Beautiful views from this bayfront cottage. New paint, furniture, and 47' LCD hi def tv are just a part of the amenities. This modest and clean cottage lies along the northern shore line of Dona Bay, enjoying the same views and setting as the neighborhood of multi million dollar homes. The views and atmosphere are spectacular.
The recently remodeled cottage has two bedrooms. One with a pillowtop queen bed and the other with two single beds that could be put together as one big bed. Each bedroom has cable tv. There is also a separate dining room, an eat in kitchen, living room, laundry, and two baths. It has Verizon FIOS 47' hi def tv and high speed wireless internet. The home sits about 50 feet off the shore line providing up close waterfront views from most rooms of the cottage. The home has it's own private boat dock with a boat lift. Rental boats nearby.
Enjoy boating, fishing or crabbing on your private dock with boat lift. Canoe or kayak from Oscar Scherer State Park. Boat rentals nearby. Beaches within 1.5 miles. Bicycle to the beach or public tennis courts, which are both about one and a half mile away.
Many fine restaurants in the area. Many beautiful golf courses to choose from. Rent a boat, windsurf, parasail or charter fishing nearby. Shell and shark's tooth hunt on the famous Casperson Beach. A ten minute drive to Sarasota and 50 minutes to Tampa (Busch Gardens and Adventure Island), and 1 hour 45 minutes to all of the Orlando attractions. Yes, I mean Disney and much more.
There is no smoking permitted on the property, inside or outside. Pets may be accepted with additional fee and deposit OR credit card on file.
The cottage is the downstairs unit of a duplex. The upstairs unit is rented from the first week of January through the end of March to a couple in their 70 s with a standard poodle. They have been renting the upstairs unit for fifteen consecutive years. I live next door and can assure you they are a quiet couple and the dog rarely barks. Otherwise, I would not have had them as my neighbor and tenant for the last fifteen years. The upstairs is not occupied during any of the remaining months. It is then like a single family house from April through early January.

We live next door and have since 1994. We bought the cottage as a rental and have enjoyed meeting different people over the years. You can rest assured that the cottage guests will be well taken care of without ever me being an intrusion. We take pride in the cottage being next to our family home and we go above and beyond to keep every guest happy. If there is a problem, let me know so we can do our best to remedy it.
Bryan purchased this cottage in 1996

March was a lovely time to be on the bay in Venice. The location is wonderful -- relaxing, filled with birds and an occasional dolphin siting, and plenty of outdoor space for our dog to run. The house itself, although older than other places we've stayed, is very clean and comfortable. The rooms are good-sized, closets are large, and the kitchen is well-stocked. With only two bedrooms we wondered how we would manage a 3 day stay with our son and his family, including two big teenage boys. We brought an air mattress from home that one slept on in the living room along with his younger brother who loved the fold out chair. Space was not a problem. They really enjoyed fishing from the dock. Since our return, Bryan has followed up with an email identifying minor fixes that will make future renters more comfortable. We enjoyed getting to know Bryan and his family and although he lives next door, we saw them only occasionally, providing a wonderful sense of privacy. I would heartily recommend the cottage and we are looking forward to returning next year.
We have just completed a two-month's stay on Dona Bay and have enjoyed the accommodations very much. The cottage is conveniently located close to downtown Venice, Nokomis Beach and Sarasota.
The cottage is quite comfortable, clean, with plenty of hot water. The appliances are in excellent working order and there is a lot of kitchen ware. The view is outstanding and we've had an opportunity to watch many birds from our backyard. Our grandchildren loved fishing on the dock!
Bryan has made every effort to ensure that our requests were met in a timely manner. We have had a wonderful vacation on Dona Bay and have signed up for next January and February. We would recommend this property without hesitation!
This cottage is in a great location and has great potential. It was very bright, and a good compact size. You are steps away from the bay, and there was great fishing off of the dock. However, it is very 'tired' and could benefit from some updating and repairs, particularly in the bathroom and kitchen. Having owned a rental property before, I know that you don't want to put the very best into a rental for fear of damage or theft, but some updating of utensils, cleaning of the stove, basic updates to appliances and bathrooms, replacing the queen mattress that 'tilts' down from the middle, etc., would bring even better value to this house. If I was the first one in the shower, I had to run the shower for 3-4 minutes because the initial hot water would disappear after soaping up, and it took 2 full minutes (yes, I timed it) for the water to come back hot again. In the winter where the mornings were a little chilly, I didn't enjoy a cold shower. The owner was responsive and came and checked on the water heater, but wasn't able to correct the problem during our stay. If updates were made, I would recommend the home for short stays.
We enjoyed are two weeks stay at this great location on the bay. The accommodations were excellent and we were well pleased with the cleanliness of the cottage. The owner was very friendly and informative about the area. "Pops" restaurant which is maybe a mile at the most was a great place to have a great waterside meal and too watch the boats go by.
We stayed in the Bayfront Cottage in November of 2014. For a “cottage”, it is quite spacious. We come often to the Venice area, and this may have been the cleanest house I have stayed in. The bath towels, sheets and all linens were new and of high quality. The kitchen appliances, bathrooms, etc. were all sparkling clean. The house smelled nice and fresh, unlike the musty smell you find in many Florida homes. Great large screen TV!! The owner lives next door, but he is so careful not to invade on your privacy at all. Yet if there is anything you need, he is quick to make sure you are happy. The location is great for fans of Nokomis Beach and Pop’s Sunset Grill; you don’t even need to go out onto 41. If you have kayaks or a boat, this would be an ideal place to stay.
We spent time in December at this house. It is even better than the pictures can show. The views of the bay and wildlife were wonderful. The house is clean, bright and spacious with everything you would want. Close to downtown Venice and Venice Beach although we liked Nokomis Beach even more. The location and views made it the perfect choice for us. We spent so much of our time at the picnic table in the back yard along the waters edge eating, chatting and relaxing. The owner was super. Hope to come back again soon. We hope to make it back this summer for a week or two.
