There's a lot to do on Dauphin Island! Visit the Dauphin Island SeaLab and Estuarium, Fort Gaines (a historic Civil War fort), and beautiful nearby Bellingrath Gardens. The whole island is a bird sanctuary. And especially during the spring and fall, you can see many different types of birds on their migratory trips.
Charter fishing is great.
You can charter boats for both fishing and sightseeing. Enjoy taking a boat ride to see the historic Sand Island Lighthouse.
You can also take a car ferry ride across Mobile Bay to visit the Gulf Shores area -- with its water parks and outlet malls. There are several seafood restaurants on the island, as well as a chocolate shop, bakery, and an ice cream shop! You can ride bikes on the bike trails which cover most of the island!
Our home is just a short drive to Mobile, Alabama, where you can visit many area museums such as the Exploreum Children's Museum or our brand new Mobile Museum of Art. In season, enjoy a Bay Bears baseball game, and the Mardi Gras! Mobile has a wonderful family-oriented Mardi Gras celebration.
Our family built our Dauphin Island getaway in 2002, as a place to escape, relax, and build family memories with our own family of 3 boys. We live in nearby Mobile, Alabama and are custom homebuilders, so if you decide you need your own Dauphin Island home, we can help with that, too!
Julie purchased this house in 2002
We love the East End of Dauphin Island for its quiet, residential feel. Located near the end of a cul-de-sac, we love the beautiful dune views and quiet street. Our neighborhood has a private community pool, private neighborhood beach access, and a tennis court. You can easily take long walks on the beach, down to the Audubon Bird Sanctuary, and back to the neighborhood via the bike/walking trail.
Because this is our personal family home, it is equipped how we like it to be! You'll find lots of coffee cups (Julie prefers tea, however), dishes, and cooking utensils. The kids will enjoy the big bucket of sand toys, scooters, and bikes, which we are happy to share with you though we can't 'guarantee' them. Our home was designed to provide a comfortable main living area for gathering with the whole family, yet also provide several different 'getaway' spots such as the back deck, hammock, or 3rd floor porches, when you just need a little quiet time!
Lovely, lovely home - I could spend the rest of my life in the beautiful upstairs bedroom. Hope to be back again soon.

We spent a week of R & R. Easy access to a private beach. Loved the pool for night swims. We cooked our meals and enjoyed the mini reunion of our entire family from 2 yrs to 80 yrs. Plenty of room for everyone. Went fishing and everyone caught something. The locals were very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed Hamburgers from The Loon Restaurant and pastries from the Local Bakery. The guys went golfing - bring your own clubs. The ones you rent were not much to write about. Otherwise is was enjoyable. The girls took the Ferry to Gulf Shores for some real shopping. Everyone enjoyed the relaxed home feel of the house and the quiet community.
We rented this house for our annual family vacation. We had ages 14-84 and it worked out so well. The kids had their bunk room and the lower level rec area. Everyone else had their own beautiful bedroom. Plenty of room to spread out, we were never on top of each other. One of the best things for us was the kitchen and dining area. It is well stocked with everything you need including an electric griddle, crock pot and mixer. We used the grill as well. We ate almost every meal at the house. Plenty of room at the table and adjacent counter. Also great for family game night! For outdoor activities, we couldn't have asked for a better location. Just a very short walk to the pool and beautiful private beach. We spent a lot of time at the beach, from early morning to late night swims. The house is stocked with beach chairs, umbrellas and a wagon to haul them. The location is great for sight seeing too. Lots of fun things on the island and only 40 min to Mobile and a 40 min Ferry ride to Gulf Shores. The island is very laid back and peaceful and the people are very friendly. Overall just a great place to spend a vacation.
This home is a perfect getaway for multiple family units! We'd stayed on Dauphin Island previously, but never in a home and would highly recommend the convenience and relaxed atmosphere over condo units. Not only was the home spacious inside with each person/family having their own private area, the addition of several porches and deck for gathering made the home seem even larger. The convenience of the outdoor shower and the storage area for "dropping" stuff on way home from beach, was much appreciated. The home was furnished in nice decor and the kitchen well equipped for cooking....though carry out was much preferred! Would highly recommend Skinners for seafood boil. Thanks so much for sharing your gorgeous home and giving our family the opportunity to make wonderful memories.
What a great place! There was 9 adults and 2 children that stayed here. Lots of room the two kitchen areas was awesome. the Kids enjoyed the Nintendo 64 . The beach was a easy walk to get to. pool was nice,. My daughter learned to ride a bike here. we enjoyed the two bikes that was here ,the bike trail was peaceful. The Bird sanctuary is a must if you go,seen a aligator, horned owl , and lots of birds, trails was well maintained and lots of shells to get, also found a shark tooth on this beach. The west end beach is a great place to find shells.
thanks for a beautiful place to stay in!!
The kids really enjoyed playing pool and all the beach toys that were at the house.
This was our first time on Dauphin Island so we weren't sure what to expect. The island had more to offer than what we expected. The house met our needs perfectly with 3 levels, one for each family. The grandkids enjoyed all the games and books. Several of us went bike riding, walked to the beach, played tennis (must bring own rackets). The kitchen was large enough for us to share cooking and serving. The extra refrigerator downstairs was really useful. We ate at Miguels (carry out) ,& J.T.'s. Both very good. Our favorite place was the bakery. They cooked our turkey and dressing and gravy - delicious. But even better than that were the wonderful cinnamon rolls. The only down side to Harmony House was no view of the beach. The walk was only 5 min. but would have been nice to see the water from our windows or porch. The porches are screened which is perfect to sit out and not have mosquitos buzzing around.
