This cabin was built from old tobacco barns and is authentic as they come while having all of the amenities of home!
You truly must see it to believe it. It is very secluded, with only one other resident on the road and sitting on almost 6 acres. No one lives on either side. It is a heavily wooded property.
There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms inside the cabin. A full kitchen and wonderful 'living area' are separated by a beautiful stone fireplace with a wood burner on one side and a wood stove on the other.
There is also a separate cabin that sleeps two and is akin to a studio apartment. There is not a bathroom in that cabin and it is heated using electric heat. I do NOT rent the little cabin from November through March as it will not stay warm enough during the cold winter months. There is an extra $75.00/night charge for using the little cabin. It will sleep two people and has two twin beds.
There is a lovely bubbling creek just a short walk through the woods, where you will find a wonderful deck and chairs to cozy up in with a good book. It's a great place to truly enjoy nature.
Shelton Vineyards is within 1/2 a mile 'as the crow flies', and a 5 minute's drive from the cabin. It is one of the largest vineyards in the state and has a wonderful restaurant on site. Tours and wine tastings are available as well.
There are many other vineyards located in the 'Yadkin Valley' and information is readily available online. Go to Yadkin Valley Wine Trail (online),to find anything you could possibly need to know about wine in NC.
The final stretch of road (approx 1/4 mile), leading to the cabin is bumpy but certainly passable, even in rainy weather. This property is located in a heavily wooded area. You are likely to see animals/rodents/insects unique to a heavily wooded area. Those who have a love of the outdoors and all that comes with it are a perfect fit! This is a beautiful part of the NC foothills, surrounded by vineyards and farms. I tell folks it's at the very top of the foothills as you can easily see mountain peaks all around.
All part of the rustic/back to nature features of this charming cabin!

I am a business owner of a recycling company in the Piedmont section of the state. I work hard and when I need a break, I head north to Dobson. I can't wait for others to enjoy the cabin as much as I have, since purchasing it in 2006.
Susan Newman purchased this cabin in 2006
I describe the cabin as being at the 'top' of the foothills. You can see mountain ranges all around, but it is still very convenient from the Piedmont area to get to. Less than 2 hours. The first time I saw the cabin I knew I had to have it. It's authentic, secluded, and a corner of the property borders Shelton Vineyards property. There are vineyards all around and I enjoy visiting them and participating in many of the special events that are offered year 'round.
When I'm at the cabin all of the weight of the world disappears. It is peaceful and serene. I call the cabin my 'slice of heaven'. The creek is a short walk down a well marked path through the woods. I have built a deck by the creek and chairs are available to rest in while listening to the creek and reading a good book. I have provided the comforts of home that many rental properties do not provide. A well stocked kitchen with above average supplies. Things I would have in my kitchen at home. I want my guests to be comfortable. Same goes with furniture. Bedding includes all cotton sheets. Nice towels, etc...You don't have to "bring your own". And you don't have to make your beds up. Ready for you when you get here!
The peace and serenity surrounding this lovely cabin is accented by it's unique charm reminiscent of days when happiness was found in the simple things of life. Leave your stressors at the dirt path and go on into a special experience of a little piece of heaven! We loved everything about the cabin and surrounding woods, especially the peacefulness of the brook under the star lit sky.
My husband and I had a WONDERFUL weekend here. What a serene, perfect little getaway, and so convenient to the great vineyards in the area. The cabin is so sweet inside, the porch and fireplace of perfect to relax with, and the swing by the driveway to watch the sunset was amazing. We were saying that we'd love to get back once a quarter!
Susan thank you for a relaxing stay in your lovely cabin! From coffee on the back porch, deer seen during a morning walk and the creek for pup Wilma to frolick in, our weekend was simply perfect. The cabin is cozy yet had all of the amenities we needed with a close proximity to the vineyards we love. Seems we have found a new get away for our next weekend escape! Thanks again! Stephanie, Bill and Wilma from Wilmington NC
What a great place to just unwind. I was so excited to find this gem for our New Years weekend. Thank you Susan for talking to me about the area we were able to enjoy My Airy and The Depot restaurant. We also had a great meal at Putters which was just down the street. The very best part of our trip was all the neat things in this cabin, as memories from our childhood came to mind it brought laughter, tears and joy that we can share for years to come. We have a very busy life so we're hoping to come back and enjoy The Cabin in the spring. Thanks again Jesse and Rose, Cornelius NC
An amazing cabin with beautiful ol time feel. My family and I stayed the week following Christmas and actually cooked our Christmas dinner in the cabin. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to feed an army. We spent every evening nestled on the very comfortable furniture listening to the fire crackling away. We were able to enjoy the creek deck sparingly due to the cold but had a great time drinking coffee listening to the kids play. This cabin was a wonderful find and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to relax and unwind with nature.
I forgot to add that we so impressed with the overall feel of the cabin. It was decorated so nicely and made us feel right at home. The CD collection was awesome (loved the Monkeys album) and the DVD collection had everything you could want. When we reserved, my wife had picked it out and I was thinking it was a little remote and we would be bored, but it was great and everyone loved it! I can't say enough good things about it. Wonderful Thanksgiving!
Mt. Airy ('Mayberry' for those Andy Griffith fans), Many vineyards are close by, including Shelton Vineyards which is a 'stone's throw' away and one of the largest vineyards in the state. The Blue Ridge Parkway is 15 minutes north on Hwy 77 as well. Stone Mountain and Pilot Mountain are nearby for those interesting in hiking or rock climbing, and the Blue Ridge Parkway is about a 20 minute drive up I77, which is about 8 minutes from the cabin, accessible at the Fancy Gap exit. There are several beautiful rivers in the area, including the Mitchell River and Ararat River. The New River is also not too far away, and offers tubing and canoeing opportunities in the Sparta area. All of these rivers offer exciting opportunities for all types of fishermen!

If renters need the little cabin, which sleeps 2 (when I say the cabins sleep "8", the large cabin sleeps 6 and the small cabin, with two twins sleeps an additional 2), there is an additional $75.00/night charge.
