|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
This beautiful large new, two air-conditioned bedrooms/one-bath home is nestled on 5 private secluded acres in the foothills adjoining the El Yunque National Forest rain forest. We are one of very few properties offering the actual experience of living in the rain forest.
Our home is an easy drive to the International Airport (SJU), old San Juan, the nightlife of El Condado and Isla Verde, world-famous beaches, golf courses, nature reserves, impressive underwater reefs and small cays - and of course the unique scenic and hiking facilities of the National Forest.
The nearby coastal area is ideal for snorkeling, scuba diving, sailing, kayaking and deep sea fishing. All this is a short distance from the house while you enjoy sleeping in the privacy & tranquility of the cool night breezes in the rain forest.
Our rainforest home is fully equipped with washer and dryer as well as free wireless internet and Dish satellite TV.
For the nature lover who seeks privacy, tranquility and the lush environment of the tropical rainforest, you have arrived.
Our home has a unique 'open-air' design, so that no walls or unnecessary obstacles block the way of communication, natural light or rich, fresh air. There is a fully equipped and functional kitchen along with a movable island. Two spacious air-conditioned bedrooms are on the lower floor, one of which opens onto the veranda. The entire second floor is a wide open loft with two outdoor decks. The loft itself is fully furnished with four large futons that transform into beds.
Guests will enjoy peaceful surroundings, lush vegetation, siestas in the hammocks on the expansive porch, great back-yard barbecues, unexpected rain followed by radiant sun and blue skies, sounds of the forest (especially the song of the coqui, the tiny tree frogs that welcomes the rain singing in unison), a secluded walking labyrinth, and marvelous morning walks along our private road.
We designed and built the Rainforest Home over the course of several years completing it for guests in 2005. We add new features and upgrades of one sort or another every year and maintain the Rainforest Home with loving care. Most recently, in July of 2016, we added dependable free Dish satellite TV and unlimited internet services.
Walter & Nilda purchased this house in 2005
Deep in the rainforest on 5 private acres, lush and tropical vegetation, cool nights and warm days, and the intimacy of forest life - all within easy reach of 'civilization' when you need to get there.
Privacy, nature, forest, spacious and comfortable, we could go on ... (check the reviews).
My husband and I stayed at this incredible home for a week in May, and I am so glad I took the time to research rentals. Not only was the house perfect in every way, but there were tiny, dark condos for rent in other areas for lots more money - plus add-on charges. Here there was none of that. Pipo, the caretaker, let us know that it would be no problem at all if we called him for any reason. Everything was so ideal, that we didn't even need to call once....
The covered porch was where we spent our time when we weren't out exploring the mountains and beaches, small towns and snorkeling trips. We never even went into San Juan, because there was so much else nearby...
It rained most every day for a time in this lush area, and we watched the jungle grow daily from this porch. We shopped and cooked and slept, and I could not think of a better paradise to be in....
We had a great stay in this home. The location in the rain forest is neat, providing a different type of option for those on a 'Caribbean' vacation, yet we were still only 20 minutes or so from some really nice beaches, and 30 minutes from old San Juan (literally). The house was spotless, with all of the things that one needs when staying somewhere for a week: cooking utensils, beach towels, coolers, pots and pans, storage containers. The attention to detail in this regard is outstanding. We highly recommend this house, and if scheduling permits, will return!
The Rainforest House was a gem in the dense forests of El Yunque. The drive down the driveway to the house is just a preview of what is to come. The yard has a beautiful variety of flowers and plants, and the forest comes alive as soon as the sun disappears. We saw lizards, hummingbirds, bananaquits, and of course coquis. Those coquis are SO LOUD. They seem to love the front bedroom window and it sometimes made it hard to sleep. I had to go outside multiple times with a broom to remove them. When we were in PR, it was the hottest time of the year. Even in the rainforest, it was hot. 100% humidity and never below 80. So, at bedtime, the AC was def needed. We found the house comfortable and appreciated its organization and ample space.
