This cabin was built from old tobacco barns and is authentic as they come while having all of the amenities of home!
You truly must see it to believe it. It is very secluded, with only one other resident on the road and sitting on almost 6 acres. No one lives on either side. It is a heavily wooded property.
There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms inside the cabin. A full kitchen and wonderful 'living area' are separated by a beautiful stone fireplace with a wood burner on one side and a wood stove on the other.
There is also a separate cabin that sleeps two and is akin to a studio apartment. There is not a bathroom in that cabin and it is heated using electric heat. I do NOT rent the little cabin from November through March as it will not stay warm enough during the cold winter months. There is an extra $75.00/night charge for using the little cabin. It will sleep two people and has two twin beds.
There is a lovely bubbling creek just a short walk through the woods, where you will find a wonderful deck and chairs to cozy up in with a good book. It's a great place to truly enjoy nature.
Shelton Vineyards is within 1/2 a mile 'as the crow flies', and a 5 minute's drive from the cabin. It is one of the largest vineyards in the state and has a wonderful restaurant on site. Tours and wine tastings are available as well.
There are many other vineyards located in the 'Yadkin Valley' and information is readily available online. Go to Yadkin Valley Wine Trail (online),to find anything you could possibly need to know about wine in NC.
The final stretch of road (approx 1/4 mile), leading to the cabin is bumpy but certainly passable, even in rainy weather. This property is located in a heavily wooded area. You are likely to see animals/rodents/insects unique to a heavily wooded area. Those who have a love of the outdoors and all that comes with it are a perfect fit! This is a beautiful part of the NC foothills, surrounded by vineyards and farms. I tell folks it's at the very top of the foothills as you can easily see mountain peaks all around.
All part of the rustic/back to nature features of this charming cabin!

I am a business owner of a recycling company in the Piedmont section of the state. I work hard and when I need a break, I head north to Dobson. I can't wait for others to enjoy the cabin as much as I have, since purchasing it in 2006.
Susan Newman purchased this cabin in 2006
I describe the cabin as being at the 'top' of the foothills. You can see mountain ranges all around, but it is still very convenient from the Piedmont area to get to. Less than 2 hours. The first time I saw the cabin I knew I had to have it. It's authentic, secluded, and a corner of the property borders Shelton Vineyards property. There are vineyards all around and I enjoy visiting them and participating in many of the special events that are offered year 'round.
When I'm at the cabin all of the weight of the world disappears. It is peaceful and serene. I call the cabin my 'slice of heaven'. The creek is a short walk down a well marked path through the woods. I have built a deck by the creek and chairs are available to rest in while listening to the creek and reading a good book. I have provided the comforts of home that many rental properties do not provide. A well stocked kitchen with above average supplies. Things I would have in my kitchen at home. I want my guests to be comfortable. Same goes with furniture. Bedding includes all cotton sheets. Nice towels, etc...You don't have to "bring your own". And you don't have to make your beds up. Ready for you when you get here!
We had a very peaceful 4 nights in the cabin! Susan was very responsive with details of our trip and answered all of my questions. The property offers total privacy. We didn't see a soul the entire time. There's a long, corn lined track up to the cabin which was great for walking our pup each day. He cabin is surrounded by woods and a very short hike in the back to a small flowing creek. Butterflies were everywhere! We LOVED sitting on the porch in the rockers and enjoyed a great rain fall - we were under the safety of a tin roof (perfect for the rain). The central air was great for the hot days and the deletion of DVDs was amazing! Almost anything you can think of was included in the collection. We had a wonderful dinner at the nearby Harvest Grill (avg $30 entrees but very good food and service) and great place to take a walk after dinner (vineyard, pond, trails, bridges). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. If you like a rustic feel and want total privacy this is the place for you.
LOVED our stay - girlfriends weekend. Cabin is literally that....a cabin from log ago - very authentic, great location, yet tucked far away! We went to 3 wineries and restaurants, hiked miles at Pilot Mountain, chilled on the back porch and even had a fire in the fire pit. We will be back!!
My family and I could not have dreamed up this serene fairytale vacation! The owner was attentive to every detail, we cooked and enjoyed meals together, we ventured out to go hiking and also visited one of the many vineyards just around the corner! The cabin was spacious enough for our party of seven and provided so much outdoor living space to enjoy. The beds were comfortable and the baths were clean and well-appointed. If you want to just relax and unwind this cabin in the woods is the place, we felt like we walked into a storybook, the cabin is rich in history and the decor makes you think of times past.
