Our extended family stayed at this lovely Maine home last summer for two weeks, and we liked it so much that as we drove home we arranged to rent it again next summer. We rented both the house and the cottage (which was perfect for guests visiting us for a day or two.) Both were very clean, comfortable, and nicely appointed. The house has everything you need; kitchen supplies, beach and bath towels, bikes, you name it.
Claudia was a great landlord. She was easy to reach, pleasant to talk to, and addressed all our questions and concerns in a timely manner. We were a little surprised by the hand held shower in the upstairs bathroom, but its large size was very comfortable and the downstairs bathroom was quite nice and modern. When the back door lock broke during our stay, Claudia took care of it immediately even though she was away on her own vacation.
Our favorite thing about the house was the front porch. The view is spectacular! We loved how easy it was to walk across the street, down the short dirt road to the beach, and put in our kayaks or just play with the kids. The location was perfect for us. We also loved being on the “quiet side” and so close to the town of Southwest Harbor.
We would highly recommend this quintessential Maine home!
I stayed here for one week at the beginning of October (the perfect time to see all the beautiful fall leaves) and cannot say enough pleasant things about the house, the owner of the house, and the surrounding area. In all, the house held me, my wife, another couple and their toddler and a teenager quite comfortably. The kitchen was absolutely fantastic--plenty of room, beautifully appointed and far more supplies, pots and pans than any of us were expecting. And the wifi (which was incredibly fast) and washer and dryer were also very nice little bonuses that we enjoyed throughout the week. But the overall consensus seemed to be that the best part of all about the house was the gorgeous view. What better way to wake up every morning than by looking out of one's window and taking in the sea and mountains all in one view. Absolutely breathtaking!
The owner, Claudia, was more than helpful and kind in the process leading up to renting the house, but also gave us lots of recommendations and help once we arrived there. All of her recommendations of things to do in South West Harbor and the surrounding area were spot on and ended up being some of our favorite things that we did on the trip. The house itself is also quite centrally located, which proved perfect for day trips to Southwest Harbor, Seal Harbor, Acadia National Park and the surrounding area, not to mention all of the restaurants, lobster pounds, bakeries, book shops and hiking trails all within a bike ride or 5 minute drive.
Would highly recommend this lovely house to anyone and will definitely keep this little gem in mind the next time we return to Maine!
My family of five spent a week in this rental home and would highly recommend it to others visiting Mount Desert Island. We liked being on the quieter side of the island and yet only a short drive to Bar Harbor and all the highlights of Acadia National Park; we feel we got the best of both worlds. The owner was easy to reach and a pleasure to work with throughout the rental process, and her home is well-maintained, clean, and comfortable.
I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this beautiful home and its thoughtful owner.
We arrived at the height of the bustling tourist season to a perfectly-appointed house in a serene and quiet location. The house is tidy and charming. The attention to detail in the furnishings and decor is very apparent. The house is furnished in what I would consider Maine cottage style. Just beautiful.
Traveling with our seven children, I was appreciative of the slipcovers which were provided for optional use on the white upholstered furniture. They gave me great peace of mind. The beds were extremely comfortable, and the trundle bed in the third bedroom was a great novelty for our children.
We used the kitchen extensively, and it was thoroughly appointed with everything needed, including a lobster pot.
Special pluses included the wi-fi internet connection and the washer and dryer (much needed after a morning of tide-pooling). The large yard was great for kids—plenty of room to throw a football around and run off some energy.
The neighborhood is lovely, and the view is to die for. A direct view from the master bedroom of the ocean. Nearby are shops and lobster pounds on the "quiet side" of the island. We found the location perfect—away from the hustle of the Bar Harbor side of the island, but still near some very nice shops and restaurants (with Bar Harbor just a short drive away).
Last, but definitely not least, Claudia, the owner, was extremely responsive and answered our every question, including touristy questions about the island. She was great about providing her contact information and that of her caretaker's in the event that anything came up while we were there. (Nothing did.) Although I've never met Claudia personally (we missed crossing paths by just an hour or so), she is on my list of people to meet. I feel like she's a true friend after all her thoughtful correspondence and after being the beneficiaries of her thoughtful touches, such as the fresh bouquet of wildflowers placed in the kitchen for our arrival.
I recommend this home highly. It is charming, and lovely. If we return to Acadia someday, this is absolutely where we will stay again. It is perfect in every regard.
