Bob retired as a forestry professor from Auburn University in 2001 and he and Nancy immediately started their western adventure in Philipsburg. Originally form South Carolina, the couple has lived in Georgia, New York, Oklahoma as well as Alabama. True southerners, but with a spirit of wander and have never found a place or people they did not love. They have two sons with wonderful families (7 grandchildren) who live in the South, but love to visit MT. Bob and Nancy travel South often in their RV to spend quality time with their families. Bob is an avid hunter and fisherman and Nancy is right there with him on every excursion. Nancy brings sanity to the couple and lovingly makes their home the most comfortable place to be as you will experience when you visit.
Bob and Nancy Lanford purchased this house in 2002
Having spent many years hunting in CO, the West was not completely new to Bob and Nancy. When Philipsburg was recommended by a friend, it reminded them of wonderful experiences in CO. After moving early in 2002, the couple fell in love with the people, community and everything else they found. They opened a bed and breakfast and ran it during the summer of 2002 but found not enough traffic to support an all year business. When the idea to put their home up for a vacation rental surfaced in 2009, it seemed like a great idea because of the bed and breakfast experience.
The name 'Cozy Home' is a perfect description of this little home that has evolved from a nineteenth century mining cabin in a very warm and comfortable place to take in the charm of Philipsburg. Expect to have a restful retreat from all the exciting activities available. While Philipsburg dining is superb, it is nice to have a fully functioning kitchen with an outside grill to prepare your own meals just the way you want them. While close to town, you are far enough away to have peace and quiet if that is your choosing. Staying at the Cozy Home in Philipsburg will be an unforgettable experience.
Thank you for providing outstanding accommodations for a K9CM wounded veteran. Great experience for all involved. Thank you for providing such a cozy stay in Philipsburg, MT.
The house was cozy. Tidy. Fully stocked with dishes, utensils and pots & pans (maybe a thermometer for the oven would be nice). It is everything it says it is. The towels were cozy and very white!
Bob and Nancy, Thank you for a wonderful weekend in your cozy home. We had a fantastic time with our friends from Butte and were so comfortable in your well-stocked, cute home. Thank you also for allowing our dog to stay, that made the trip possible for us and she felt right at home. We skied Discovery 2 days, skated in Philipsburg both nights and visited Fairmont Hot Springs on our way back home. Great weekend, hope to do it again sometime. Thanks again!
My family stayed at this place for a week and a half. It was small and cozy but spacious. The primary room is a kitchen and living room all in one with space for a small dining table. The bedrooms were the right size for a VRBO. There's a porch/deck and plenty of parking. It's just what we needed for a ski vacation - back and forth to Disco - and a quick trip to Pburg. It's a bit of a walk ( .5 miles) to town in the winter but I could see easily making the trek regularly in the summer months.
Bob welcomed us at his front door as soon as we arrived. We instantly fell in love with this place. I could tell that Bob and Nancy made sure that their guest are comfortable. This home was perfect for just the two of us and our dog. It was clean and stocked with everything you ever needed on a vacation. Lots of room and very quiet. My favorite part of the house was the porch. Love the porch! Sat out watching the full moon or on the swing to watch the sun set. Perfect!
It is an easy walk to town. We visited Granite Ghost town and Garnet Ghost town which is about an hour drive towards Missoula. Gem mountain is a great place to get your hands dirty in finding as many sapphires you can. We didn't eat out much because I am food sensitive but what my friends tell me, Silver Mill is to die for. Doe Brothers Ice Cream...OMG! Hamilton has some great mountain biking trails. We didn't have enough time to venture trails in Philipsburg. There is so much to do in this small town. We will definitely be returning.
Thank you again Bob and Nancy for inviting us in your home.
Three of my friends and I just wanted to get away from work, dishes, laundry, and our 'stuff'; so we rented this little cottage for a couple nights. We felt at home the moment we walked in. It was clean, comfortable, and practically furnished and supplied.
The view was great, and the air fresh and inviting. We looked the town over, drove around to see all the old houses, and let our imaginations run. We laughed because some of the things in the antique stores were still in use in our own homes.
When the air got cool at night, we turned on the stove and ate our candy from the Sweet Palace. We wrapped up in blankets, sat on the porch, watched the moon come up and listened to the dog barking in the distance.
The only problem we had was...... we didn't want to go home. So, we called Bob and Nancy and asked if we could stay another night. They laughed and said 'Yes.' (We had to bribe our husbands by promising them fudge from the candy store)
I've been doing rentals for almost 15 years, and I've met a lot of owners. These people were the easiest to work with that I've met. We will be going back when we can get away again. Thanks Bob and Nancy.
