Hi! Thank you for visiting my listing. I acquired Pugwash Cottage in 2008 and have really enjoyed my semi-retirement completing extensive upgrading here and on my pride and joy..the boat of course! I personally welcome my guests and make sure they are comfortably settled in and oriented to the local scene! A great vacation starts with a special greeting and I look forward to meeting you at Pugwash Cottage!
P.s The name comes from the 60's cartoon character Captain Pugwash...A grand old character ideal for lovers of sail and sea!
BARRY SOLOMON purchased this cottage in 2008
The pictures tell it all! This area is as good as it gets and offers so much for all ages and interests. The Niagara Gorge is as spectacular as the Falls themselves and Niagara On The Lake is the prettiest town I have yet visited in Canada...period. Sailing and motorcycling are my good weather passions and this area is ideal for both!
You will have to look long and hard to find a prettier region and Pugwash Cottage gives you the ideal base from which to explore.
You will find Pugwash Cottage has an excellent location in all respects...two minutes walk to an excellent mini plaza with bank, convenience store, restaurant and a bakery / bistro that is 'simply the best'! A ten minute stroll puts you in town and another five has you looking across the lake to the unique skyline of Toronto. Everything you need is a pleasant walk away...so park the car, forget the traffic and just enjoy the change of pace that is Niagara on The Lake.!.
Very comfortable and a great experience. Will definitely recommend to friends! Really found our cruise on The Taya Two delightful!Hope to visit again in the Fall.
We are 2 couples who have twice enjoyed Pugwash Cottage. Barry greets you at his lovely, relaxed, fully outfitted and very clean home. At the end of a day of winery tastings, theatre and shopping we were so happy to return to our "home" for happy hour on the deck, bbq dinner and outdoor fire - just wonderful. Pugwash is on a sizable lot which feels very private.
The Sandtrap Pub is a short walk away where we had a pint and enjoyed their pub fare. The location of Pugwash is within blocks of theatre, dining and shopping.
This is a very charming spot that we hope to return to next year.
Many thanks to you, Barry.
A charming cottage, a gracious, thoughtful and generous host, and a location convenient to the center of NOTL and the bounty of the region.
Barry met us at the cottage and showed us around. We were more then impressed at all the additional little touches he provided to make the place feel like a home while we stayed. The kitchen was perfect to cook in along with the beautiful deck out back and the grill. The king size bed was wonderful. Our little Yorkie loved the yard and we were with in walking distance to a great coffee and desert place, plus you could easily walk down town. Highly recommend that you go to the Between The Lines and Big Head Wineries. They are great. He recommend the Pillar and Post Inn for dinner and we enjoyed our 24 Wedding Anniversary there. It was fabulous. The walking path along the river that goes all the way to the falls for perfect for long dog walks. We were able to get in around 5 miles a day of walking, along with stops and all the wineries. There are wonderful places to eat if you are not up to cooking. This place was adorable and in a perfect location. We already have family and friends who are interesting in renting it in 2017 and I am know we will be back. Thank you for a wonderful anniversary week. Stephanie, Peter, and Abbie
Barry came out to meet us as we pulled into the driveway. He took us through the whole house to show us where things were and said to make ourselves comfortable and call if we needed anything. The house was fantastic and in a perfect, quiet location. The bed was extremely comfortable and that was important to me since I had just had back surgery. The kitchen had everything you needed to cook. I would highly recommend Barry's home and should we return will gladly rent Pug Wash again.
Pug Wash was the perfect little house for our Girl's Wine Weekend. Barry and Pip are so warm and welcoming...I wish they could have stayed for the weekend with us! The house is immaculately clean and well-stocked with everything from towels to wine glasses to firewood. The house is perfectly decorated and very inviting. I could not be any happier with our experience!
The four of us stayed here while we went to the Shaw Festival. In previous years we've done B&Bs, but Pugwash was great! We could make our own schedule, enjoy a leisurely and light breakfast, walk down to the theatres and then visit afterwards in the comfortable living room or out on the deck. We grilled for dinner on our last night and enjoyed our morning coffee each day on the deck. The cottage is very comfortable and attractive, and we want to return next year!!
Location is everything!!!
All major attractions a short walk or drive away.
Niagara on the Lake has it all. The world class Shaw Festival is a key attraction and offers a great seasonal venue for most tastes. The town is great fun for shopping and enjoying the bar/bistros and restaurants. The Prince of Wales is a classic attraction with fine dining, comfortable elegant pub and relaxed outside tables to watch the world go by and catch the horse and carriage action! For avid pub lovers The Angel Inn just off Queen St is a gem!
New to the area are three superb micro breweries all offering a wonderful range of locally brewed delights.
The Niagara on The Lake Golf Club is the oldest in North America and has a wonderful club house restaurant and patio with superb views of the lake and Niagara River. It is open to all.
Over one hundred wineries are close by for your enjoyment and both motor coach tours and bicycle trips are close by.
Cycle rentals and e-bikes are just around the corner and the whole area is a treat for all levels of cyclists with the magnificent Niagara River Parkway a key scenic ride with Niagara Falls about 18 miles away. A must see of course.
My favourite local spot is The Willow Bakery and Bistro just around the corner from the cottage on Mary St. Wonderful place to enjoy a coffee and a fabulous bakery treat!
