My late husband and I fell in love with the area while visiting friends who owned weekend houses there and, in 1980, we had the shell of the house built. With the help of wonderful friends, we worked weekends building out the interior. The project took about a year to complete and I have so many great memories of those times. The chalet became our escape from the hectic weekly pace in Houston. We put heart and soul into building out the chalet! When my husband passed away in 1993, the only way I could rationalize keeping the property was to rent it out to vacationers. I've had the good fortune of meeting so many wonderful people who have rented from me since that time and look forward to being blessed with many more!
Owner purchased this Chalet in 1980
Why Owner chose Polk County
Why this property? BECAUSE it provides THE most peaceful and relaxing get-away anyone would want! BECAUSE the grounds and property are very well maintained and the house is kept sparkling clean! The house has had new Laminate flooring installed, was freshly painted, and furniture updated in Living room and Dining areas in 2014. BECAUSE we provide everything but your clothes, your food and libations! No need to pack up a bunch of essentials, linens and towels because they will be waiting right there for your arrival! BECAUSE we are so thankful for our renters and want to ensure their stay is the most wonderful experience possible! BECAUSE our prices are very reasonable for everything we provide! SO, pack your suitcase, bring your family, even the four-legged members and prepare to ENJOY!

A lakeside chalet that’s worth every penny!
This charming cottage makes “roughing it” easy. You’ll be nestled away in a quiet corner of a lake brimming with fish, the occasional breeze blowing cool air across the water.
Turtles take turns sunning on logs and the neighbors’ storm-ravaged pier throughout the day. The floating dock is the perfect place to take in everything nature has to offer, and maybe crack open a cold beverage to wash down something from the stationary charcoal grill by the porch.
It can get chilly at night, so scoop up some small sticks for kindling during the day and store them for one of the THREE places you can enjoy a fire: the lakeside chimnea with swinging bench, the indoor fireplace, or the fire pit by the wood pile. Don’t be alarmed when the motion-sensing porch light leaves you cooking your marshmallows with just the fire and moonlight to guide you.
If you came to stay glued to social media and the outside world, this is not the place for you. The cell service is spotty at best, but if you feel compelled to post pics of this wonderful getaway, the wi-fi works just fine.
If you’re like us, you’ll barely turn on the tv, but there are just enough channels to update you on the news of the day. And in the loft, you’ll be treated to some retro classics on VHS, as well as a bevy of hard and paperback books to pass the idle hours. If you’d just rather be outdoors, you can take the mountain bike to the nearby park, or break out the fishing pole for some “reel” relaxation. There’s even a bocce set for lawn games at sundown.
Patricia has stocked the small but sufficient kitchen with every conceivable cooking necessity, and there are plenty of left-behind spices, coffees and sweeteners. You’ll just need to grab groceries on the way in, and be sure to Google store locations before arrival. The nearest grocery is in Livingston, a 15-minute drive, so make a list if you decide to check in first.
Patricia is very gracious host, and quick to respond should you have a question or concern. The very few imperfections add to the charm of this quaint little chalet, and you won’t regret taking a chance on this Cozy Slice of Heaven.
Cozy as the name suggests! Relaxing time for us.
Spent our time being quiet and enjoying the scenery. Watching and listening to the wildlife all around. Did some fishing but mostly sitting. Weather was perfect with cool dry mornings and warm afternoons. Property is clean and well kept. Owner maintained contact with us to ensure all was well! We would really like to come back in the fall and spend another week! Can't wait.
Beautiful lake area and enjoyed being right by water with floating dock. Greeted with chocolates. We spent Easter weekend with our son and his wife and infant and cooked all of our meals here. Chalet was perfect size. Kitchen was overstuffed with 'stuff'. Pantry full of more stuff, so much so that we can't imagine how some of the things would be used. Had to empty oven of pots and pans just to use it, then no where to put them while trying to prepare/cook a meal. One of the electric burners did not work. Inside of home could use a mid to deep cleaning. Surface is clean, but dust on furnishings and decorations (not just a month's worth of dust). Top of refrigerator, filled with more stuff, had signs of bugs. Upstairs queen bed, made bearable by way of board under very worn mattress on top of box springs.
Enjoyed outside fire pit with wood we brought from home. Quiet evening. Wood decking on floating deck a bit concerning, as well as deck on boat dock even more concerning. I wouldn't walk out on it; however, my son and husband did. Security cameras all around outside of house.
I would label this home as quiet, but not charming or romantic. The pictures make the inside look so much better than it really is and we were disappointed.
Would not rent again.
Quite little lodge on the lake.
Clean, cosy and if the weather had cooperated it would have been almost perfect. Thanks to the Dvd collection we keep ourselves entertained and had a wonderful anniversary.
Thank you Patricia for you hospitality!
Perfect place to relax...
This place was PERFECT!!! My husband, daughter and I wanted a quite place that we could go after Christmas to relax and get away from all the hustle and bustle of the holidays. We couldn't have picked a better place or location. Patricia was a gracious host even though we arrived an hour early. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything that we needed for our stay and the house was comfortable and inviting. It was really cold while we were there, but we had plenty of fire wood to keep us warm. We brought our dogs with us and the yard is completely fenced, so we didn't have to worry about them getting out. I would recommend this place and Patricia!!! Thanks again for everything =
Kristin, I have been out of the Country until last night and am just now seeing your wonderful review. Thank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to write it. It truly pleases me to know how much you and your family enjoyed your stay. I hope you will come back soon!
Wishing you all the best in 2018 and thank you again for choosing my little chalet for your family get away! Warmest regards, Patricia
It is really a piece of Heaven!!!!
There are no words to describe the degree of rest and tranquility that this place offers. It is perfect to escape from routine and enjoy the most important moments in life that are the family, our pets and nature. During the entire stay we felt a level of belonging to this place, perhaps because Mrs. Vackar is a very kind person. She was always attentive to any need and available at all times in case we needed something. We never had to call her because everything is there. We were greeted with a beautiful greeting card, chocolate cookies and chocolates .... yummy !!!
She had the delicacy to leave ready for us firewood in the chimneys and firepit. Not forgetting to mention the Christmas decoration that made this place more welcoming. Even small toys put in the entrance for my daughter to play when we arrived.
Every day we went out in the boat and went around the lake. We saw beautiful birds, turtles and even an alligator that my daughter named "Coco".
We were there 5 days and we used every place of this property. We enjoyed beautiful sunrises and breakfast on the deck, sunsets on the floating deck, starry nights at the fire pit with marshmallows. Even my dogs were happy.
The last day my 5 year old daughter said goodbye to this place crying because she did not want to leave.
This place is perfect for people who seek tranquility, who like rustic things and who love nature and life. Although for those who can not live without television or internet there is also.
We hope to return very soon.
Dear Lilia, I cannot thank you enough for your kind words and for taking the time out of your very busy schedule to write this wonderful review. It was my pleasure working with you on the reservation and having you, your hubby, your little one and two furry family members stay at my little chalet. I look forward to having you come back any time! Blessings and a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!