Susan the owner and Howard the caretaker were there when we needed them and we so appreciate their hospitality!
We visit this area often following musical events along the Crooked Road as its called. We have been visiting the area for the last ten years,we had stayed in a very secluded B&B which had one room in a spectacular setting less than ten miles from this cabin in Dobson North Carolina.Unfortunately the owners decided they could no longer offer the place to us,we were devastated, but searching diligently we found Susans cabin it sounded like something we would be interested in,but often times places are misrepresented. We live secluded in Ohio and want something comparable to what we were leaving,we spoke with Susan and she assured us her place would meet our requirements.Well she was right the cabin is rustic ,off the beaten path, quiet and as secluded and private as anyone could hope for.The cabin was decorated beautifully, scrupulously clean and had all modern day amenities at your disposal. The countryside is beautiful . The town of Dobson was small and had real southern charm,be sure to visit The Depot Restaurant it is absolutely a spectacular experience and the food and surrounding grounds are amazing. We went there at the suggestion of the cabins owner spot on Susan! The wineries,Mabry Mill Blue Ridge Parkway ,this place is close to them all. I highly recommend this as a secluded retreat. The couple that went with us thouroughly enjoyed their stay as did we,both of us will return in the future. Tony,Mary,Richfield Ohio,Todd,Sherrie,Flatwoods Kentucky.
I and 3 girlfriends loved our stay in this cabin! We came to the area for Shelton's Running the Vines 10k and this cabin was perfect! We were minutes from Shelton Vineyards, which made it very convenient to park at the finish line and take the shuttle to the start. We ate lunch at the Harvest Grill then spent the afternoon on a private wine tour through Frog Holler Wine Tours. Anytime I search for a cabin I want isolation and quietness. This cabin provided all that with the added benefit of still being convenient to wineries and restaurants. We loved the rustic charm and homey touches and decorations of this house. Every time I looked around I saw something else that caught my eye. My favorite part was the covered back porch! Even though we were out and about most of the time, I would have been content with this back porch, a glass of wine, and a good book. Speaking of books, Susan has an extensive collection of books and DVD's, if you're looking for entertainment around the house. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well-stocked with dishes, pots, pans, etc. Susan provided excellent customer service and provided very detailed directions to the cabin as the last few turns were off the beaten path. I would love to stay at this property again and would recommend it to anyone wanting a quiet Yadkin Valley getaway. It is perfect for couples or a girls' weekend away!
I had a wonderful weekend getaway at this charming cabin. It was everything I wanted for a peaceful retreat. It’s very secluded but it was easy to find with Susan’s directions. The cabin is very comfortable and clean. I didn’t see a trace of pet hair. The living room furniture is soft and cozy - perfect for curling up with a book or a movie. And there is a large DVD collection. It rained my first night there and I loved it. I enjoyed relaxing by the fire and listening to the sound of the rain hitting the metal roof. I met Mr. Akers, the caretaker, while I was out walking the next day and he assured me that he would be available if I needed anything. Booking was super easy, and Susan was great. She kept in touch by email, providing detailed directions and helpful information about the area. And she had a great sense of humor when I broke one of her wine glasses! I hope to visit again very soon.
Mt. Airy ('Mayberry' for those Andy Griffith fans), Many vineyards are close by, including Shelton Vineyards which is a 'stone's throw' away and one of the largest vineyards in the state. The Blue Ridge Parkway is 15 minutes north on Hwy 77 as well. Stone Mountain and Pilot Mountain are nearby for those interesting in hiking or rock climbing, and the Blue Ridge Parkway is about a 20 minute drive up I77, which is about 8 minutes from the cabin, accessible at the Fancy Gap exit. There are several beautiful rivers in the area, including the Mitchell River and Ararat River. The New River is also not too far away, and offers tubing and canoeing opportunities in the Sparta area. All of these rivers offer exciting opportunities for all types of fishermen!

If renters need the little cabin, which sleeps 2 (when I say the cabins sleep "8", the large cabin sleeps 6 and the small cabin, with two twins sleeps an additional 2), there is an additional $75.00/night charge.
