This cabin was built from old tobacco barns and is authentic as they come while having all of the amenities of home!
You truly must see it to believe it. It is very secluded, with only one other resident on the road and sitting on almost 6 acres. No one lives on either side. It is a heavily wooded property.
There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms inside the cabin. A full kitchen and wonderful 'living area' are separated by a beautiful stone fireplace with a wood burner on one side and a wood stove on the other.
There is also a separate cabin that sleeps two and is akin to a studio apartment. There is not a bathroom in that cabin and it is heated using electric heat. I do NOT rent the little cabin from November through March as it will not stay warm enough during the cold winter months. There is an extra $75.00/night charge for using the little cabin. It will sleep two people and has two twin beds.
There is a lovely bubbling creek just a short walk through the woods, where you will find a wonderful deck and chairs to cozy up in with a good book. It's a great place to truly enjoy nature.
Shelton Vineyards is within 1/2 a mile 'as the crow flies', and a 5 minute's drive from the cabin. It is one of the largest vineyards in the state and has a wonderful restaurant on site. Tours and wine tastings are available as well.
There are many other vineyards located in the 'Yadkin Valley' and information is readily available online. Go to Yadkin Valley Wine Trail (online),to find anything you could possibly need to know about wine in NC.
The final stretch of road (approx 1/4 mile), leading to the cabin is bumpy but certainly passable, even in rainy weather. This property is located in a heavily wooded area. You are likely to see animals/rodents/insects unique to a heavily wooded area. Those who have a love of the outdoors and all that comes with it are a perfect fit! This is a beautiful part of the NC foothills, surrounded by vineyards and farms. I tell folks it's at the very top of the foothills as you can easily see mountain peaks all around.
All part of the rustic/back to nature features of this charming cabin!

I am a business owner of a recycling company in the Piedmont section of the state. I work hard and when I need a break, I head north to Dobson. I can't wait for others to enjoy the cabin as much as I have, since purchasing it in 2006.
Susan Newman purchased this cabin in 2006
I describe the cabin as being at the 'top' of the foothills. You can see mountain ranges all around, but it is still very convenient from the Piedmont area to get to. Less than 2 hours. The first time I saw the cabin I knew I had to have it. It's authentic, secluded, and a corner of the property borders Shelton Vineyards property. There are vineyards all around and I enjoy visiting them and participating in many of the special events that are offered year 'round.
When I'm at the cabin all of the weight of the world disappears. It is peaceful and serene. I call the cabin my 'slice of heaven'. The creek is a short walk down a well marked path through the woods. I have built a deck by the creek and chairs are available to rest in while listening to the creek and reading a good book. I have provided the comforts of home that many rental properties do not provide. A well stocked kitchen with above average supplies. Things I would have in my kitchen at home. I want my guests to be comfortable. Same goes with furniture. Bedding includes all cotton sheets. Nice towels, etc...You don't have to "bring your own". And you don't have to make your beds up. Ready for you when you get here!
I forgot to add that we so impressed with the overall feel of the cabin. It was decorated so nicely and made us feel right at home. The CD collection was awesome (loved the Monkeys album) and the DVD collection had everything you could want. When we reserved, my wife had picked it out and I was thinking it was a little remote and we would be bored, but it was great and everyone loved it! I can't say enough good things about it. Wonderful Thanksgiving!
We loved the cabin. We came up from Florida and met our three daughters, one who is going to school in NC, for Thanksgiving. The cabin was very nice and comfortable and the kitchen was up to the task of preparing the dinner. Everyone loved it.
Even though it was starting to get pretty cool, it was still nice going down to the creek and sitting on the deck. We also went out and hiked Pilot Mountain and Hanging Rock and visited Mt. Airey which is the model for Mayberry and the Andy Griffith show (also his home town). Also did the Shelton Winery which was very nice and very close by.
A great experience!
Great cabin. The kitchen could use a little "updating ". But overall a great place. Yes I would go back again!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the cabin. We ended up having 4 adults and 1 child with us and it was the perfect size. We spent a lot of time going on "nature walks" with our little girl and simply relaxing on the porch with hot chocolate or coffee. We enjoyed making fires in the fireplace and even made s'mores one night. We had a small early Thanksgiving meal and the kitchen was very accommodating. We loved watching movies nightly. There was a great collection of movies. The beds were comfortable and the shower were hot. I do not have one negative thing to say about our experience. Susan was also very available throughout the booking process. We can't wait to come back and were very sad to leave. If you want some relaxation time in the midst of the woods, this is the place for you!
We just enjoyed our stay here... The cabin was exactly what we wanted and the area is so very nice. The weather couldn't have been nicer for this visit, the leaves were falling with cool mornings and sunny afternoons. Everything about the trip to this area of North Carolina and this rustic cabin was truly wonderful. Thank you to the owner for making sure our accommodations were so very comfortable. We will definitely be back.
I can't say enough good things about this cabin! Plenty roomy for many people but definitely authentic and comfy cozy! Whether you are on the front or back porches, on the deck by the creek or hanging out inside, you are guaranteed to feel at home and relaxed! Super secluded spot that is hard to beat and the owner is super sweet and accommodating! Will definitely be staying here again!
Mt. Airy ('Mayberry' for those Andy Griffith fans), Many vineyards are close by, including Shelton Vineyards which is a 'stone's throw' away and one of the largest vineyards in the state. The Blue Ridge Parkway is 15 minutes north on Hwy 77 as well. Stone Mountain and Pilot Mountain are nearby for those interesting in hiking or rock climbing, and the Blue Ridge Parkway is about a 20 minute drive up I77, which is about 8 minutes from the cabin, accessible at the Fancy Gap exit. There are several beautiful rivers in the area, including the Mitchell River and Ararat River. The New River is also not too far away, and offers tubing and canoeing opportunities in the Sparta area. All of these rivers offer exciting opportunities for all types of fishermen!

If renters need the little cabin, which sleeps 2 (when I say the cabins sleep "8", the large cabin sleeps 6 and the small cabin, with two twins sleeps an additional 2), there is an additional $75.00/night charge.
