Honu Hale is an authentic Hawaiian beach/oceanfront single story vacation home on the North Shore of Oahu, just feet from the waters edge.
If you are looking to spend your Hawaiian vacation in a small picturesque town in a secluded area, only 35 minutes from Honolulu, this is the place for you! It has a variety of excellent restaurants and it is a great place for all water-sports, including snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, windsurfing, and kayaking.
Other favorite activities include walking on the beach, fishing, skydiving, horseback riding, tennis, golfing, biking, and hiking the nearby end of the North Shore Road.
Honu Hale is named after the numerous sea turtles that play in our waters. You can enjoy your dinner in the large backyard as the sunsets dazzle you and the cool ocean breezes gently caress you. Isn't this what a tropical paradise is supposed to be?
Honu Hale is situated on the ocean, with unobstructed ocean views and an unbeatably quiet and private location.
Come stay where the people of Oahu come to get away from the crowds. Mokuleia is on Oahu's North Shore, but is a secret to most. It is just 35 minutes from Honolulu, seven minutes from the town of Haleiwa, and 15 minutes from Hawaii's famous Waimea Bay and Pipeline.
There are no hotels in Mokuleia, and we have empty white sand beaches for miles and miles. This is the Hawaii you dreamed of and thought you could only find on the Outer Islands.
A great horseback riding and equestrian center is just across the street.
Enjoy the sunset every day in your backyard from the bubbling Jacuzzi or on the rooftop deck.
Our backyard is your beach - an amazingly beautiful and peaceful setting of nearly private uncrowded beaches. Mokule`ia provides some of Oahu's best and least crowded surfing. Most of our guests enjoy staying close to home and enjoying the ultimate Hawaiian Paradise. Within a 10 minute drive are fine restaurants, quaint shops, a marina for fishing and sightseeing, and North Shores world famous surfing.
Just a short drive from the nearly private beaches and sets of both popular TV series Lost and Baywatch. Honu Hale’s location is also a great home base if you are interested in sightseeing. Conveniently located 10 minutes from the H2 Hwy, you can get across the island within 20 minutes.

I have lived in Hawaii for five years now, but this has definitely been one of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve had on the island.
The house is a little out of the way from the busy surf scene in Haleiwa, adding to its appeal for me. I live in downtown Honolulu, so getting a reprieve from the city traffic was greatly appreciated. I never get tired of looking out to the ocean and seeing so many stars. I loved unwinding in the hot tub and basking in the stars and full moon.
I definitely recommend any local cuisine. The shrimp trucks are great and there’s a ton of delicious hole-in-the-wall spots in Haleiwa.
For a great time, I highly recommend visiting Pearl Harbor around noon/lunchtime for a minimal wait time. The Polynesian Cultural Center is an excellent way to spend a day. It’s interactive and fun, teaching you a ton about Polynesian Islands. Plus if you do the luau, you won’t be disappointed. They’ve got firedancers, lots of hula, and the food is FANTASTIC! It’s one of the best local food luau’s on the island. Diamond Head and La’ie are great places to hike. Take lots of water and wear good shoes.
Most of all I encourage you to enjoy the house itself. A huge part of Hawaiian lifestyle is just hanging loose and relaxing. This house is your opportunity to get away from things for a while… enjoy it. Don’t underestimate hanging out at the house, soaking up some sun, and taking a dip in the ocean.
PS. Say hello to the turtles for us! Watching the whales was awesome!
My family stayed at this beautiful house for a week in November. It was more that I expected. Beds were so comfortable, my children (19, 15, and 10 yrs.) and my sister, loved the location and we were close to many activities. House was equipped with everything! I mean everything! So great!
During our stay, it was high tide, we didn't mind because the sound of the waves crashing was relaxing and we slept well every night. The location of the home was perfect for us, activities were less than half an hour away and we were away from all the touristy areas. During our stay we enjoyed swimming, watching parts the surfing competition a few miles away, the farmers market, Diamond Head, Pearl Harbor, Dole plantation, Luau and so much more. My husband cooked dinner a few nights and there is nothing like enjoying a great meal with family while listening to the ocean waves at your back door.
Booking the home was easy and it was a pleasure to work with Erica and Heather. They would respond quickly to any questions I had. Linda, the caretaker, contacted me a week before and gave me information we would need when we arrived. We felt like we were part of the family! We want to come back to this home. Truly feels like home away from home!
We absolutely loved Honu Hale 1!!!! It was perfect for our extended family and we were at maximum capacity but never felt cramped. The house was truly well stocked from the bed linens and pillows, towels, kitchen supplies (including rice cooker), and an abundance of beach supplies so that all of our needs were met and then some. We had young children with us (1, 3 & 6 yrs.) and were sure to not let them out back without supervision as there is nothing preventing a tumble over the sea wall. The water access was rough off the back yard but a short early morning kayak jaunt was successful, just be careful as suggested and watch weather and water conditions (North Shore surfing season was just beginning during our stay). But gorgeous beaches are a short drive up the North Shore and we spent most of our time away from the house during the day exploring all over the island anyway. The location fit us perfectly! Haleiwa is a few minutes away with quaint shops and restaurants. It is very rural and quiet and I will take a long, quiet drive anytime over the busy freeways of Honolulu and crowds in Waikiki. We spent most evenings at the house making our own dinners and enjoying the peacefulness and sounds of waves crashing in the back yard and loved waking to the same sounds every morning.