For day trips.... one day we went to El Yunque to see the falls. Another day we went to Fajardo to bottom fish. Another day my son rode gokarts at Carabali. Every day we went to the public beach behind the Luquillo kisoks for a dip in the water. We cooked in every night, shopping at a local grocery store called Ralphs. I didn't really like the produce there, though. It wasn't fresh. They sell beer/wine there and have a good selection of meats. Pick up charcoal if you plan to grill. Our fav meal that we at out was in El Yunque at La Muralla (fried tacos and kebobs).
Glad we booked this property.
Walter met us near the restaurant “El Verde BBQ” and escorted us to the home. The first impression is the drive to the home - you know immediately you are in a very unique place. Past the gated entrance (very safe) you arrive and are greeted by wonderful rain-forest foliage and sounds, the house itself is very accommodating and spacious. We brought 4 kids ages 7,10,12,15 and two adults. The house is very well kept and provides all the necessary amenities (minus groceries), including a very much appreciated “unlimited” Wi-Fi (thank you Walter). It has two wonderful terraces/balconies, a great porch you can immerse yourself in the rain-forest and a great back yard you can further explore.
The location is great and about 20 min to the Yunque Rain-forest or 30-45 min anywhere in the N. East sector.
Our 4 night adventure included two trips to the Yunque, one to the Mina Falls and the other to the very top Mt. Britton tower. Get there early to avoid crowds, if you cannot find parking keep driving to the top and work your way down. Be patient and you will find parking, both are highly recommended. We didn’t care for the visitor’s center, you get a map and need to pay to get in it, otherwise just go up toward the Yunque and start your adventure. Download the Yunque app for a map :) .
Another trip included a trip to the Beaches of Liquillo, Piñones beach (near San Juan), and the Seven Seas Beach.
We purchased groceries and supplies at Walmart, also had dinner from the “El Verde BBQ”, it was delicious.
We also when to the Fajardo Lighthouse tour in “Las Cabezas de San Juan”, this included the “dry” bio luminescent Bio bay access with admission to the mangroves via trolley. Use http://www.paralanaturaleza.org/en/ to book your trip or you can call them directly and they usually have openings for the same day, ask for the Spanish or English tour.
Stay up late to hear the sounds of the 100’s of Coquis and creatures –it’s very neat to be in it. Enjoy your coffee with pan fresco (fresh bread) in the porch overlooking the back yard “rain-forest” and signing birds. Overall a great home to enjoy, great location and very well kept, we shall be back !!
We loved being surrounded by all the sounds of nature! You truly feel like you have gotten away from the stresses of the everyday world. My only hesitation is if you need cell reception. My husband could not return work calls from the house (which I didn't mind). Also, the wifi is very slow, again, ok by me, but my kids fussed. The house is kept up nicely and everything was provided. Walter and Nilda were so nice to lead us to the house and show us around. The activities in the area were great. Would definitely recommend this house! Miss Puerto Rico already
We had an amazing 4 nights in your rainforest home. Everything was perfect and we just loved your covered outside porch with the dining table and hammocks. It was just surreal to sit out each evening and listen to the rainforest come alive with so many sounds. I haven't slept that peaceful in so long. Kitchen and home were well stocked with everything we needed for our stay. The flowers and plants all around the property are so beautiful. We really enjoyed the location of your home, so close to so many things to do. We found our own little private waterfalls and swimming holes close by in El Yunque that my children just loved. We always felt safe, secure and completely comfortable. Thanks for sharing your amazing home and we hope to come back some day in the future with our extended family.
The best description of our Rainforest Home in the El Yunque Rainforest is in the many reviews by our valued guests.
We take great pride in our unique home on five secluded acres adjoining the border of El Yunque National Forest.
While in the home, you will enjoy the peaceful surroundings of lush vegetation, siestas in the hammock on the back porch, great back-yard barbecues, occasional visits by curious small & harmless lizards, unexpected rain followed by radiant sun and blue skies, marvelous morning walks along the private road, and the unique sounds of the forest. The song of the coquí will welcome you to the rain forest. They are the tiny tree frogs that, singing in unison, greet the rain.
