (though the island is pretty small and you can't really get lost! ;). Thanks for your stay.
Visit the Estuarium, Fort Gaines (a historic civil war fort), and beautiful Bellingrath Gardens, The whole island is a bird sanctuary, and especially during the Spring and Fall you can see many different birds on their migratory trips, Charter boats for both fishing and sightseeing, see historic Sand Island Lighthouse, You can also take a car ferry ride across Mobile Bay to visit the Gulf Shores area, water parks, outlet malls, etc, There are several seafood restaurants nearby, as well as a bakery and ice cream shop! You can ride bikes on the bike trails which cover most of the island! In Mobile, Alabama you can visit area museums such as the Exploreum Children's Museum or our brand new Mobile Museum of Art, Enjoy a Bay Bears baseball game, or even Mardi Gras!