This house has everything you could possibly need and is located in a great spot. We were here in October and our only complaint would be that there is no real beach to speak of at the house, there is a seawall that takes a good bit of pounding constantly so the kayaks and stand-up paddleboards were pretty useless from the house for the whole week. The house has everything you could possibly need to cook and serve as many people as you could fit around the 2 dining room tables. The sound of waves crashing as you sleep in both main bedrooms cannot be beat. You can walk to the Dillingham Air Field for skydiving from the house and the amazing trails of Peacock Flats are just a over a mile away. Great place for a house full of family adventure.
We turned into little kids from the moment we walked in the front door to Honu Hale I! Pictures do not do it justice -- although Honu Hale I was EXACTLY as portrayed in the photos -- just better in person! We literally ran from room to room with excitement as we tried to convince ourselves that it was every bit as good as it looked. After staying in many vacation rentals, Honu Hale I far exceeded our expectations and was, without a doubt, the best stocked rental we have ever had. For the first time ever we did not have to make a run to the store for anything.
The views! Stunning!!! We could not get enough -- spent hours sitting in the backyard or in the jacuzzi while the waves crashed into the seawall; slept every night with the sliders open to both the master and guest bedroom to sleep and awake to the sound of the waves; The A/C was a bonus -- although wasn't even necessary. Honu Hale I had it all -- view, space, beautifully landscaped, oceanfront, privacy, washer/dryer, scuba gear, kayaks, surf boards, boogie boards, fishing poles, the list just goes on and on. There is no question that the owners and their caretaker, Linda, take great pride in Honu Hale I! We cannot thank them enough for their part in providing us with the vacation of a lifetime!! Now that we are home we feel like we're missing something and left our friends on the island! Looking forward to our next trip! Until then --- MAHALO - MAHALO - MAHALO!
I have been telling everyone about our stay. This place was so very comfortable. The beds were amazing and we had everything we needed to make our vacation a memorable one! We will be back.
We recently stayed at Hono Hale and what a joy it was! When we entered the house, Linda had everything set up! There were beautiful fresh flowers and herbs from her garden. The house can easily sleep 10 and after staying in numerous vacation rentals, I can say, I have never seen a better stocked kitchen. Located about 10 minutes from Haleiwa, there are many amenities close by, yet you can escape the touristy crowd. The house offers a full sized washer and dryer which is great after being at the beach all day. there are 2 full baths and a wonderful covered lanai that is great for watching the surf and drinking morning coffee. The immediate beach access is not good, but immediate access is about 1 mile down the street. The ocean rushes up to a retaining wall in the back and for those who do not wish to take a swim, this is perfect! Linda includes a supply of surf/paddle boards and swimming gear, such as snorkles. There is also a grill and hot tub that add to the island atmosphere. As for the linens, Linda has provided stacks of towels, blankets, and washcloths. Our family decided that due to all the added touches, Hono Hale was like staying in someone's home. I can highly recommend this wonderful hidden jewel. You will be happy you chose to stay there!

Snorkel, kayak, swim, surf, boogie board, fish, Jacuzzi, walk, hike, relax, and enjoy all that the North Shore has to offer from this charming Hawaiian Home. Horseback riding, shell hunting, wind surfing, Luaus all nearby. Dining, art galleries, shopping, all nearby. Home cooked meal from fully stocked kitchen at home or dine in town just minutes away. Tropical birds and tropical landscape. Hear the ocean waves as they lull you to sleep. Outdoor Jacuzzi. Outdoor warm and cold water shower.
Located in a nice and quiet residential neighborhood that is very friendly to visitors, longtime residents call Mokule`ia the hidden jewel of the island. Mokuleia is on Oahu's North Shore, but is a secret to most. There are no hotels in Mokuleia and we have empty white sand beaches for miles and miles. This is the Hawaii you dreamed of and thought you could only find on the Outer Islands. Mokuleia provides some of Oahu's best and least crowded surfing and beaches. On the west side of the North Shore, the waves are about half of the size of those on the east side of the North Shore. We have a sea wall that protects the backyard from the large winter surf. Directly behind the house we have a sandy ocean as the reef is located about 300 yards from the coastline. The waves break on the reef, making our ocean more swimmable during the winter months. Obviously extreme caution should be used during any ocean activity. You can access the beach/ocean from the backyard via an aluminum ladder which attaches to the wall and takes you from the backyard down to the beach/ocean. If you are not comfortable with the ladder access, there are public accesses to many sandy beaches within walking distance. Honu Hale I is located right on the ocean front. Depending on surf and weather conditions, the sandy beach may move away from the back of the house. In such case the ocean may still be accessed from the backyard with caution but in some cases the surf and weather conditions will prohibit backyard access.
During the summer months the surf is very calm on the North Shore and access from the backyard is generally easy. During the winter months and higher surf, access may become less desirable and the public accesses to the local beaches nearby is a great solution. The sights and sounds that come with Honu Hale's close proximity to the ocean are second to none.
Our Honu Hale is 7 minutes from Haleiwa, a historic quaint surf town with great shaved ice, shopping, a marina for fishing and sightseeing, and fine restaurants. Haleiwa’s nearly private beaches were the beautiful sets of both popular TV series Lost and Baywatch. 15 minutes from Hawaii's North Shore's world famous surfing at Waimea Bay and Pipeline. Conveniently located 10 minutes from the H2 Hwy, 35 minutes from downtown Honolulu - a straight shot with little traffic. Honolulu International Airport at 28 Miles.
