About Jennifer Moore

Ken and Jennifer Moore are Canadians who love Hawaii and spend six months of the year on the Big Island. They have been married for 26 years and have two children in their early twenties. After purchasing their dream home, also a vacation rental vrbo #322776, they realized the demand for quality ocean view rental property and purchased Kona Onenalo. With their connections from living on the island both properties are well managed and exceptional vacation rentals offering all the comforts of home.

Jennifer Moore purchased this house in 2012

Why Jennifer Moore chose Kona Coast

The old adage: location, location, location is never more appropriate than here at Kona Onenalo. Built in 1979/1980, it would not be possible to duplicate this community of 12 homes right on the ocean in today's more restrictive environment. Each house has a direct ocean view and the breaking waves are only feet away. An ocean gate opens directly onto La'Aloa Bay, one of the premier snorkeling and scuba diving venues on the Kona coast. White Sands beach is 300 yards from our front door. The ocean front pool and spa offer panoramic vistas and sunsets. The property itself is meticulously maintained with lush tropical landscaping. And all of this is set in the middle of the greater Kailua-Kona area, a community filled with restaurants, shopping and many other resort amenities.

What makes this house unique

Kona Onenalo is a walled and gated community. All of the owners are mainland based and it is rare for more than 3 or 4 homes to be occupied at any given time. One of the things that we treasure about our place is that it is always peaceful, quiet and private. Alii Drive itself has a unique character. As it winds along the shoreline from the town of Kailua-Kona to the Keahou Resort 6 miles to the south, it passes several wonderful little sandy beaches as well as four favorite local surfing locations. Residents walk, jog and bike this 6 mile stretch of road at all times of the day. Kona Onenalo is the perfect combination of a private retreat set amid the hustle and bustle of a larger community.

Outstanding Property

Five of us spent three nights at the property. It was lovely, just as advertised. High quality finishes and well stocked with essentials. Great grounds with nice pool. Great view of water from the lanai. Would stay there again.

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

This home was beautiful, spacious and well equipped. It has a very central location near downtown Kailua and numerous local attractions. There was some street noise for those in the street-facing rooms, but that is the price one pays for being in such a great location on Alii Drive. Loved the view of "boogie beach" from the lanai and the kids had a great time in the warm pool on the complex. We had a great time, wish we could have stayed here longer.

Nice

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed this house very much. Kitchen was well supplied with dishes and necessary equipment for meal preparation. There were even some staples in the cabinet and the refrigerator. When we first walked in we were greeted with wide open windows across the whole back of the house. It is beautiful. Nice view to the nearby beach. We loved the White Sands beach which is right next door. We were surprised to discover that there wasn't air conditioning. I think generally that wouldn't be an issue from all the people we spoke to, but it happened to be quite warm the week we were there. Thankfully the house has lots of ceiling fans and stand up fans.

The landscaping around the property is beautiful. The gardener even had bunches of bananas at the gate that he picked from the trees on the property. You can't get a fresher banana than that.

There are masks, snorkels, flippers, water shoes, boogie boards, noodles, inflatables, chairs, beach towels, and laundry detergent in addition to all the things you would expect to be supplied in a home.

The pool was nice, but we didn't use it very much since there were so many fantastic beaches to visit.

We didn't use the bus but there is a bus stop directly across the street.

We went to the nearby Farmer's Market on Saturday morning. I highly recommend that. It is in the shopping center where the KTA food store is. That is where we bought most of our groceries. There is also an Urgent Care in that shopping center. We had to go there to get stitches for one of our girls who cut her toe. (BE SURE TO WEAR WATER SHOES!)

One downside is the traffic noise in the front two bedrooms. I would imagine that to be true for most of the places along the road. The noise didn't seem to keep our children awake since they were pretty exhausted from the days' activities. Also, the fans drown out some of the noise.

The electrical outlets in one of the bedrooms weren't working. We contacted them and their maintenance man came out right away. We chose to use an electrical extension cord into the room during the time we were there instead of having another contractor come in during our visit. I expect that it will be fixed quickly.

All in all, a great home away from home. We were there for 8 nights and were very sad to have to leave.

Best Deal on the Big Island

  • 5 of 5

We really appreciated the accommodations at Kona Onelando. I'm sure I spelled that wrong. The house/condo is inside a small gated complex right on the main drive that runs through Kona, oceanside. The complex is four miles south of Kona, and you have no need to be any closer.

There are 12 units in the complex, each free-standing and each practically identical. Every guest we met at the complex was friendly and fun, because we all knew we had scored one of the best places on the island. The view from the master bedroom through the sliding glass door and the balcony was a trip highlight. The kids loved the pool and I got some time in the hot tub. Everything works: the kitchen appliances the washer/dryer, the bathrooms. We did have a bit of slow pressure from the second head in the double-headed master shower, but we'll take first-world problems like that on an island.

You're a short walk to the best body surfing beach I've ever been to: pretty, with waves just strong enough to be exciting but not too strong for me and the boys. Just one mile the other way, we went to a beach to snorkel and have surfing lessons. The owners also provided us with a guide to things to do and we used it. We particularly appreciated the tip to go to Hapuna Beach, which is as pretty and fun as they said it would be. I use vacation rentals, I own two vacation rentals, and I suggest you stay here.

WOW!

What a great property and location! The place was just the ticket for a relaxing visit to the Big Island. Big enough for all of us. Completely appointed with the necessities. Great views and in a location convenient to everything we wanted to see and experience. We will definitely be back again.
